Just came across this tutorial and loved it!! My question is will this work for outdoor setting I’m doing my son’s birthday and wanted to do a tunnel at the entrance con my patio and I was wondering if they might be blown away by the wind or the water weight will be enough? Thanks for you r awesome tutorial!
For outdoors you would prob want to use some baseplates for better stability and wind resistance :~)

I have done a basic arch in the past using quads, basic pattern, on a pvc arch my husband helped me build, but I am having an outdoor wedding celebration next month and want to jazz it up to make it look tropical, bright colors, etc. I am the bride and won't have a lot of time that day, so hoping you can help me come up with a way to make a beautiful, colorful, tropical themed arch for our Wedding party celebration. How tall and wide is this tunnel? Do you recommend going any taller or longer. If so, would this method work if I did 15 links instead of 13?

I charge $250 for a 6'x8' two color arch. When my son's go back to school I will be able to concentrate more on the business. I have two special needs children, but my youngest is 24/7 care.

Hey Sandi..I love this tutorial...Are the link balloons the same size? are there any spaces in between?
The links are all fully inflated. There is negative space because we didn't stuff the holes, but you don't really notice the negative space, you see the color :~)

nope, by connecting the arches together, they form enough of a support for each other that it will stay up without helium :~)

If you did a series of arches close together it will give you a similar tunnel effect :~)

For outdoors you would want more weight, so maybe use free weights instead of water weights :~)
Amazing stuff. How big is the arch in height and width.
The height and width are dependent on each other. If you were to stretch it out end to end, it would be approx 16' - 17' or so. If you put the bases on each side closer together, it will be taller, but narrower. If you put the bases farther apart, it will be wider, but shorter. So, I can't give you an exact answer, but this should give you a pretty good idea :~)

What you recommend the size of the balloons if I wanted to do a tunnel that curves? How tall does this stand with 15 balloons?
I'm not sure that I understand the question- curves in what way? The height depends on how far apart the legs are, so 15 links would be just over 15' long (linear), so the tunnel could be 5' wide and 10' high, or 10' wide and 4' high (approx). Here's a guide for you... If the arch is wider than tall, then H+W = 15 , if it's taller than wide, then 2H+ W = 15, and if it's approx the same, then 1.5H + W = 15. I hope that helps :~)

do you have to use the 5 inch or can they be omitted for a sold color design
You have to use 5" to stabilize it and make it stand up (unless you do it all with helium). If you're using solid color balloons, you could use the same color 5" to keep it monochromatic :~)
Can this go outside ? Or there something different to do?
Hi, just wondering would it work with an 8 pack on the bottom or does it have to be the 10 balloon base?
It would work with an 8 pack, but I find the 10 pack to be more stable and to have a deeper pocket, meaning it can take a bigger water weight :~)
I'm doing a tunnel for outdoors. Do you recommend something more heavy duty for the weights? Should I use helium for outdoors?
You're probably still ok using air, but yes, I would definitely use heavier weights. Ideally something that would keep the balloons off the ground, so maybe even the base of a not lamp or something. Always overweight for outdoors ;~)

Hmmm.... you should have link balloons. Look for the sempertex or qualatex brands. check out their websites, both of them have distributor lists :~)

How many more balloons can be added to make the arch taller and still work without helium?
You might be able to add 2 or 3 more to each line, but I haven't tested it that way, so I couldn't say 100% if it would work or not. Theoretically it should because they support each other, but I'm not sure. If you try, please let me know how it worked out! :~)

Can you give us an idea how much you charge for this tunnel ? Cost of balloons and time required ?
The time required will depend on your skills. The cost of the balloons depends on where you buy them. It would take me about an hour- an hour and a half to inflate and build. :-)

Linking balloons. There are a few different manufacturers of them, and each one has a different brand name, but if you ask a distributor about linking balloons, they should know what you mean :~)
