      No way home is only above average tbh. I feel that spidey fans are forcing themselves to like a film that has so many flaws...mainly the interactions between the villains. Sandman and lizard are thrown for background but other 3 are very satisfying, especially Goblin. Multiverse was just a theme, it will be fleshed in Doctor strange 2. Movie was specifically about Spider-Man/Peter Parker which IMO it nailed it. I cared about Peter's world so much compared to previous 2 and stakes were also High. It is not the best movie but IMO it's the best Spider-Man movie, up there with Spider-Man 2 and spider-verse.

    I love all three Spider-men. The Tobey movies are my favorites but I feel like Tom has gotten an unfair amount of hate in the same way Andrew did when his films came out. People call him Spider-boy but his character was just a sophomore in High School when he started in the MCU. Have you ever met someone that age? They are incredibly young and immature. And it's been rewarding to see him grow, mature and become more independent so that by the end of No Way Home he is arguably more mature than either of the previous Spider-men were during their films and he is still just a senior in High school whereas Tobey graduated in the first half hour and Andrew graduated after one movie. The MCU is just spreading Spider-man's journey across more movies which is in line with the comics where he met most of his major villains before graduating High School.
    Another complaint is that everything was handed to him and he didn't have to develop his own tech but he built his own web shooters and developed his own web fluid before he ever met Tony Stark. Andrew got his web fluid from Oscorp and Tobey never built anything. When he gets his first Stark suit there really aren't any gadgets in it that comic Spider-man wouldn't have in his suit other than a heads-up display and AI but those don't really solve any of his problems and more often get in his way. The entire point of Homecoming's finale is that even without that tech he is still Spider-man. Similar message in Far from Home when he is able to defeat Stark tech not using more tech but by trusting his Spider-sense. I do agree that I am glad the Iron Spider suit is done. Great for fighting Thanos not street crime.
    Also Tony is in Homecoming for less than 15 minutes yet people act like he overshadows Spider-man.

    • @shreyjain535
      @shreyjain535 Před 2 lety +6

      Because although Tony is just for 15 minutes and whole story exists because of him. Holland's spider was iron boy junior in his two spiderman movies. There was little to no spiderman/Peter Parker. There's a reason why no way home feels like an origin story more than an ending of a trilogy

    My list would be somewhere in the middle of Greg's and John's... I prefer Garfield's charisma to either Holland or Maguire, but Sam Raimi's flair and style are hard to beat, so I'd still put SM 1 over both TASMs (maybe...). One of these days I'll sit down to make my list again, as mine has also changed through the years.

    Far From Home is much higher for me b/c it's clearly a love letter to Mysterio, who is a villain who shouldn't even be able to exist past, what, 1980? I mean these villains were made in the 60's by guys who need to feed their families and are not thinking past the next comic. In a cartoon, maybe they could still get away with it, but live action? No way. And those writers said, "hold my fucking beer" and told Gyllenhaal, "wear the fucking fishbowl." And he did. Because they love these stories. And that's why I love Watts' interpretations over the others. Not that there's no love in the Raimi universe b/c that comes through too, but there's so much to juggle with Spiderman in the MCU and he does it so well. People take for granted that he really did breathe new life into Spiderman, and I don't know why people think they would've sat through a third iteration of Spiderman's exact origins. He used the time and emotion so wisely, and made us care about Holland's Spiderman so much that no one is even close to being done with him.

    I think Greg’s list is spot on. I’ve always felt Garfield did the best job as Spider-Man from an acting perspective; he’s a tremendous actor. I also enjoyed Maguire’s portrayal as well. I would put Holland at the bottom, though still good. Honestly the first two MCU Spider-Man movies are pretty forgettable imo. Spider-Man 2 is definitely at top of the list, no question.

    1. Spiderman No Way Home
    This movie is just a celebration to what came before it and not only did it handle old characters well, but it fixed new ones too.
    2. Spider-Man 2
    This was the king of these movies for years but after Nwh Its bumped down 1. Still an incredible movie and the CGI is very impressive especially for it coming out in 04
    3. The Amazing Spider-Man
    This movie does so many things that just work. The emotion, VFX, music, and that costume ooh it's just so good.
    4. Spiderman Homecoming
    Such a fun movie. The characters and the constant recklessness of Peter is very comic book-y. It's just such a blast of a movie
    5. Spiderman
    Ah the classic, this movie has it all a great villain, great costume, great action, great story. And the comic book cheesy-ness is just amazing. Such an amazing film
    6. Spiderman Far From Home
    This movie was pretty good. Has some good action and emotional weight. And Mysterio is probably my favorite Live action spiderman villain to date after this movie came out. Only thing holding it back is the fact that this movie feels more like a bridge from homecoming to nwh instead of a movie that you absolutely need to watch. But I still like it.
    7. Spiderman 3
    I love this film, its such a blast and the downfall of Peter Parker in this film is handled very well. It just tried to make us care about too many things, and that's the studio's fault not Sam.
    8. The Amazing Spiderman 2
    I like this movie. The emotional weight Is incredible and the score and vfx is just so good. This movie just felt like it was trying to set up so much shit that it sometimes didn't feel like a spiderman movie you know? But I can still find some enjoyment.
    I by no means dislike or even hate any of these movies. I put them in the order of re-watchability for me. Let me know if you guys agree or disagree with my ranking and reasoning.

    You know, as much as people have said that Far From Home has way too much "Iron Man Jr" in it, for me, it's actually re-contextualized when you group it with the Phase 4 projects instead of being the end of Phase 3. As the end of Phase 3, it seems like a lot of Iron Man. But when you look at Phase 4, there is a project associated with each Avenger we lost in the Infinity Saga. Each of the fallen Avengers left people behind that now have to cope with the loss and learn how to move forward. WandaVision has Wanda grieving Vision and revisiting her grief for Pietro. Falcon and the Winter Soldier made Sam and Bucky learn what a world without Steve looks like and what it means to carry on his legacy. Hawkeye gives both Clint and Yelena the opportunity to mourn, remember, and in Yelena's case avenge Natasha. When grouped with these projects, this film is Peter (and Happy) learning how to move forward in a world without Tony, who's essentially become Peter's father figure as well as his mentor. As part of the collective MCU story, it's critical. No Way Home is allowed to have fewer Tony references because they got addressed in Far From Home. He's present in NWH here and there, but not a critical story point. It doesn't make sense for these characters to go straight to moving forward without showing them go through the grief process. Now that they've processed those emotions, their stories can progress without being overly weighed down by those past losses.

    • @RJ-mi3ck
      @RJ-mi3ck Před 2 lety +16

      I never understood the whole Iron Man Jr criticism. Tony was essentially the main character of the MCU so it makes sense that his death would affect the MCU going forward, and it’s only right that Peter would be affected by it since Tony essentially took him under his wing during Civil War. The whole movie is about Peter moving on from Tony’s death and realizing that he doesn’t have to be the same symbol that Iron Man was.

      @@RJ-mi3ck 100%. Tony and Peter's relationship is one of my favorite aspects Phase 3, and it really gives us new aspects to see for both of the characters. Just like Tony grieved Peter when he got dusted and had to find a way to move forward, Peter needed the chance to do the same.

    Garfield and films were always underrated. He has always been my favourite spider-man. I've never been a comic reader, but I'd always 'heard' about how snarky spider-man is in comics, especially amazing spider-man, especially while suited up and I loved to see it. He truly brought that to spider-man, but I don't recall them undercutting their emotional beats with it in unrealistic ways. The action of those movies still hold up as well. The villains get criticized somewhat, perhaps rightly, but in hindsight, they're really not anymore disposable or lacking compared to the MCU villains.
    Even in 2, I feel like the whole "too much going on" sentiment that has spread around has always been somewhat overblown. I remember reading about it before I ever watched it. I expected like, a full-blown, active sinister six in a 1 v 6 team fight. Instead of we got set up for a lot of characters, and IMO enough of a connection to the characters whose stories were playing out in the current movie. The set up and number of characters, again, really is no different to what people praise the MCU for. If anything I feel like their reception initially was heavily influenced by people being dismayed they weren't MCU lol.

    The thing is Spider-Man 1 has 10x more memorable scenes than tasm 1, I prefer Spider-Man 1’s story and the theme of the movie is better. Also Spider-Man 1 has a much better sound track. And while the villain motives are similar I think goblins Jekyll and Hyde performance destroyed the lizards and goblins still makes more sense. He lost everything he worked for in his life and wants to take it back and then some, especially cause of the insanity gas. And he sees Spider-Man as a clear threat to all the power he wants. It makes more sense than wanting to turn everyone into lizard imo.

    I can understand the gripe about MCU’s Spidey being so intrinsically connected to the Avengers, but I honestly thought after five movies covering him being a solo hero, the MCU era was a great change of pace. For me, the MCU era just has more personality than the previous eras because of how they restructured his films into essentially 80s teen movies. Also, now In hindsight, looking at Holland’s trilogy as a whole, his trilogy really is this coming-of-age story. As opposed to the previous two eras, where he essentially comes of age by becoming a superhero by the end of their first movies, the MCU trilogy takes its time. They have him a hero right off the bat, but we see him mature into the superhero we expect him to be, even working elements from modern comics (ie. having different suits), until we get him to where the story usually starts; it’s the perfect analogy for a teenager transitioning to adulthood. All the complaints of him being tied to the Avengers, or Ironman Man Jr, I took as the equivalent to a kid being coddled by his parents and teachers. Slowly but surely, he learns responsibility and consequence, and by the end, he’s striking out on his own, very much like every kid eventually has to do. I know people will disagree, but to each their own. My personal ranking, favorite to least (including Venom):
    1. Into the SpiderVerse

    I watched the Tobey Spider-Man films when they came out, skipped the Andrew ones, and watched the Tom ones. I decided to watch the Andrew ones because of No Way Home, however, after watching the first one it made me dislike Andrew's interpretation even more. So, I would put both of those at the bottom and I haven't even seen the second one. TASM 1 had some good moments, but they felt unearned. Next would be Spider-Man 3, then Spider-Man 1, then Far From Home, No Way Home, Spider-Man 2, then Homecoming. I know people will super disagree that I like Homecoming best, I mean the last fight with Vulture was really boring, but I loved Peter's and Tony's relationship--which I know that "real" fans hate because he's Baby Iron Man rather than Spider-Man, but I appreciate seeing that a 15 year old actually can't handle being a superhero with zero help and guidance. So, that's my ranking. Probably strongly based on my preference for Tom's interpretation of the character.
