    • @bettinadarger3983
      @bettinadarger3983  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes rocks help a lot. You can also cut the bottom off a nursery pot (about an inch and a half depending on the size of your new pot) and put that upside down in the bottom of your new po without drainage. That will create a space for the water to go without having your roots sit in it.

    The plants have scarring or marks on the leaves, which I always thought was due to minor physical damage. I recently just learned that that is a sign of scale or thrip damage. How can you tell whether it is scale or not? Many say you do not need to see the scale insects yet still have similar physical signs.

    • @Fulpkg07
      @Fulpkg07 Před 4 lety +4

      Claire514 I just discovered some of my plants are infected w scale, it’s usually a bunch of round little bumps and they’re either brown or black and some have this little red dot right in the middle. U will notice i can easily scrape off the bumps but u will also notice the plant will look discolored from the nutrients being sucked out by the scale. There are fungicides or neem oil(highly diluted not concentrate)that treat this or some say u can just apply straight rubbing alcohol allllllll over the plant for a few days until u no longer notice new spots looking infected. Some people mistake edema for scale, edema is just when the plant is slightly over watered but not so much that it rots, and u will see blemishes or scab like things on the plant

    The rhizome I cut was actually attatched to another snake plant (there was actually two in my pot, not even attached)..The rhizome was much longer and I ended up with only two little roots on my pup, the rest were still attached to the other half I left behind.. :(

      I would suggest taking it out so you can properly see where you are cutting. I've had some luck rooting sansevieria in water but I've also had some that rotted and turned to mush so it's a gamble.

      I agree, I feel like seeing what you're working on helps, but if a part breaks off or if you see where to cute, go for it!

    What type of soil did you use to repot?

      A free draining soil mix is best. They are prone to root rot so drainage is important!
