- Happy National Hispanic Heritage month! I wanted to give you some Latinx book recommendations from three genres for this video. I think it's important to expose yourself to new narratives and genres- which is what I do on this channel! Being Mexican-American myself, I could use more recs that feature characters like me and my own family. I hope you pick one or two out and find a new favorite! The celebration runs from September 15th to October 15th.
xo Jo ✨

More amazing books to add to my kindle device!
I really appreciated the information about Hispanic Culture Month and Latinx at the beginning 💕 great video!
Thanks for watching Elise! 🥰
Thank you for the recs! 🥰🥰
I hope you try one 🥰
Thank you so much for explaining the use of Latinx. I studied Latin American Literature for my minor in college, but Latinx wasn't a term I heard at that time. Now it makes sense and I appreciate its significance ❤️
May I also recommend another stunning example of Latinx Magical Realism?: The Murmur of Bees by Sofía Segovia (translation by Simon Bruni). Historical Mexico setting, lyrical writing, and one of my favorite examples of magical realism ✨️🐝
Oh my gosh I’m so glad that was helpful! I’m a little nerd when it comes to it and wanted to share lol.
And how cool! Latin American literature 😍 you must have a ton of recs. I will add the one you suggested above!
Well here in latinoamerica we don't use that word, actually i haven't met anyone who likes it 🤷
Estoy tan jodidamente emocionada por Tias and primas
Appreciate you putting this video together! 🥰

This was such a great informational video! I put pretty much all of these on my TBR; they all sound amazing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and recommendations :-)
Thank you for watching! I hope you try one this month and find a favorite or spark some more curiosity 🤍
@@xo_jo I just wanted to let you know, I just finished the Sunbearer Trials and I absolutely loved it! It was such an amazing book and I am so glad I read it. Thank you so much for the wonderful recommendation! :-) 🎉
@@bookstalgic eee! Thanks for coming back and letting me know. I adore it so much and I’m glad you loved it too!
I have the sunbearers trials waiting for me on my shelf and I am looking forward to reading it! And I have two other books by aiden thomas as well. I really liked they both died at the end but haven't tried the prequel. Trejo's book is on my list to get to one day. I have the house of spirits on my shelf as well. I've read two Allende books before and really like her writing.
Oh my gosh that’s so nice to know. I’m so excited to try her writing. And I’m glad you loved TBDATE! Can’t wait for you to try Sunbearers 😘
I added Trejo to my TBR!
Yay! I hope you thoroughly enjoy his story- it's so profound!
I can’t wait to get my copy of what the river knows in the mail!!
It’s so good!!!
Thanks for the recs! These all sound interesting. I haven't read a lot of Latin American literature I'm afraid but I have a couple of books in my TBR: The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, which is a reimagining of the H G Wells story in 19th century Mexico, and A Planet for Rent, a satirical sci-fi novel by Cuban writer Yoss.
Doctor Moreau I saw recently at a bookshop and now I’m curious. I hope you try it during this national holiday and let us know your thoughts!
Loved it! I might not speak Spanish, but I relate due to the Brazilian, African Portuguese speaking countries, Portugal and so many other communities ❤
