I’m so happy to see this. The Ultracheese has been one of my absolute favorites since the album came out - it’s incredibly moving and beautiful, and just as much so live. And it’s kind of cool that, for Alex, this album is defined by him changing his look often as opposed to sticking with one basic theme, which honestly represents the album pretty well.

Not many bands can do as huge a change up as these guys have done and pull it off. I do like Arctics but I'm not a massive fan, but I love the transformation from awkward teen celebs to Bowie style performances like this. Good on em.

When Colbert introduced them, to the uninformed, it legit could have sounded like he threw random words together. He could have said "Now performing 'The Baseline' off their new album 'Tranquility Cheese Hotel In The Arctic', please welcome 'The Casino Monkeys'" and it would have sounded as coherent.
Instead of hating on the hairstyle (which DOES suit him, common admit it y'all!) we should simply admire this fantastic performance. They are extremely talented and amazing musicians who deserve all the love and praise.

I find myself coming back to this performance time and time again. Their best live. Alex’s voice is unreal in this one.
The point of being an artist is to constantly reinvent yourself keep the act exciting and creative, look at all the greats who have done it The Beatles, David Bowie, Queen. Alex and the boys should be applauded for experimenting with new genres and looks, really touching song and performance.

Uno de los mejores temas del disco. Tiene una letra muy bien lograda, reflexiva, simbólica e introspectiva. Ultracheese mira hacia al pasado, evoca con nostalgia momentos mejores. Yeah their music definitely doesn’t have the same heavier rock feel of the first two albums. The album itself has stepped into a different genre so I get why some people don’t like it! I just feel bad when people call it “trash” bc it’s not, it’s really clever, just different. (Having said that, I think this track could’ve been on Suck It and See if it had more guitar work/heavier drums)
Musically, it’s way way more layered than any of their older stuff. Also this album was composed on a piano bc after AM got huge Alex said he found it difficult to be inspired by the guitar.
All AM albums have amazing lyrics but I think this album is probably the most lyric dependent. As Alex has said in interviews, he’s using the language of science fiction to describe modern society (it’s more subtle on this song but there’s others where it’s more obvious). The lyrics have the same kind of observational bluntness that their debut album had, but as @Jake Underland pointed out, there’s a lot more social commentary (he talks about the effects of technology, how we consume media, isolation, politics, fame etc.) Lyrically, the thing separating this album from the others is that none of the songs stick to one topic, each song covers a different combination of themes. And a lot of the songs reference each other in a way that’s difficult to explain, but they all contribute to the bigger picture and themes. I know it takes a bit of patience and scrolling through genius.com to understand, and I don’t blame people for not wanting to do so! Just want people to know there’s more to it than “just boring lounge music” :)
