This series reminds me of the 2014 Finals. LeBron and Wade were the big stars, but the Spurs beat them with defense and ball movement. There was no clear star and anyone in their starting lineup could have won the Finals MVP. Boston looks like a very different team than they were in the 2022 Finals.

@@slightexagI get it man - his shot-making has been awful as has his shot selection at times, but you have to give Tatum credit for consistently driving into double and triple teams and finding the open guy, which has resulted in 17 assists through the first two games on 34 passes for potential assists. Seven of his 12 assists in game two resulted in shots within three feet of the basket. Tatum has been rebounding the ball at a high rate as well, which is important because Horford and Porzingis aren’t great rebounders at this point - for centers at least. JT has been guarding Gafford and Lively at times as well which has caused switching issues for Dallas offensively and has allowed Boston to not double while containing the lob threat. Like I said, he’s shooting like crap and he’s due for a big game here, but he’s still a big part of what the Celtics are doing here and why they won the first two games of the Finals.

As a Celtics fan, it was crazy to me that so many people picked Dallas to win this series. Not only that, almost 80% of the betting money was on the Mavs. Have people just forgotten how good the Celtics have been all year? Even without Porzingus, they were still winning games. Seems like people talked themselves into why the Celtics couldn't win, as opposed to just looking at all their weapons and realizing they would be tough to beat in a 7 game series.
It's only 2 games, Dallas could win at home (though the Celtics have been even better on the road, undefeated in the playoffs), but it's going to be very difficult to win the next 4 out of 5 games. Celtics in 5.

Boston has a very good team no doubt, better role players and a deep roster. But the quality of basketball, the intensity, that Dallas had to go through in the WC play-offs was on a different level. Each series against the Clippers, OKC, and then TWolves, was like Dallas battling in the finals at every stage. It's mentally and physically exhausting. That's not an excuse for Dallas' performance in this series but Celtics did not have to go through the same intensity in their run to the finals. The fifth best team in the West getting to the Finals is definitely a monumental achievement as well. It's evident Dallas came within inches of winning in the second game despite the turnovers, and missed free throws, etc. Boston better win this series for a 64-win team with the most rounded roster in the league!!

Its just a breathe of fresh air compared to a lot of these other Sports Media platforms that will only talk down/bad about teams & players because they dont know anything about the game only whats gonna clickbait people.

Boston opened the door wide and invited Dallas to win game 2. The missed wide open 3’s, the slow down of pace at the end of the game, Tatum couldn’t make a bucket if you threatened him……and Dallas still lost. They won’t shoot like that again. And they are clearly the team with more stamina because they are working Dallas hard and Luka looked completely gassed in Q4. I know Dallas isn’t a terrible team but this is a terrible match up.
And remember….Boston is consistently a better road team.

If you remember the Lakers always had great scoring teams but lost to the Celtics until they get a defensive presence. If you look at the score of this series, it is driven by defense not offense. Celtics control pace and character of this game….a defensive series and the Celtics actually do not care about scoring….just winning

I never hear people talk about experience and physical/mental preparation. It's that experience and having been there that is a major plus for Boston. They aren't panicking, they're staying with the game plan, and not letting anything get into their heads. You can see the younger, more inexperienced teams losing it. It happened to Indy. It happened to Minn. And it's happening to Dallas now. The entire Boston team has been there before, except Zingis, but he's a pro. He knows what he's got and he's bought in 100%. I've also noticed that Boston doesn't look tired like they have in past years. Mentally and physically this is a much different team from past years. Also, keep in mind that Boston is a much better road team than a home team. They may not sweep, but I don't see this series going more than five games. Boston has earned this ring big time and they're ready to collect.

The one-on-one defense is critical. Dallas thrived by forcing defenses to collapse and opening up a shooter or by drawing the opposing big into a bad switch, thereby opening up the lob. Boston doesn't do that for either. I give huge credit to White, Holiday and JB who have played stellar defense on Dallas' superstar duo. It seems like Boston is satisfied to let Holiday (arguably the best guard defender in the NBA) sit on Kyrie while they throw a rotation at Luka. The goal, from what I have seen, isn't to stop Luka. It's to force an injured Luka to win a game by himself. Boston cuts off the rest of his supporting cast and limits Kyrie, thereby putting everything onto Doncic who is dealing with two or three different injuries. I think Boston is fine with Luka getting hsi 30-35 points on moderate efficiency so long as three of the other four players struggle.
I agree with that strategy 110%. If Luka wins a game because he drops 70 against a rotation of strong defenders, then so be it. What I don't want to see is a game lost because PJ Washington goes ballistic and drops 25.

Its very hard to guard bcuz all of them r good 3 point shooters and can hit at a high percentage. 3 is more than 2, need to be ok with giving up the 2 over a 3 more times than not imo
