I think that if a new Skylanders game releases, they should do the same thing Starlink Battle for Atlas did:
You could have the option to buy the characters digitally or physically. This way I believe that both people that aren't interested in buying the figures and people that want to buy them can enjoy the game

@@OnkelSquid Imo, the figures should have a slightly higher price than the digital Skylanders, since you're not only paying for the in-game content, but also for the figure itself (for example, a digital Skylander could be $9, and the figure version of said Skylander could be around $15). Although this could make more people buy the digital Skylanders instead of the figures, I don't know which option could be better honestly.
totally a great idea, all this would need is backwards compatibility with the OG figures so people don’t feel the need they need to rebuy their collection

That's like saying we should revive bubsy with no changes to gameplay despite it being unfun to play and nobody asking for it. So like when they brought back bubsy last time before shelving him again, never to be seen again. Is that really what you want for this series? No, of course not, a franchise shouldn't aim to die immediately. So yeah, unfortunately, the figures cannot stay.

Genuinely a quarter of the fun of skylanders is going out to a fleamarket or vintage game store and trying to one of these ancient figures from our childhood, another quarter of the fun collecting these cool figures and watching your collection grow and then physically picking one up and placing them on the portal and watching them transfer to the game. Making everything micro transactions genuinely takes away half of the fun and whimsy of skylanders abd you'd be no long be able to justify paying for both a game and every character in it, we put uo with the purchasing of every character inna game bc we're paying for an experience and we gett a tangible item out of it aswell
Lowkey, doing what Disney infinity did would be the best option. And they can continue the series with a huge bang if they did that. Id much rather pay for an in game character then go searching 10 different stores for the character I want

Finally someone brings up the disney infinity pc games that would be exactly how i would want them to do skylanders bring a remastered collection and if that does good make a new game in that exact style maybe instead of paying for the characters you level up through the game and you unlock new characters its wishful thinking but idk it could happen
I think the obvious solution is a hybrid approach.
Have the characters be unlockable digitally (Ideally through gameplay rather than buying them, maybe collecting their soul gem in a level unlocks them), but also have buying the PHYSICAL figures be an option to play as them.

@@BennySGBI don’t think it would be complicated. The hybrid issue, to me, is a matter of gauging the demand for physical figures and selling the inventory. I want to see figures, but I also don’t want there to be inventory that hasn’t been sold, leading to another end of the franchise as a whole (it is a business at the end of the day). I’d rather go digital and see the franchise come back for remasters and, ideally, new games, than to permanently lose the franchise due to unsold inventory.
Can't it be like just letting people buy characters per dlc and let them put figure not saving them like aa per buying dlc? Having DLC bought would lead to no need to put the characters on the portal. This would be interesting.
Also, Xbox isworking on backwards compatibility once again, maybe Skylanders SA and Giants go backwards compatible?
It would be nice to buy every title via Xbox Story and have the current gen versions of these games.
The new game would require not many new characters, but to have PvP, let up to 4 players play the game for couch gaming. Adding Portal masters as some rpg characters with special abilities (for example having +20% DMG playing giants or having damage reduction on using water element characters).
Having tournaments (choosing 1-5 skylanders for each player dedicated) would be great idea too.
Of course, all of the characters would require well balance done.

Imagine a legacy sequel where Skylands is divided, with peace and harmony among the races being replaced by fear, and with the magic all gone, a group of aspiring Skylanders must find out what happened to the magic and restore Skylands to its former glory. The twist is that a new villain named Narissa wanted all of the magic belong to herself, but the original Skylanders converted all the magic into ten elemental crystals, breaking the curse, in order to prevent the races from turning against each other in fear, this backfired as the crystals were scattered all over Skylands. The Skylands seen in the six games is called “Ancient Skylands” by the new generation.
Im cool with a virtual version of figure, BUT they need to let us unlock them with all the figures.
Here's a great idea they could implement which would keep most happy. Use an ingame store to buy more skylanders (digital route) but the toys that have been collected over the years could be used as a placeholder instead of buying it in the online store. It could make all the toys worth something and useable while they could just launch a one size fits all portal (or just make one of the old portals usable) for those skylanders while also avoiding making more figures (physical versions).
Honestly if they did a skylanders remastered I'd want them to re-print the original figures in SMALL AMOUNTS so that the stores aren't flooded with figures
I have read a lot and read various continuations of Skylanders Academy season 4, but only in one story on Fanfiction I found something like the hero from Doom Eternals, Doom Slayer and more, from Crysis 3 and Devil May Cry, their accents also appear in the story titled Skylanders Academy Season 4 Doom Adventure, the story is not only funny but intended for every age group, which should be surprising for someone like Slayer from the Doom games, but it is.
I think toys for bob are debating over wheter to have a way to scan in figures if you have them and unlock them in game by playing or buy them if you want to unlock them faster, or to have a new idea where the old figures are collectibles as an homage
If another skylanders game is ever made, it would be cool if the series was rebooted with a new plot or something and a new way to get sky landers, like I have an idea, like when Kaos is fighting the skylanders, he does some powerful spell that seals them away before he's beaten, and when you get the game, you're supplied with starter skylanders that avoided getting sealed, and to unlock new skylanders, you go through their memories on how they join the skylanders, you can play as them to get a feel on the abilities and play style, and decide if you want to unlock them or not so there's no financial regret, but you can also get their figurine to unlock a skylanders immediately

in a perfect world its a normal singleplayer game with a bunch of free characters and a bunch of paid ones in a store, not a battlepass, its unrealistic to assume theyll do anything physical
I think the best option for skylanders to return is to have a collection of games in one like Super Mario 3D All Stars.
But it’s all the 6 main games plus the five 3ds games too with characters being digital and having to unlock them by doing achievements.
Plus I think it would also best for Skylanders to start being able at PC (aka Steam) since now people who play these games are now grown adults playing on PC. And they done this before with SSA so it shouldn’t be a huge problem.
I'm still with the portal.but thanks to the company, I like having portals.
I hope they make a spyros adventure remake. And maybe you could scan the OG figures to unlock a bonus🎉

A new skylanders game should be possible to 100%. I hate it when you have things that appear in a shop for like, a day, and then it’s gone forever. I’m fine with seasonal stuff, but nothing like that.

I prefer the digital and being able to download the figures as they release. I don't want to have to stand in line at stores or have to keep dealing with scalper buying up the figures online and then selling them for 3 and 4 times the retail price. You all can keep dealing with scalpers and standing in line if you want to. I am just sick of that just to play a game.

In my opinion it would be better to make a few figures and design the game so that it could work without Toys to Life. But the old figures should always be usable.
The toys could honestly be scanned to let you unlock characters in the new game, but either way I feel an open world or semi open world game taking place in the Spyro's Adventure world would be the ultimate fanservice. It could take place in the future or maybe you go back in time. Many ways to do it, and they could have dlc stuff to unlock areas traveled to in Giants, etc.
Or you know, maybe it's just another Spyro game that links the original trilogy to Skylands.
I truly believe skylanders would blow up if they wouldn’t go digital. People love new things. It would certainly get me out of the house more often.

in my opinion if they bring it back they should either make it a option and still keep the collecting aspect by selling them online instead of in stores.
I like the digital idea tbh I started playing on pc with files for the characters I don’t like looking around for a specific game to play a game that’s over 10 years old.
But having to buy the figures Irl is amazing and actually more fun because rather than having to scroll for one hour just to find one specific skylander, you have most of them in front of you, and if they didn’t have the one you wanted, come back later or try a different store.
Plus you actually get to have a chance to go outside for a change. Now I do think a online multiplayer could be possible, like a battle and story mode mp could be cool. For battle mode you choose you your skylander, and you only one chance of winning, and you can’t change mid game. Now for the Story mode mp, you can change mid play or someone could revive you but they have a limited heal count.
Also micro transactions are soo annoying and take all fun out of it. No micro transactions, no skins, no cosmetics, except ones you can earn by actually playing the game. Instead of taking mommy’s credit card.
IMO they should release figures while providing an all-digital option, similar to Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas. That would give everyone an option for what they want.
I personally like the idea of having all the skylanders as digital unlocks. For Spyros adventure when you collect an eternal source you get the skylanders of that element. You would start off with Spyro, trigger happy and gill grunt and once you get the eternal air source you get lightning rod, sonic boom, warnado and whirlwind. And if you have the irl toys then you can use those to power up your skylander in the game like a damage boost Or a secret upgrade.
I would like to see it as a beat ‘em-up style game with fighting game elements in it, so we can have battle mode in it too!!!
Well, I think they should probably do is to make the game player so you and three other friends can play together. Another thing could be you can scan the Skylander on the controller and remove these selection from setting icon. That way you have to go to the trouble of picking up Skylander
I feel a PC/Console release with maybe 20 toys over 2.5 years would be Ideal. I feel skins/chase variants would be great in an online store as well. We don't need a rushed game every year for the sake of a cash grab. Once the inventory is gone it's gone. Let's limit production and increase the value of certain releases. The collectors will have to work harder and the everyday player can complete the game via online purchase. My kids like the fact that the toy goes to the TV. So that original 2011 gimmick is what really drives the kids in my opinion.
So by looking at this video, I think an idea like StarLink could possibly work…with some minor changes. There would still be physical skylanders at retail stores, variant exclusives, adventure packs & stuff like that for like 9-25 bucks. However, here’s the kicker. You wouldn’t be forced to pay for physical figures! There would be online figures to purchase as well, same as the retail and adventure packs also for way cheaper! I’m thinking 3 for characters, 9 or 10 for adventure levels! The variants however are figure exclusive to keep the rareness in check. So it can work for both sides, both online for completion purposes (no one likes the robow n windstorm situation) and the physical figures for collection purposes, but also both are for the game so this is a very well possibility!

I feel that Toys for Bob should have the NFC chips all stored to where they could support the use of the figures regardless.
What I’m saying would require the PlayStation and Xbox cameras, but the switch has the scanner on the bottom of the joycon, and phones have a camera already.
But if they could just unlock the functionality to quick scan a figure and load it in than it would be a nice bit of fan service for all the people who gathered them over the years.
Too add to that people already sell NFC chip cards of expensive figures to people who don’t wanna pay 400 for Robow; so Toys for Bob could technically even charge a small fee for people to send in figures to get a new chip.
Spyro’s upgrade tree needs to be completely overhauled to include more elemental abilities than fire breath and the comet dash which was his moveset from the PS1 Spyro trilogy. Maybe reclassify him and Cynder under the aether element (the symbol of aether has been popping up in Reignited and Crash on the Run making a reclassification of Spyro under Aether for a future Skylanders game plausible). For changing his elemental abilities, there would be a toggle using the left and right buttons on the d-pad to cycle between all of the breath weapons he used in the Legend of Spyro trilogy. Fire can still be the default, and subsequent elements can be unlocked through the upgrade tree. And depending on the element he has utilized would function as a secondary element for elemental gates. Unlike the Swap Force, Spyro wouldn’t count for both aether and a secondary element simultaneously for dual element gates. Cynder can also have this mechanic due to her being from LoS. It is stupid that Spyro’s Skylanders bio states that he is a master of all elements when the gameplay for the character is only his moveset from the PS1 trilogy (and Reignited due to being a remake of the PS1 trilogy).
For the Dark Variants, they would be toggled between by pressing up on the d-pad. For Spyro specifically, it would turn his aether element into dark aether upon turning into Dark Spyro.
Also, NO MMO Skylanders game! I want a game that doesn’t require the internet to play. Also, multi platform is a must. No Xbox exclusivity for Skylanders period.
I think if Skylanders were to come back, it would be cool if they made like interactive chips or trading cards of the characters that would work with the games. I’d be more than happy with digital, but I have that collectors aspect in me.

Even darkstalkers despite not having a game since the 90’s has more support/acknowledgment than skylanders with Morrigan and Lilith being in every capcom crossover game and still having dolls and comics made of them and all the games being in the capcom fighting collection and arcade stadium

They make a new game, that’s like every other one…BUT…it’s online multiplayer. So u could beat up Kaos with ur friends, and (like ur idea) we could have to grind to collect the Skylanders or there be an item shop
I’d say a remastered collection is the way to go. One thing they could do is to make all the characters digitally playable, but maybe make the figures give some kind of small reward when scanning them on the portal. Like, not selling the figures in stores again, but for the people who decided to keep their old ones.
I do see the prospects of both perspectives for having the figures and the in-game purchases respectively. However, when it comes to the survival and longevity of the game's franchise, it would be impractical to devote resources to create figures that would not have certainty for returning the revenue to create them.
I, personally, would prefer to have the figures be produced for remastered versions of the first three games (Spyro's Adventure, Giants, and Swap Force) as I was one of the players who wanted to play the games during their airings, but did not have the funds to acquire the games or any of their additional figures. Placing a character onto the game's toypad- the Portal of Power- and watching that plastic model animate to life was a unique experience. However, unless there was a massive demand to meet the supply Toys For Bob makes to produce the stock of each game's roster of characters, the decision would be seen as financially insufficient and unreliable from a commercial standpoint, as the public's interest in the franchise has diminished over the years . The franchise has created a community that fondly cherishes the world and characters it created, and the stories it told, but that community is a niche one. Unless the demand to see the games be remastered was large enough to breach into the general public's cognition and maintain its hold long enough for Microsoft, Activision, and Toys for Bob to take notice and decide to remaster the franchise and all of its figures so that the company can sufficiently generate the funds to pay off its investment, I do not see recreating the figures for remastered versions of Skylanders' games to be a viable way for the franchise to return and survive.
Having access to all of the characters in each game's respective roster through the means of in-game purchases would provide an easier method for Toys For Bob to remaster the games and its characters for consoles of newer generations, and allow them to update the characters with new combat moves, animations, voice lines, sound effects, textures, and other properties. It may not be as invigorating as slamming or placing the toy onto the toypad, but it would be an easier way for the company to devote the resources necessary to mass-produce the recreation of old and creation of new characters alike without the ludicrous costs of making millions of plastic figures that have no certainty of ever being purchased. Though, this option is not exempt of flaws as the in-game purchasing model could be altered to incite players to pay more than is feasibly reasonable for purchasing a downloadable character and its content. The content itself could be locked behind a lootbox or gamepass that is only available for a limited time, and you would have to delve into untapped funds to hope to acquire your desired character and their content before the deadline passes you by. Not all players have the time or funds necessary to keep a constant eye on whether or not they have a chance to acquire the fictional character that they want in a niche fantastical game created for a children's demographic.
The alternative to the in-game purchasing model would be to have all of the game's characters be included in the initial purchase of the game, like Disney Infinity 3.0 Golden. Though, that would turn a $50 to $60 game to $70 or more to account for the resources needed to recreate the entire roster; that is if the remastered versions are not priced at $30 to $40 at base price. One would not think that the extra several dollars would be necessary, but you do have to factor in the amount of time and effort to recreate and implement the assets and mechanics for each character in each game that Microsoft, Activision, and Toys For Bob would choose to revitalize via a remaster.
Until Microsoft, Activision, and Toys For Bob provide an official announcement of how they would handle remastering the Skylander's franchise, if they were going to do that at all, we can only speculate with the knowledge that we do have and know. Whether you agree with my perspective or not, do hold in mind that this is merely a comment from one random man on the internet commenting on a video about a childhood franchise of his that is currently dead, despite its community wanting remastered versions of its games. So, take from this whatever you might.

Well I mean, half the magic of skylanders is trying to hunt to the one you want.
I see what your going for, but I dont. In my personal opinion if toys for bob doesnt wanna bring back the figures then what is the point of making another game? It takes away the excitement of collecting and physically putting them on the portal. But also where you said, "they could just do like 32 figures," that could totally work. Same with some kind of remaster and not making new characters, that would actually be fire
I recon they re master them and make a new one but make it so you buy the characters with in game currency and you can buy an a portal so you can use you’re toys from the old games

I think that for Skylanders 7 instead of making new Skylanders they should have no gimmick and just try to make a good game and the figures should be Skylanders from previous games, like Skylanders like scratch, Spotlight, echo, other trap team cores, double dare trigger happy, thrillapede, wild storm, and chompy mage could go back to retail price
I think something you should've mentioned and compared was the Switch Port of Imaginators, which does already contain a digital library of your Skylanders when they're scanned on one of the two analog stick since it acts as an NFC reader. So that way, you don't need to keep swapping especially since the Switch Port never came with a Portal. Plus, Superchargers is also the only game in the franchise that is offered with a digital portal owners pack. And something that should've been brought up is the Series S which has no disc drive and every game except Superchargers requires a disc and it will need to require a downloadable version. But IT NEEDS to keep the functionality of the original portals and thank goodness the Series X and S support the Xbox One portals.

I like the digital idea only if they also have the figures to because I don’t want to grab a rare figure for $200 when I could get for 5 bucks on the digital store
They should make digital characters but can be used as a substitute for when you eventually get the real ones. And so if you buy the figure and the digital figure it doubles the stats.

sadly they shut down the online MMO a while ago, so the codes are pretty much useless now :(
Me and a small team of my partners are working on an open world skylanders fan game, the starting roster will be, Spyro,Stealth elf, Eruptor, Gill grunt, Trigger happy, Warnado, Terra-fin, and Chop Chop its going to be a breath of the wild type semi directed open worl game, there will be a main directive quest but also side quests you can do as well, This game will be released on steam in time to come, i personally am the one making the character models and animation, But if anyone has any constructive support, critisism, or even a name as we have yet to think of one please comment below
That sounds awesome, definitely make sure NOT to use the actual names of the skylanders and maybe make them look a little different. You wouldn’t want to get into any legal trouble in terms of copyright.
@@BennySGB oh dont worry about that we have already covered the legality loops about skylander's IP and character designs they are different enough to pass but, people will know what it is if they have played skylanders, good looking out though cause to be honest some things may need tweaking design wise for safety, if you have any suggestions or things you would like to see or have in a game like that let me know cause me and the rest of the team would love some support and influence from the skylanders fans community

@@BennySGB for right now although we are trying to keep it faithful as a skylanders fan game and will be using certain skylanders IP, we do have a back up incase of us getting a C&D, so we can keep the game mechanics but still change character designs and names and other features so we arent pulling a Kaiju Universe and leaving for month coming back with scraps
I'm okay for the all digital Idee If there is also a way to Scan in the old figures to unlock them. I don't Care If the New Skylanders have figures but i want to be able to also Play with the old figures without having to buy them again

The digital idea is the obvious move for Activision.
This would be cool, but so would Halo:Marines where you go back to the original game as a squad of marines.
I don’t mean to make it sound like I’m crapping on your ideas but what about the soul gems to unlock characters and I think some controllers have NFC readers in them (I don’t know I’m still on 360 and PS2) so if you already have skylanders just scan them in and you already unlock them.

My one hope, if they ever remaster the games, is to make additional characters for each element.
Take SSA, for example. One new character per element, or even re-introducing the Light and Dark elements, creates new playstyles for new and old players.
Plus the addition of remasters introduces the idea of Reposes. Sunburn may finally have the chance to get a series 2 or even a lightcore. The additions for each game doesn't require making new characters; some just need a Series 2, such as Fright Rider.
The digital vs physical release of characters is very interesting, however. Starlink had a great format for combing them, and Skylanders could benefit from a similar route. Maybe combine certain characters from the same element, or creating new packs with a Skylander from each? Theres many ways for Activision to go. The question is, will they ever take one?
Good idea, maybe they can just make a new game and allow the old figures but ADDITIONALLY make light core or series 2 versions of the characters that haven't gotten that treatment yet.
That would be too much of a hassle to gather the toys. Also respect is a choice. If it came back, it would be innovative again. Then what about all the other characters?, what would happen to them? What about making money? I remember that Display toys to life game.
The way you described it makes the second idea terrible ngl. Online MMOs are at their worst when you have to pay real world money in order to be able to compete. It's less egregious with Skylanders because not only do you get the character, but a tangible item to keep. Meaning that these figures have real tangible worth both in the game they're used in, and to the community as a whole due to the amount of collectors. Skylanders died originally not just because of oversaturation of the market, but an oversaturation of a market devoid of any substance and charm outside of the base formula. All skylanders needs to succeed is to entice players on more than a surface level. Create more rarity with products, support the second hand market, have a deeper story for those who care about that kind of stuff to dig into and more complex gameplay for those who only care about that. Push multiplayer modes more. Skylanders can't JUST be a "toys to life" game to succeed.

I just am not a fan of much that is all digital overall, but to be honest, I think I would just like to see how a Skylanders game, no gimics at all, would do. The propity was quite popular if all the other merch I had seen out there, nevermimd the show. I am not sure if there would have been a lot of confusion if it was done shortly after the dropping of the toys, but now would be a good time.

Actually, there were 33 unique skylanders in the first game. Also, there is a fanmade Skylanders game. It also uses figures. So, technically, we already have a new Skylanders game coming out. Skylanders: Dungeon heros.

Or, hear me out, cards instead of figures, yes, you can still use the figures, but the cards have barcodes on the bottom that are scanned by a new hybrid figure and card portal, and you can do some really unique stuff, like adding a gimmick, for example say they add a armor gimmick, the cards could have so many different armor types, without the need to make molds and stuff
I am not thrilled about skylanders getting digital since it would just devalue the figures at least in my opinion. I get that its maybe the call here for skylanders to become a digital game but those who collected the figures like my self would kind of feal like collecting the figures where for nothing.
If they whith idea 2 what I think they should do is make it toy cimbatible so they don't make new toys ports or anything but if you already have them you plug the portal in put the skylanders on it to quick unlock so if you already have toys you can use them but they they don't make a risk whith new toys
