So I’m in Florida too and I’ve been working on getting AC in a tent since May! My first set up was a huge 10 person Coleman with a screened porch and a rainfly. I ended up putting smaller tents within the tent, room dividers, _taping down the rain fly with industrial strength glue_ (10/10 would _not_ recommend) and eventually tossing all $250 of it in a bag. My latest setup is a pop up cube with a dog door that attaches to a 10x10 pop up canopy. The cube tent is air tight but but the vent on the canopy- and I think, therein, lies my problem. Today it is 90+ and I was able to nap midday in a crisp 77, but only in my pop up sun shade tent completely zipped up with the AC inside. Please keep in mind that I am a 5’4” petite female and sort of had to give up on the giant Coleman. I think I did a lovely job setting it up, but I completely and utterly destroyed that rainfly and I was just too tired to keep trying with it. LSS, the AC is in the cube tent now. Because of your video, I’ve learned I need to cover the top of my canopy to prevent air leakage. I’ve also learned that the units with vents that tile upwards do not work as well- at least, I think I can confirm this. I am constantly trying to invent ways to redirect the air. Could I just ask if anyone knows how important duct work is here? Any advice? I’ve never done anything like this before. Right now I have the duct mostly behind a thermal tarp. Should I consider an in-line fan? Am I supposed to insulate better? *H E L P* Thanks.
the biggest thing is to eliminate the air flow in tent we have an ozark tent that we a/c and it has the whole roof vented we used a tarp to cover the roof vent and keep the air in the tent it works really well its mostly ment for cooling the tent in the evening for when we sleep it does ok during the heat of the day but a tent is hard to cool also we have a 12000 btu unit and we make sure to set the tent in as much shade as we can
I have a 20x10 and tried an a/c unit and it just didnt do. After looking at your video I need to prob go ahead and swith the unit (the vents are at the top) and 2 cover my tent with the tarps. I'll try it this summer and see how it goes! Thanks a lot!!

Only thing you may consider if you have the mesh, instead of a tarp look at a Mylar blanket. Should be about the same price, very lightweight, and designed to reflect heat. Great video.
Very good idea thank you for that. Our tent mansion down not have a mesh top but the 12 man ozark we take sometimes does so it's definitely worth mentioning as most tents sold here have some type of mesh

I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Super nice!! Looks like your enjoying the air beam tents from the UK as much as I am! Nice to see others with these amazing tents! I have 3 air beam tents for large and small setups and I really love them all. The smallest being the Outwell Rosedale 4P and my largest, the 5 person Outdoor Revolution Airdale and the Outwell Airville 4SA with the wing lounge. we will have the vango review out soon i was waiting to see how vango resolved an issue i was having and yes we really enjoy these tents they are amazingly simple to setup and should last a life time compared to the tents that are around here in the states this thing is in a whole different league. we did review a decathalon 4 man tent as well it did not go so well
Works well for us. It's still essentially to do normal tent setup practices like finding a shady spot for the tent as this makes a big difference when it really heats up. Thanks for commenting we really appreciate it. Hopefully this helps you have a better summer camping experience.
Took 48minutes in the Florida Keys this afternoon at curry hammock right now going to shoot an update video as it's nearing 100 degrees and many of our other tent friends said camping with night time temps in the 80s we obviously disagree so our same ac setup is currently being used its high 60s in the tent right now.
Man I have been researching and finally this channel. We are from Florida as well and have a 9x13 core tent and we are planning on traveling more this summer. It's not as heavily insulated as yours. Mine has the mesh with the rain guard. Ours has 2 doors as well as the floor vents w mesh. I was thinking about getting 2 flanges, putting magnets on it so I wouldnt have to cut the mesh. So heres an update, we tried our core tent with a giant silver tarp over it. Even w my 12k AC unit. Still not doing much until the sun starts going down, once off it directly then the AC works like a champ getting down to 68. So I'm trying to figure this out as we love camping here in fla like y'all. We just went this past weekend to myakka and from 2-430 we just had to sit Infront of the AC. I know the walls of the core and Ozark trails are thin. Not sure if I need to downsize our tent if using the thin wall this having less volume of air to have to cool, or if there are better suited insulated tents

I have a Browning Big Horn 2 room tent 10 x15 full mesh top with an 8000 btu portable a/c unit in it. I have done the tarp over the top 2 ways and will tell you that the more of the tent you cover the cooler it will stay sides included. If I just go over the top with the tarp on a 90-degree day I can cool my tent to somewhere around 72-75 degrees but if I completely cover both ends of the tent and the back along with 1/3rd of the front it will easily stay at 65 degrees in 90-degree heat
Yeah I'd agree with that 100 percent also setting the tent up in the shade and mostly we are looking to make it cool at night for sleeping as most of the time you will be out exploring during the day. But a tarp over the tent helps significantly also a thicker material tent makes a big difference. Thanks for the comment and happy 4th
@@seans2876 I put the tarp over the outside of the tent and rain fly stacked it down as close to the tent as I could get it as to keeping out as much hot air as possible. My tent is 10 x15 x7 high so I believe my tarp is 20 x 25. If I just use the tarp over the mesh top which is 12 x 16 I put it under the rain fly and use bungie cords and stakes to stake it down as close to the tent as possible also I do not stake out my rainfly or use the rods over the doors instead I stake the rain fly straight down as close to the tent as I can. I hope this helps the whole idea is to make your tent as air tight as possible. I have thought about getting some thin plastic film and gorrilla tape and actually cutting it to fit the mesh roof panels. Also keep in mind that your tent is made out of breathable fabric so the more you can cover the better it will be if you get it to tight you will get condensation which is not good the solution to that is to loosen up the tarp a bit or zip open a window or 2 slightly

The Honda generators are amazing a little more money but worth the extra cost we actually have a Cummins 3k inverter generator we got a really good deal on it and it seams to work great we also avoid using ethanol fuel and we put a fuel stabilizer in before storing it.
Where did you buy it from? I have searched high and low for the perfect air beam tent. I think outdoor xl out of the Netherlands will ship to the US but not positive

Im thinking to buy a 6000 BTU stand up a/c with an exhaust hose , and using an additional canopy over our 8 man tent might be efficient enough for our North West Florida camping !
6000 should be fine if your just looking to cool the tent at night or late afternoon but I don't think having to much ac is bad I'd personally go with a 10000 BTU unit to be safe don't forget you can turn the ac around even it's cold and it will blow the warm exhaust air in the tent warming it up. We did this before we got our diesel heater

We have had our unit awhile we always like getting items on fb market place I'd check there. Not sure why it's difficult to find the front vent vs the top vents. Question, I have a Kodiak canvas 10x10 tent. Suppose to be airtight and leak free. Just bought an 8000 btu portable ac unit. Do you suggest covering with rain fly and all that or would the canvas tent be enough?
The canvas tent should hold the air fine. The rain fly was mostly for people that have tents that have a mesh top like gazelle or ozark trail. The mesh top is great for ventilation but not for air-conditioning a tent.

Oh by the way You should really consider yourself a pure white tent for this and I’ll tell you why because white tents reflect a lot of sunlight heat keeping the temperature much cooler, and on the other hand, darker coloured tents, absorb more heat, making the temperature much hotter so go with a white tent, it will help the portable AC to cool down, much faster and keep the cold air in there much longer. Also search up why white keeps you colder and you will see. 👍
Hey there if we got a smaller black and decker one for a smaller tent for like 5 people to six people . What kind of jackets portable generator would it need . Do you think it would run on the 300 or 500
Ac units normally draw quite a bit of power. We have run ours on a 2800 inverter generator without any issues it's pretty quiet and uses very little fuel. It's a Cummins with that said if I were going to use a portable power station I would order a current/wattage meter from Amazon it plugs into your wall then you plug your device into it i.e the ac unit it tells you how many watts and amps the particular device is drawing and that should determine how big of a power unit you will need. Great video thanks. How much was that tent? Have you ever considered solar energy? Have you had problems with bugs because of the vent and drain running out of it? Is there a way to seal it better to prevent bugs from getting in? Sorry about all the questions but what you have is exactly the setup I want, great job.
So we have never had any issues with bugs however you could wrap a towel around the hoses near the tent exit and even you zip it up the towel will seal better than just the hoses coming out you could also get some screen material cut a circle in it run the hoses through that hole just make it fit very tight around the hoses and with a little velcro you can attach the screen to the tent and that should also do the trick. As far as your first question the tent was pretty pricey as we had to imported here from great Britain. So after taxes shipping and import tariffs it was close to 3k. This tent is more expensive as it's canvas but it is also very heavy if I had it to do over I would have gone with a non canvas tent something like a vango tahiti. But we honestly love our tent mansion it's been great. Thanks for commenting.

It's an lg unfortunately they don't make that specific model but they are all about the same you just want one with the front ac vent instead of the ones that have it on top pointing up as in a tent situation these work best when you can direct the air right at your particular area and setting up under trees or cover makes a vig difference.
Do you have a review on your tent? Im looking to get an inflatable tent. Ive seen others online but none speak of surviving storms or high winds. Yours looks like it would hold up very nice! What is the brand if this tent?
It's a vango most of the good ones will need to imported here from GB it's a process our tent was around 3k all said and done there are cheap versions but air beam tents can be pricey and after shipping and import fees it's even more costly but we love our tent we should have a full video on this coming out soon going over the pros and cons. If you tent camp oftenly these tents are great
Hey, thanks for the video super helpful just wanted to know I recently purchased one of these AC units and it says you shouldn’t run them on extension cords. What do you think about that? Would it be safe?
We have a 20 Amp extension cord it's a heavy duty one but we have never had an issue just make sure you keep the plugs clean and dry. Most times we can actually pitch the tent in a away that we can plug the ac right into the camp site electrical outlet without the extension cord. But when we can't we use the cord.
We had it imported from great Britain its was the only one in America not sure if that's still true as we have had it more than a year now . But it is an anantara 650xl tc from vango
You could use a smaller ac but I would open a small vent if available we normally have enough leakage in the windows and door for It not to be an issue

So normally we camp at sites with power but it could be fun on a small generator or even a battery power bank a big one like the ac200max and that could be combined with solar to be efficient and quiet
How do you power it I work outside I have like a 10x10 tent enclosed and I need to find a way to power it for like a hours but I have no power outlets plug it in with a portable charging unit work and if so how big of a power unit would I need
so the best way would be a small inverter generator as the wattage required on an a/c is pretty high thus limiting you on how you can power this you could also build a solar setup but that will be pretty pricey a portable power unit would work but it would need to be a large unit like the blueti roll around and those are pretty pricey. the inverter generators are cheap and can be found used they use very little fuel and are quite I will do a video on this next time we have everything set up. i would guess you will need around a 3kw generator to run a typical site. i hoe this helps
We are at a site with water and electric so a basic extension cord for power we are going to try to run one with a solar power station and the unit in the video they don't make any more that's why we Didn't link it but any unit will work similar
You probably want an inverter type generator as they are very quite you'll probably need a 3-3.5k inverter generator to handle your power needs. The other thing you can do is camp at rv sites as they will have power then all you need is extension cords. This is how we do it we rarely run a generator as the sites we camp at have power.
@ParkHopTillWeDrop we'd be using it for alot of trail rides so some of the places would be no water hook up no electricity but we'd also want to be as quiet as possible because close proximity to other campers/horses
Actually the site we were on had power. It's difficult taking a 30ft tent primitive camping but we are working on a 3kw solar power system for our trailer
So most sites here in florida are rv or tent and most have power some have power and water. The primitive sites here are cheaper but most don't have power. You could power this with a large solar generator like a bluetti or jackery box
Yes we use a 12 gauge extension cord with a 3 way splitter on the end it's 50ft never had any issues but you will want to make sure it stays dry on very wet camp trips we have bagged the connector
Facebook market place I knew I wouldn't be treating it really great out camping with it so we didn't really want to buy a brand new one if we could avoid.
I think polyester as it doesn't breath like tc does but most poly tents are heavily vented the tc tents are not vented as much so so either material does good but if you find a non vented poly tent it should work slightly better.

We mostly stay at full hook up sites as this particular tent is a bit big for tent only sites. We honestly prefer power and water sites even when we take our smaller tent as they are still very cheap and you get a better experience. You could also run this on an inverter generator.
Is that an air mattress you use? Or is it a regular mattress? And if air, what brand and model? Im a big guy and need a reliable air mattress for camping.
It's actually a beauty rest pillow top they can be found at Walmart and I'm pretty sure they can support 600lbs they are pretty comfortable and they don't get all soft and soggy during the night you will still need to fill them every few days while camping just to keep the pressure where you want it
You should do a series of videos for “Big men camping” (or women obviously). My husband is a big guy and it’s often hard to figure out what will support/fit him(chairs, cots/mattresses, etc). Often we have to spend hours of research just looking for each thing just for him (on top of the research for the rest of us). Would be very helpful!
We bought it from Facebook market place. For 200 dollars we knew this would only be a unit we used for camping and thus we wanted to spend as little as we could. It's had no issues for the 3 years we have had it

ok so due to the enormous size of our tent we are forced to camp at certain sites with that said we find it easiest when we tent camp at state parks in there rv sites tents are welcome to use the RV sites and with and RV site you get power and sometimes water this makes the a/c set up very easy. so almost all state parks in Florida have power and water sites as well as many KOA's in the area. we have stayed at the KOA in West Palm Beach its at the Lion Country Safari and its fantastic They do have power sites and we have done a video for that as well I can share with you if you want. there are many other state parks in and around that area that offer power sites. now if no power is available you could run this with a small but quite inverter generator You would need around 3kw to power this setup. Are there any free campsites that offer electricity? Probably crazy question, im hopeful. If not, what is the cheapest one u know? I know they're only 8 days at a time. Max. If there is electric i can get a decent plug in ac, picking up a tent tonight, its sealed, no mesh, i have my cat so she'll need ac 100%. Shes 13 and we're inseparable. Found her as a newborn. Im im Deerfield right now with her, la Quinta, but have a dr appointment 2morow morning in Boca Raton and my hope is to settle on a campsite by then or by Wednesday at the latest and go. So, if they have electricity and are free, or really cheap like 115/week, i can pick up a plug on ac for $50/$60 at walmart with the tent no problem. Im in Deerfield/Boca Raton, mesh windows arent an issue regarding the air conditioner. Idk how to use generators, but if they're allowed in the free campsite, if u know a free campsite near me that allows a gas or propane generator ill buy one tonight too cuz i suspect they're cheaper and will last longer, hopefully the 8 days if I'm conservative and use the ac carefully, than the solar panel ones, unless im wrong, lemme know, then ill buy that, the solar panel one, whatever you recommend, ill heed, ill take ur word for it as im a fish in water and will do whatever it takes to stay with my cat. Whatever it takes to keep her with me and keep her comfortable. She's my only family left after covid 19 losses, believe it or not. @@teresadalessio1 so state parks will be the cheapest but there are not many options in Palm Beach area you can also try hi-camp its a site that allows people to rent out a park of there private property to campers They normally allow tents and rv's. to answer your question about the tent camping on RV sites yes in most cases you can tent camp on an RV site we do this almost always there are a few rv parks that don't allow this mostly the ones that do not have onsite restrooms as if your tent camping you would need. as far as the generator goes that is the best option when wanting to tent camp with a/c and no power and inverter generator is what you are looking for as they are quite we recommend contacting the site you are going to for information about generator usage as all sites are different. that koa in west palm does have tent camping sites with power that saves you from needing a generator that might be a good option its also very well shaded on the tent sites. I need some help I got a portable air co futon set up in my tent and I need some help. The air condition is sucking in my tent so I have to open up the some of the screens so my tent doesn’t collapse due to the condition sucking all the air through it. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this😊
Ours sucks the tent in on the sides slightly but nothing crazy we never really worried about it. But if you are concerned about it you could open a vent slightly i.e a window or run a smaller ac. You could also but the ac out side and run a duct from the unit into the tent but that would take a little fabrication work but that would eliminate your problems
@@ParkHopTillWeDrop it’s a 4-5 person moon lance popup up tent. When it’s sucking in the tent it triggers the pop up mechanism and causes the tent to collapse
Our camp sites have power but we have run this on a small generator also could be run on a battery power station with solar if you wanted to be really crafty
no this is an actual a/c unit just like a window unit on its a bit more convenient for some tent users to use than a window unit they sell these at all the different box stores in varying sizes.
I'll get the name brand of it for you when I get home unfortunately I know it's discontinued you can find them used I know but also there are plenty of other front vented portable ac units out there to choose from
We camp at sites with power so it's just a normal 110v plug nothing special but this could be run with a small inverter generator or a portable power station.
How is the noise? I worry about this thing pissing off neighbors, some campsites are just an open field with campers on all sides of you. Although I did just have to put up with barking dogs, kids playing until 1am and cutting through my site so why am I caring lol.
How much does electric cost to run it? I'm in California. Maybe running it 12 hours a day. 70°f not sure about btu yet. Some say all is need is like 5000btu for a 10 person tent. Some people are saying 10¢ an hour to 150$ a day!!! But I think that was for a 12000btu. I'm going to keep my cats in kennels in tent while I work and want it cool for them. Kennels I need to prevent escape and protect from predators. My friends backyard I might be sleeping in has killer dogs.
Really great question and to be honest I don't really know we normally camp at one of the state parks with electric so there's not really an additional charge. I will say the newer ac units are pretty efficient and they are tagged for daily consumption prices when you look at them and they are pretty low I'd say your probably looking at 2-10 dollars per day depending on outside temp it's very hot here in Florida so ours runs almost non stop so outside temp is going to be the biggest fluctuating factor.
I found it's very hard to use ac to cool down a tent. I use 8000BTU in a six people dome tent. I covered heavy duty tarp all around mesh. I can only get 10 degree below the outsider temp which is still around 85 if outside is 95. The Ac can easily cool down a 200ft room. BTW, the tent is set in screened shelter no sun.
we have a 12k unit and if we limit the air flow vents by covering them tightly we can get it pretty cool also we set the tent in a shaded area and run the exhaust vent for the a/c far from the tent. we normally get down between 13-17 degrees in the heat of the day and 20 degrees at night it gets so cold at night someone normally will turn the ac off
This type of portable air conditioner is fundamentally ineffective. The only connection to the exterior is an exhaust. That air must be made up from the interior, then replaced with un-conditioned exterior air. It doesn't matter how well the tent is sealed--exterior air will leak in to make up the difference.
@christya93 we have 110v at the site. We normally just plug an extension cord into the electric panel at the site and run it into the tent but you can get a 30a rv adapter and it takes the 30a plug and turns it into 3 regular 110v plugs

Yeah so we actually have gone over this many times in the comment section we lay out that it could be powered with a power station and replenished with solar if you do desire. We have also run this on our inverter generator it's a 3kw but for the most part we also laid out that our tent is 30ft x 15ft so we don't set it up on primitive sites to often so we personally almost always have power as we camp on rv sites due to our electric needs and tent size

If you buy a brand new unit around 400 bucks but we got ours from Facebook market place used as we figured why bring a brand new ac camping. We paid 100 bucks for ours that was a few years back when prices were not insane so I'm guessing used will be around 200-250 now
@@tommieboi707 yes but only at the single point inflation areas so vango is working with us on a solution but I think I'm just going to convert it to a non single point beam and I don't think we will ever have an issue again
Hey if it's still camping in a camper this is 100 percent still camping it's just when its near 100 degrees in florida most of the year you find ways to still camp but be comfortable. Camping is 100 percent what you make it
So do you ever rough it without all the creature comforts? I live in florida also. I do solo survival camping trips. Generally 5 days. Whatever I can carry on my back. I don't get why you would do this? If this is how you camp. Then why even leave your house? What's the point? To see nature? I guarantee you with all this stuff. Enjoying nature has fell through the cracks at that point.
@floppinfish yeah I don't really understand why you would camp with nothing. See how that conversation goes. Everyone does things differently we enjoy camping we do occasionally camp with out all the extra stuff but mostly in the cooler months we prefer to be comfortable while camping in the summer
It's a vango anantara iii 650xl tc it's the only one in America currently. It's also an air tent meaning it has no poles you inflate it. It's one of our favorite purchases we will have a full review about it soon we were just doing some more testing.
We normally camp at parks that have power so normally we just plug it in to the site but we have run it on our 3k inverter generator it's pretty quiet. You can also run it on a larger power bank but it would need to be a large one not sure how cost effective that is.
The Honda inverter generator are probably the best but are a little more money but we personally have a Cummins inverter generator and I would get one 3000 watts to 4000 watts
So I’m in Florida too and I’ve been working on getting AC in a tent since May! My first set up was a huge 10 person Coleman with a screened porch and a rainfly. I ended up putting smaller tents within the tent, room dividers, _taping down the rain fly with industrial strength glue_ (10/10 would _not_ recommend) and eventually tossing all $250 of it in a bag.
My latest setup is a pop up cube with a dog door that attaches to a 10x10 pop up canopy. The cube tent is air tight but but the vent on the canopy- and I think, therein, lies my problem. Today it is 90+ and I was able to nap midday in a crisp 77, but only in my pop up sun shade tent completely zipped up with the AC inside.
Please keep in mind that I am a 5’4” petite female and sort of had to give up on the giant Coleman. I think I did a lovely job setting it up, but I completely and utterly destroyed that rainfly and I was just too tired to keep trying with it.
LSS, the AC is in the cube tent now. Because of your video, I’ve learned I need to cover the top of my canopy to prevent air leakage. I’ve also learned that the units with vents that tile upwards do not work as well- at least, I think I can confirm this. I am constantly trying to invent ways to redirect the air.
Could I just ask if anyone knows how important duct work is here? Any advice? I’ve never done anything like this before. Right now I have the duct mostly behind a thermal tarp. Should I consider an in-line fan? Am I supposed to insulate better? *H E L P*

the biggest thing is to eliminate the air flow in tent we have an ozark tent that we a/c and it has the whole roof vented we used a tarp to cover the roof vent and keep the air in the tent it works really well its mostly ment for cooling the tent in the evening for when we sleep it does ok during the heat of the day but a tent is hard to cool also we have a 12000 btu unit and we make sure to set the tent in as much shade as we can
Yes, Excellent idea. I have used window unit too, but little bit noisy when my family were going to sleep. So, we used the ear plugs.

Only thing you may consider if you have the mesh, instead of a tarp look at a Mylar blanket. Should be about the same price, very lightweight, and designed to reflect heat. Great video.

Took 48minutes in the Florida Keys this afternoon at curry hammock right now going to shoot an update video as it's nearing 100 degrees and many of our other tent friends said camping with night time temps in the 80s we obviously disagree so our same ac setup is currently being used its high 60s in the tent right now.

Man I have been researching and finally this channel. We are from Florida as well and have a 9x13 core tent and we are planning on traveling more this summer. It's not as heavily insulated as yours. Mine has the mesh with the rain guard. Ours has 2 doors as well as the floor vents w mesh. I was thinking about getting 2 flanges, putting magnets on it so I wouldnt have to cut the mesh. So heres an update, we tried our core tent with a giant silver tarp over it. Even w my 12k AC unit. Still not doing much until the sun starts going down, once off it directly then the AC works like a champ getting down to 68. So I'm trying to figure this out as we love camping here in fla like y'all. We just went this past weekend to myakka and from 2-430 we just had to sit Infront of the AC. I know the walls of the core and Ozark trails are thin. Not sure if I need to downsize our tent if using the thin wall this having less volume of air to have to cool, or if there are better suited insulated tents

I have a Browning Big Horn 2 room tent 10 x15 full mesh top with an 8000 btu portable a/c unit in it. I have done the tarp over the top 2 ways and will tell you that the more of the tent you cover the cooler it will stay sides included. If I just go over the top with the tarp on a 90-degree day I can cool my tent to somewhere around 72-75 degrees but if I completely cover both ends of the tent and the back along with 1/3rd of the front it will easily stay at 65 degrees in 90-degree heat
Yeah I'd agree with that 100 percent also setting the tent up in the shade and mostly we are looking to make it cool at night for sleeping as most of the time you will be out exploring during the day. But a tarp over the tent helps significantly also a thicker material tent makes a big difference. Thanks for the comment and happy 4th

@@seans2876 I put the tarp over the outside of the tent and rain fly stacked it down as close to the tent as I could get it as to keeping out as much hot air as possible. My tent is 10 x15 x7 high so I believe my tarp is 20 x 25. If I just use the tarp over the mesh top which is 12 x 16 I put it under the rain fly and use bungie cords and stakes to stake it down as close to the tent as possible also I do not stake out my rainfly or use the rods over the doors instead I stake the rain fly straight down as close to the tent as I can. I hope this helps the whole idea is to make your tent as air tight as possible. I have thought about getting some thin plastic film and gorrilla tape and actually cutting it to fit the mesh roof panels. Also keep in mind that your tent is made out of breathable fabric so the more you can cover the better it will be if you get it to tight you will get condensation which is not good the solution to that is to loosen up the tarp a bit or zip open a window or 2 slightly

Im thinking to buy a 6000 BTU stand up a/c with an exhaust hose , and using an additional canopy over our 8 man tent might be efficient enough for our North West Florida camping !
6000 should be fine if your just looking to cool the tent at night or late afternoon but I don't think having to much ac is bad I'd personally go with a 10000 BTU unit to be safe don't forget you can turn the ac around even it's cold and it will blow the warm exhaust air in the tent warming it up. We did this before we got our diesel heater

We have had our unit awhile we always like getting items on fb market place I'd check there. Not sure why it's difficult to find the front vent vs the top vents. Question, I have a Kodiak canvas 10x10 tent. Suppose to be airtight and leak free. Just bought an 8000 btu portable ac unit. Do you suggest covering with rain fly and all that or would the canvas tent be enough?
The canvas tent should hold the air fine. The rain fly was mostly for people that have tents that have a mesh top like gazelle or ozark trail. The mesh top is great for ventilation but not for air-conditioning a tent.

Oh by the way You should really consider yourself a pure white tent for this and I’ll tell you why because white tents reflect a lot of sunlight heat keeping the temperature much cooler, and on the other hand, darker coloured tents, absorb more heat, making the temperature much hotter so go with a white tent, it will help the portable AC to cool down, much faster and keep the cold air in there much longer. Also search up why white keeps you colder and you will see. 👍
Hey there if we got a smaller black and decker one for a smaller tent for like 5 people to six people . What kind of jackets portable generator would it need . Do you think it would run on the 300 or 500
Ac units normally draw quite a bit of power. We have run ours on a 2800 inverter generator without any issues it's pretty quiet and uses very little fuel. It's a Cummins with that said if I were going to use a portable power station I would order a current/wattage meter from Amazon it plugs into your wall then you plug your device into it i.e the ac unit it tells you how many watts and amps the particular device is drawing and that should determine how big of a power unit you will need. Great video thanks. How much was that tent? Have you ever considered solar energy? Have you had problems with bugs because of the vent and drain running out of it? Is there a way to seal it better to prevent bugs from getting in? Sorry about all the questions but what you have is exactly the setup I want, great job.
So we have never had any issues with bugs however you could wrap a towel around the hoses near the tent exit and even you zip it up the towel will seal better than just the hoses coming out you could also get some screen material cut a circle in it run the hoses through that hole just make it fit very tight around the hoses and with a little velcro you can attach the screen to the tent and that should also do the trick. As far as your first question the tent was pretty pricey as we had to imported here from great Britain. So after taxes shipping and import tariffs it was close to 3k. This tent is more expensive as it's canvas but it is also very heavy if I had it to do over I would have gone with a non canvas tent something like a vango tahiti. But we honestly love our tent mansion it's been great. Thanks for commenting.

It's an lg unfortunately they don't make that specific model but they are all about the same you just want one with the front ac vent instead of the ones that have it on top pointing up as in a tent situation these work best when you can direct the air right at your particular area and setting up under trees or cover makes a vig difference.

It's a vango most of the good ones will need to imported here from GB it's a process our tent was around 3k all said and done there are cheap versions but air beam tents can be pricey and after shipping and import fees it's even more costly but we love our tent we should have a full video on this coming out soon going over the pros and cons. We have a 20 Amp extension cord it's a heavy duty one but we have never had an issue just make sure you keep the plugs clean and dry. Most times we can actually pitch the tent in a away that we can plug the ac right into the camp site electrical outlet without the extension cord. But when we can't we use the cord.

so the best way would be a small inverter generator as the wattage required on an a/c is pretty high thus limiting you on how you can power this you could also build a solar setup but that will be pretty pricey a portable power unit would work but it would need to be a large unit like the blueti roll around and those are pretty pricey. the inverter generators are cheap and can be found used they use very little fuel and are quite I will do a video on this next time we have everything set up. i would guess you will need around a 3kw generator to run a typical site. i hoe this helps
How do you keep critters out from where you have the opening for the exhaust?
Normally the zipper will close up pretty tight around the hoses but we will also use a towl to take up any space left behind

You probably want an inverter type generator as they are very quite you'll probably need a 3-3.5k inverter generator to handle your power needs. The other thing you can do is camp at rv sites as they will have power then all you need is extension cords. This is how we do it we rarely run a generator as the sites we camp at have power.
@ParkHopTillWeDrop we'd be using it for alot of trail rides so some of the places would be no water hook up no electricity but we'd also want to be as quiet as possible because close proximity to other campers/horses

Yes we use a 12 gauge extension cord with a 3 way splitter on the end it's 50ft never had any issues but you will want to make sure it stays dry on very wet camp trips we have bagged the connector

I think polyester as it doesn't breath like tc does but most poly tents are heavily vented the tc tents are not vented as much so so either material does good but if you find a non vented poly tent it should work slightly better.

It's actually a beauty rest pillow top they can be found at Walmart and I'm pretty sure they can support 600lbs they are pretty comfortable and they don't get all soft and soggy during the night you will still need to fill them every few days while camping just to keep the pressure where you want it

You should do a series of videos for “Big men camping” (or women obviously). My husband is a big guy and it’s often hard to figure out what will support/fit him(chairs, cots/mattresses, etc). Often we have to spend hours of research just looking for each thing just for him (on top of the research for the rest of us). Would be very helpful!

We bought it from Facebook market place. For 200 dollars we knew this would only be a unit we used for camping and thus we wanted to spend as little as we could. It's had no issues for the 3 years we have had it

ok so due to the enormous size of our tent we are forced to camp at certain sites with that said we find it easiest when we tent camp at state parks in there rv sites tents are welcome to use the RV sites and with and RV site you get power and sometimes water this makes the a/c set up very easy. so almost all state parks in Florida have power and water sites as well as many KOA's in the area. we have stayed at the KOA in West Palm Beach its at the Lion Country Safari and its fantastic They do have power sites and we have done a video for that as well I can share with you if you want. there are many other state parks in and around that area that offer power sites. now if no power is available you could run this with a small but quite inverter generator You would need around 3kw to power this setup. So, if they have electricity and are free, or really cheap like 115/week, i can pick up a plug on ac for $50/$60 at walmart with the tent no problem. Im in Deerfield/Boca Raton, mesh windows arent an issue regarding the air conditioner. Idk how to use generators, but if they're allowed in the free campsite, if u know a free campsite near me that allows a gas or propane generator ill buy one tonight too cuz i suspect they're cheaper and will last longer, hopefully the 8 days if I'm conservative and use the ac carefully, than the solar panel ones, unless im wrong, lemme know, then ill buy that, the solar panel one, whatever you recommend, ill heed, ill take ur word for it as im a fish in water and will do whatever it takes to stay with my cat. Whatever it takes to keep her with me and keep her comfortable. She's my only family left after covid 19 losses, believe it or not. @@teresadalessio1 so state parks will be the cheapest but there are not many options in Palm Beach area you can also try hi-camp its a site that allows people to rent out a park of there private property to campers They normally allow tents and rv's. to answer your question about the tent camping on RV sites yes in most cases you can tent camp on an RV site we do this almost always there are a few rv parks that don't allow this mostly the ones that do not have onsite restrooms as if your tent camping you would need. as far as the generator goes that is the best option when wanting to tent camp with a/c and no power and inverter generator is what you are looking for as they are quite we recommend contacting the site you are going to for information about generator usage as all sites are different. that koa in west palm does have tent camping sites with power that saves you from needing a generator that might be a good option its also very well shaded on the tent sites. I need some help I got a portable air co futon set up in my tent and I need some help. The air condition is sucking in my tent so I have to open up the some of the screens so my tent doesn’t collapse due to the condition sucking all the air through it. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this😊
Ours sucks the tent in on the sides slightly but nothing crazy we never really worried about it. But if you are concerned about it you could open a vent slightly i.e a window or run a smaller ac. You could also but the ac out side and run a duct from the unit into the tent but that would take a little fabrication work but that would eliminate your problems

@animemuse8613 what kind of tent is it seems like it would need to be pretty loose on the poles or sealed better than any tent I've seen so far
@@ParkHopTillWeDrop it’s a 4-5 person moon lance popup up tent. When it’s sucking in the tent it triggers the pop up mechanism and causes the tent to collapse
How do you prevent dampness and condensation?
The ac also works as a dehumidifier so it does work to pull the moisture out of the tent we haven't really had any issues with condensation

Our camp sites have power but we have run this on a small generator also could be run on a battery power station with solar if you wanted to be really crafty
Im confused how does this differ from a evaporative cooler is this one similar to a window ac unit ?
no this is an actual a/c unit just like a window unit on its a bit more convenient for some tent users to use than a window unit they sell these at all the different box stores in varying sizes.
Evaporative coolerw run on water and can only cool a VERY slight amount.
These run on coolant and get much colder air out :)

Really depends on how well sealed the tent is but in most cases I would say no way

How do you keep things from getting damp at night?
We have never had any issue while running the ac as it's pulling the moisture out atleast a little

I'll get the name brand of it for you when I get home unfortunately I know it's discontinued you can find them used I know but also there are plenty of other front vented portable ac units out there to choose from
Can you show us you power set up
We camp at sites with power so it's just a normal 110v plug nothing special but this could be run with a small inverter generator or a portable power station.
How is the noise? I worry about this thing pissing off neighbors, some campsites are just an open field with campers on all sides of you. Although I did just have to put up with barking dogs, kids playing until 1am and cutting through my site so why am I caring lol.
It's quieter than an rv ac we can barely hear it out side the tent running the ac has never been an issue
How much does electric cost to run it? I'm in California. Maybe running it 12 hours a day. 70°f not sure about btu yet. Some say all is need is like 5000btu for a 10 person tent. Some people are saying 10¢ an hour to 150$ a day!!! But I think that was for a 12000btu. I'm going to keep my cats in kennels in tent while I work and want it cool for them. Kennels I need to prevent escape and protect from predators. My friends backyard I might be sleeping in has killer dogs.
Really great question and to be honest I don't really know we normally camp at one of the state parks with electric so there's not really an additional charge. I will say the newer ac units are pretty efficient and they are tagged for daily consumption prices when you look at them and they are pretty low I'd say your probably looking at 2-10 dollars per day depending on outside temp it's very hot here in Florida so ours runs almost non stop so outside temp is going to be the biggest fluctuating factor.
I found it's very hard to use ac to cool down a tent. I use 8000BTU in a six people dome tent. I covered heavy duty tarp all around mesh. I can only get 10 degree below the outsider temp which is still around 85 if outside is 95. The Ac can easily cool down a 200ft room. BTW, the tent is set in screened shelter no sun.
we have a 12k unit and if we limit the air flow vents by covering them tightly we can get it pretty cool also we set the tent in a shaded area and run the exhaust vent for the a/c far from the tent. we normally get down between 13-17 degrees in the heat of the day and 20 degrees at night it gets so cold at night someone normally will turn the ac off
This type of portable air conditioner is fundamentally ineffective. The only connection to the exterior is an exhaust. That air must be made up from the interior, then replaced with un-conditioned exterior air. It doesn't matter how well the tent is sealed--exterior air will leak in to make up the difference.

What kind of generator are you running with that a/c unit?
We have a Cummins 2800 inverter generator but this particular set up we were at a site with power

@christya93 we have 110v at the site. We normally just plug an extension cord into the electric panel at the site and run it into the tent but you can get a 30a rv adapter and it takes the 30a plug and turns it into 3 regular 110v plugs

You would have to order it from the UK as they don't sell them in the United States its kinda a process the tent is amazing but also very pricey around 2500 us by the time we got it here currently I believe this is still the only 2021 anantara 650xl Tc in America. Thanks for commenting.

It's an lg but you just want to get one with front facing vents not the top facing vents and 10k btu and up for tents seem to be a good spot

Yeah so we actually have gone over this many times in the comment section we lay out that it could be powered with a power station and replenished with solar if you do desire. We have also run this on our inverter generator it's a 3kw but for the most part we also laid out that our tent is 30ft x 15ft so we don't set it up on primitive sites to often so we personally almost always have power as we camp on rv sites due to our electric needs and tent size

If you buy a brand new unit around 400 bucks but we got ours from Facebook market place used as we figured why bring a brand new ac camping. We paid 100 bucks for ours that was a few years back when prices were not insane so I'm guessing used will be around 200-250 now

Yes it did go through customs it took what seemed like forever

@@tommieboi707 yes but only at the single point inflation areas so vango is working with us on a solution but I think I'm just going to convert it to a non single point beam and I don't think we will ever have an issue again

We did but it's not recommend. We do have a very heavy duty extension cord we have never had any issue

At what point does it stop being camping and become temporarily moving?
Hey if it's still camping in a camper this is 100 percent still camping it's just when its near 100 degrees in florida most of the year you find ways to still camp but be comfortable. Camping is 100 percent what you make it
So do you ever rough it without all the creature comforts? I live in florida also. I do solo survival camping trips. Generally 5 days. Whatever I can carry on my back. I don't get why you would do this? If this is how you camp. Then why even leave your house? What's the point? To see nature? I guarantee you with all this stuff. Enjoying nature has fell through the cracks at that point.
@floppinfish yeah I don't really understand why you would camp with nothing. See how that conversation goes. Everyone does things differently we enjoy camping we do occasionally camp with out all the extra stuff but mostly in the cooler months we prefer to be comfortable while camping in the summer

It's a vango anantara iii 650xl tc it's the only one in America currently. It's also an air tent meaning it has no poles you inflate it. It's one of our favorite purchases we will have a full review about it soon we were just doing some more testing.

We normally camp at parks that have power so normally we just plug it in to the site but we have run it on our 3k inverter generator it's pretty quiet. You can also run it on a larger power bank but it would need to be a large one not sure how cost effective that is.

Tents we have are just not sealed well enough to have any issues honestly no tent we have ever seen was sealed well enough
make sure you use a nicer duty extension cord, these are like plugging a space heater on a extension cord. fire fire fire fire!

No our sites normally have power but we have fun it with a generator also could be done with a battery power station
