i think this is one of helena bonham carter’s most understated roles, especially in a burton film. and i think that highlights just what a good performance this was. she says very little and fulfills a very small role, but she did a really good job at it, especially conveying that she enjoys candy as much as her son does and wants him to win the ticket. i think she balances the “good mom” and just a touch of harmless selfishness in a very winning way
She is really good. You see she truly cares about her son, and when the ticket is not there, she is sad for him, but happy and proud and loving that he still remains a good boy and turns the yet another case of bad luck for this family into something nice for all of them. It really makes me teary eyed, these family scenes in this film. They're so poor and good hearted still, you 'd have to be dead on the inside to not feel for them.

There’s a little boy in my neighborhood who always wakes up at 4 am to help their parents sell bread before going to school. My niece always shares her food with us, once I bought her a cake and she waited till her parents came home from work to eat it together. Charlie and other kids like him are just raised properly.
I think it's more because people have trouble relating to this Charlie. It's very rare to see kids like that in real life, so something about this doesn't seem very human or realistic. And besides, the original Charlie was nice too, but he still had moments where he wasn't a sweet little angel, showing that he is still a relatable yet sweet kid.

I really enjoyed Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's version, the actor, David Kelly fits all of his characteristics, personality, etc perfectly! It really does make him look like a senior who is in a financial crisis with the family, everything about him is just a joy to watch and hear, I am really depressed about what happened to him back in 2012

They're so poor, yet still take care their both parents (charlie's grandparents). Great character, rare values nowadays.
Charlie is literally the ultimate perfect kid he has now defects he is nice he is not spoiled and neither greedy but like said he is a kid so maybe in adolescence he'll change.
Based on the sounds of Charlie breaking the chocolate into pieces, its sounded like a god damn good chocolate. My culinary teacher got this giant slab of chocolate for us to use on Valentine's day for Strawberries, and we knew as soon as she took a knife to it, its sounded expensive and delicious
Charlie deserves the world.
Charlie puts his family before him and Charlie isn't greedy, spoiled, stuck-up, nor is he always stuffing his face with candy/food despite him and his family not have anything to eat expect eating cabbage soup every morning and night.
Charlie's really generous of having his grandfather telling him stories of Willy Wonka's career from a small candy store to where Wonka is now.
This movie had it's high energy moments but also such relaxing scenes like these. I used to live to watch this before bed every night
