Sorry, I'm incorrect ... I confused 3 to the x, all squared, with 3 to the x squared ... my fault!

Confused ... in the original problem, why is 3 to the x squared not equal to 9 to the x? That would make the numerator and denominator the same, and the problem would be true for all values of x.
