The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
    Side trivia:
    1. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish.
    2. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster, but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.

He stopped when Beni spoke Hebrew because he called it "The language of the slaves" based on the biblical story of moses and how the hebrew isrealites were enslaved by the egyptians. And the bugs and everything that kept happening were based on the biblical plagues that struck egypt during the atory of moses

Young children in America usually call their parents mommy and daddy. But as they get older, they shorten it to mom or dad. Black Americans do they same, but we also say mama, pops (dad). It just depends on the person, really.

Brendan Fraser's character (the hero) is also an American in the story (not British). The heroine and her brother are British.

See when Beni was found by Imhotep in fear he pulling out all those religious symbols/charms and started quoting I believe scripts or prayers from each one. Then he pulled out the Star of David and quotes a verse from the Book of Psalms in Hebrew. Imhotep stops and says something like "the language of the slaves. You may of some use to me". This is due to the fact that they was slaves to the Egyptians for about 300-400 years.

Stephen Sommer, who directed The Mummy (and The Mummy Returns, which I recommend) also directed another movie based on the Universal Monster Movies of old, Van Helsing. I absolutely recommend it. Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale are great, and you might even recognize the guy who plays Beni as a support character.

According to iMDB and Wikipedia, her mom is indigenous Venezuelan while her dad is a mestizo, which literally means “mixed”, of European and indigenous. So Patricia Velasquez might as well be pure Venezuelan.

Hello TLG Movie Kids!😊 They really had a hard time making The Mummy scary in the old black & white Universal Picture films. The Mummy would move very slow and be wrapped in bandages. This film and the next one are very good. The third film is not as good in my opinion. They recast Evie (Rachel Weisz) in that film. Great reactions to this very well made Mummy film, Kids!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Hebrew is not that similar to Egyptian, but if you believe the Bible, there was a large group of Hebrews who lived in the land of Egypt and then later escaped.

You guys talked over the whole opening scene narration which explained everything going on, and kept saying "what is this what is that i dont understand whats happening".
Yes, its a movie reaction which involves talking, but generallybwhen there is a voiceover at the start of a movie, it is telling you important info and setting up the story. If you didnt do the random chatter and had just listened to the voiceover, he explains everything that happens. Theres no need to be confused. Just listen :)
Again, i know you need to react- but its also ok to just listen at times, and also its good to try to get your comments in in between the dia I ogue, not over it. That way you dont miss major plot points, ect.

In America we use both Father and Dad. I don't know how it happened, but I've come to associate the word Father with a man who had children, but is not really a comprehensive part of their children's lives. Father sounds like how a rich kid would address a parent. Dad always felt like a much more proper name for involved and loving parent. Mom and Dad as opposed to Mother and Father.
