I remember these songs so well it brings tears to my eyes when I do. For those few months back in 2010, when I was 11, that we spent rehearsing this and finally performing it, this musical was my life, and to an extent my childhood. I remember also being backstage and hearing songs like 'Notice Me, Horton', 'Alone in the Universe' and 'Solla Solew' and really wanting to tear up and cry, but I restrained myself knowing that if I did cry, and rub my face clean of the tears, all the Cat makeup I wore would come off, lol. These songs have such an emotional, heartwarming magic to them that sets this musical above any I've done since.
At our first reading, the guy who plays Horton just screamed “NOTICE ME, HORTON” right at the beginning of this and we all started cracking up XD the person playing Gertrude was having so much fun!
lol when I did the musical we had to audition for Gertrude and at 102 103 the guys would all say it counting on they're fingers to cue us and idk why but it was really funny

Did this in HS in 06. Pit, with my closest friends. Boy was this fun compared to normal band music. This song has no trumpet so I was probably admiring Gertrude's costume design or picturing the chords of the song on a keyboard. One of the best in the play.
During a practice of Notice Me, Horton, while they were on stage, our Cat and Mazie went up on the bridge we had made for some characters to be seen in the back and acted along in an over-dramatic way because Gertrude and Horton had been told they weren't acting enough. Gertrude saw them on the bridge and had to do her best not to laugh and keep going but HORTON WHEN THE WHOLE SONG NOT NOTICING A THING! He said he didn't even realize that Gertrude was trying to to laugh! XD

She wasn't happy with herself, so she changed things that were perfectly fine to begin with, and then realized she didn't need to be the same as everyone to be beautiful, she was special in her own way. It took me long enough to realize that I'm not like everyone else for a reason(: It would be an honor to play this role, I hope I get the opportunity, wish me luck!(:

Meaning, she was hand-picked to be Gertrude, and the music tells you to sing that low.Gertrude is supposed to be more in the soprano range, yes, but it really helps to have a low range, too. I can sing both soprano and alto, and I got Gertrude in my school's version of this musical. =)

I went to see Wicked and some of the notes were different from the original cast recordings of them because the actresses weren't able to hit the high notes with enough power, so they lowered the notes.
