This is hands down THE best video on youtube covering these HP mini desktops!
My highest respect goes to your understanding of a productive work environment: a nice belgian beer. cheers mate. :D
I have the Elitedesk 800 G1 w/ i7 and love it! Older but still kicks ass speed wise
My 800 g1 came with a 4590t. You telling me i can pop a desktop i7 in this??
@@ohlmntt look up similar procs....35W to 45w max.... there are some Xeons that will work too... I plan on getting a E3-1275L V3 one of these days
Excellent, very informative, user friendly and awesome video. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work. Great example of the best and great effort.
Bought 6 of those for work. They ran without any hiccups for six months then two of them had some sort of failure with power distribution. Not the power brick though. HP took all 6 back and I got Lenovo Tiny instead.
Man, thank you so much for comparassion of all hp desctop mini lineup! That was very helpfull!
I got an Elitedesk 800 G4 for 73USD delivered. G4 was the first with 2x M2 2280 slots. (Old Dell don’t have). TrueNAS Scale dragonfish, M2 6x SATA & M2 E key 2x SATA in WiFi slot. Running with top cover off. It’s pretty good with the 8500T 6 core, but not really enough cores for virtualisation. Low power 35W running on 19.5v derived from 24v solar; along with a Dell 3020 Kubernetes & HP 620t lower power AMD web server
the sizes are ( starting from the small one in the video and moving to next bigger .. etc ) mini, small form factor, mini tower
GOD the elitedesk 705 g4 is a champion. Never got so much bang for my buck on a pc for such a cheap price.
good to hear that they are not noisy! +1 for demos 👍
All of these SFF that use BLOWERS are noisy!!
To use a 65Watt i7 HP supplies a bigger psu brick, about 120W. It won’t work with the 65W psu as supplied for the 35W T
I bought 10 Dell setups, and last black friday I bought all the upgrades ram ssds and m.2's to use as workstations to a file server they were all i3 I changed them all out to i7's I didn't think about a heat sink for the M.2's thanks
I have the ProDesk 405 G4. The 405 has an AMD CPU compared to Intel. The GPU performance is 2x better on the AMD (at least until HP upgrade these with 11th Gen Intel's Xe Graphics), and the CPU performance is similar. Do check that one out.
I do hate how annoying the fan gets. It's like a typical laptop fan but this one spins up and down constantly. I think it is more about the frequency rather than the decibels.
my main concern with these HP units are noise, some even have 2 fans. Which ones are quiet and have NVME?
@@puppy_BYTEjust got one from EBay G4, it is loud. Not sure what to do now.
Was just looking at getting a M900 Tiny to mess around with. What a coincidence.
Careful what CPUs it supports. That's the most important thing you should look at.
Awesome review man 👍
Great video. I know time has passed but I figured I would try. I noticed you brought up thermal paste. I just picked up a 800 G4 i5/256 nvme for $250. Super stoked. It's less than 2 years old. Would you recommend changing the thermal paste? If so what would you use?
mind sharing where you got that deal? :-)

Really great underrated sleeper computers
very informative. great video. does the fan kick in often, how load is it when running 4k videos
Does it even have a fan?
The bracket for the SATA driver comes with a separate fan for additional cooling. Should you have bought a model with the SATA and fan bracker, the case top has holes holes to facilitate air flow and prevent the second fan causing a vacuum which would choke the CPU cooler. If you can source a 2.5" bracket with fan, just drill some holes in the top of the case.
Thanks for the video, this is really helpful! Just wanted to ask about the noise level, I'm really looking for a mini pc that is as quiet as it can be, I know there are the Silent-pc models and some newer NUCs now which are fanless. My budget is low & I've been offered this HP prodesk 400 g4 with i5 8500T. I was previously looking at NUCs as I know they can be re-housed into heatsink cases like the akasa ones, so I thought if the fan noise turned out to be annoying I could buy a heatsink case for it instead. But these HP ones can't be re-housed, is that correct? So I need to be sure it's quiet enough for me (I have chronic migraine & high pitched fan noise really grates into me somehow).
So.. is it really quiet unless I'm pushing it hard? Is a comparable NUC or Dell 3060 any quieter?
Thanks so much for your thoughts 😊
I have a HP prodesk 400 g4 with i5 8500T It isn't fanless, but it is very very quiet.
Have a I3 7100T HP PRODESK 400 G3. Great little PC as a Jellyfin client, but cannot render 4K AV1.
Thanks for this video! Any issues with overheating of sustained streaming and recording at the same time in OBS? Any throttling of the CPU?
No issues!
No, but the FAN noise in these machines is, well... annoying!!
Great video! Which Dell or Lenovo ones are comparable?
That model is the Tiny...the Mini is the larger mini ATX form factor
According to the support document on the official HP website, I only saw that the CPU on this particular model only goes up to the Intel Core i7-8700 processor. How do you know that you could fit the 8086 in it? Just curious how you've come to this conclusion.
Nice vídeo. You got i new subscriber
Do you happen to have a spec on the Mobo they use? I'm looking to custom mod my cooler, and need a 3 screw solution to deploy! Thanks for the great video!
LMAO this guy says it cant play games ,all my friends and i installed steam on these exact school machines, and it runs CSGO at full res 122-144 FPS! league of leagends at 218 FPS!1080p high , these internal gpu are surprising us,lol, is it gonna run witcher at 4k 60 with mods no! ,but 55 fps on medium is good to me, and runs photo editing/animation software fast. But you just reminded me of emulation well test that out tomarrow at lunch.
how im only getting 60 fps on lol. lmao
And the NUC 8 is EVEN BETTER, because it has INTEL IRIS 655 GPU, not the HD 630!
Does it run Destiny 2 well at all?
@@Ne0Z33D no, don't even think about it
Good discussion of this PC. This unit is definitely great but I really get tired of HP changing their ultra proprietary screws with every new case design. Good luck finding screws to mount the 2.5 SATA drives in the funky "slide/swing lock" bracket. HP way over engineers the most basic stuff like mounting a hard drive. Contrast that with DELL's ultra easy tool-less plastic tray caddies.
Is there anyways to reduce the noise? Just got one from eBay, much appreciated
Mine is super quiet. Only thing you can hear is the hdd
Just bought an elitedesk 800 G4 i7 for $35 at a yard sale! It only has displayports tho :/
That's OK, displayport can be adapted into anything else.
Hi. Im thinking between Mini and SFF with Pentium or Core i3/i5 but my main concern is noise. Isnt it better to go SFF for better cooling?. THanks!
Thinking this might would make for a good openwrt box ......... only issue is I would need to add two external antennas for the AP. As for internet I would be using the AirPrime EM7565 LTE-Advanced Pro Module installed in a USB3.0 To NGFF M.2 Key B Adapter Enclosure With SIM Card Slot.
Is it possible to underclock the cpu?
Do you know if you can buy a flex board that adds another Ethernet port? This would be awesome as a pfsense router.
Do you know what model / brand that name heatsink is? Thanks
I like it, wanted to buy 1, for tv. You can use the USB 2 at back, plug in a cable that has a connector to a small fan that you can put in the case to blow air flow. Are those M.2 slots pcie 4? Wish they would put on board gddr5/6 ram for gpu to utilize, even 2gb, would make world of difference.
Pcie 3 on those 8+9th gen Intels
Since a few days i do have a prodesk 600 G4 i5 8500. I love it. it is silent.it is fast. it uses less power. The only thing i am not sure about is the temperature of the ssd disk. When i work with the PC the temperature of the harddisk goes to 58%. Not higher. Is that Oke, or is that too high? By the way. i love the review!!
58c is high but not worrying. If you have a nvme ssd you can add a heat sink.
Great Video.
Did you add fresh paste? How dirty was the fan and inside? trying to get 2 from an auction
clean and remove old paste, and add new paste. Don't just add to the old junk that's there.
how to connect this device with a laptop? I checked many similar videos on youtube, no video review this.
Why would you connect it to a laptop? makes zero sense
will u please help, im having an error when i open my g4 mini. it always sound like 3 long beep and 4 short beep. no on screen also. thx
What do you use the other one for in your rack??
Nice video. Does anyone know whether the 2.5" drive bay in these supports 15mm tall drives (i.e. any HDD over 2TB)?
Hi! I recently bought a prodesk g4 400 mini (i7 8700t) and I was wondering if is normal that the case get warmer more than anything on the cpu and fan zone and also on the bottom of the case. Thanks!!
It's normal. You have a high performance CPU in a small chassis. Just keep an eye on temps, if they are around 45C idle or 80C load that's normal.
Where do i connect my external speakers ? I do not see a rear 3.5mm plug. Can i just plug them in to rear by purchasing a female 3.5mm to usb male adapter ? Might that work ?
Thanks ! Love your videos.
Use an Appledac!

Can i upgrade my CPU to i7 8700. not the T one. I have 600 G5 and it runs on i5 9500T. Thanks
ryzen 5 2400ge can run 64gb of ram .but hp closed ram for 32!!!! for this model .
can any body test this cpu in g4 with amd ryzen 5 pro 2400ge can run 64 or 48 gb ram with new bios ?
plz upgrade your bios .
Beer+1
Can you add gpu for this?
Hi are you familiar to HP MP9 G4?
Nope.
Does this play 4k HDR youtube? I tried it on mine and it constantly has 100% 3D Usage in UHD630. Tried i on 2 different pcs with the same 8500t and its the same.
I don't have any problems with that.
@@JDMWAAAT thank you for your reply. Could you please share the driver version and the windows 10 build number? Did you just install the driver from HP website or let Windows install automatically?
Tighten presentation please
OS?
This hardware is Windows 11 capable I have tried it already.
Can you fit an NMVE SSD and an HDD in the HP G4 400?
Yep.
Theoretically I I could add 2 NMVE? And HDD? So then a fan is mandatory. I would like to get such opportunities with two different OS in each NVMEs. Or I'm dreaming too much? 😂
What I have the is prodesk 600 mini g2. Its my main computer at home and use it to play dota 2 in lowest setting and getting around 60-90 fps with its intel hd 530. I plan on buying an egpu adapter which connects to the m.2 nvme port, i wonder if anyone have tried that and if it worked.
Just did it on a 600 g1. Worked perfect 👍
I see there is a Ryzen 2400GE version for a little over 3 hundred, what do you all think of that one?
I would prefer the 8th-gen i5's at the same price. They are faster, support quicksync, and run a little cooler.
@@JDMWAAAT I understand. This is a valid point.
i own 800 g5 DM 35W and it is capable of 2k HDR via DP
on G5 modular connector may be configured as: HDMI, VGA, DP, COM, GPU (AMD, and you loose 2.5'' disk bay), Fiber NIC
95W CPU in case like that makes a little sense, as there is no sufficient cooling (95W cooler takes whole top (no GPU, no 2.5HDD). Stick either to 65 or 35W. If you really need "K" CPU go with SFF or normal ATX sized Tower.
What is better when comparing to nuc is the NBD ON-SITE warranty, yay. No sending back, no delivery times etc. and ofc warranty is 3yrs GLOBAL :D
got my elitedesk 800 g3 for $50 with no storage lol
lucky bastard. paid $114 for my 705 g4
damn this is small factor ....! wonder how much dust it will collect until choking up itself LoL!
You can keep the dust out with a piece of duct tape. IDK why no one else knows this.
These are all Mac Mini copycats - except that they run Excel in a SUPERIOR fashion!
ugh.....
UGH.....
You talk as if this is REALLY important stuff
Ok?
