    The Soo Line 1003 is a 2-8-2 Mikado type steam engine that was donated by the Soo Line Railroad to the city of Superior, Wisconsin in 1959. Rebuilt in 1996 by the Wisconsin Railway Preservation Trust, the 1003 was once again under steam and ready to roll. This video features all of the exciting action of its inaugural season including: Fall break-in runs on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, Duluth to Two Harbors tourist train on the NSSR, Shuttle trip across Wisconsin over former Soo Line trackage - includes some freight scenes with a caboose, Osceola to New Richmond passenger trip over the St. Croix River high bridge, The 1003 double heading with the Northern Pacific #328 on the WC’s Dresser line, Soo Line Historical Society Convention train out of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Plus a few SOO, UP, DM&IR, and WC freight trains.

    Soo Line rr engines 1003 and 2719 are some of my favorite surviving examples of Midwestern USA steam power.

    It sure surprises me that during the first few years 1003 saw use following its return to steam in 1996 it saw use on excursions, but around the mid-2000s to the present day, it only sees use on photo charters and the Santa trains.

    If you didn't see it yesterday she broke down and had a gasket replaced. Then finished the day under her own power. Ken has one hell of a team and so is WSOR . What a fun day it was chasing it!

      Thank you for watching. We're from Altoona, WI and it's right next to Eau Claire, WI. Is Eau Claire your last name? Either way pretty neat :)

      @@pletsexpress yes indeed, Eau Claire is the real last name, the spelling actually derives from the city. I missed getting to see 2719 at Eau Claire in the past, but I did manage to see 4014 there

    2:38 which WC Train Symbol is that and where did it run between

    • @pletsexpress
      @pletsexpress  Před 3 lety +1

      That Scene is at Owen, WI - WC MP 308.5 (JCT with WC's Minneapolis Sub). The 1003 is shuttling to Osceola, WI for excursion operations on the Osceola and St. Croix Railroad. As far as the exact WC train symbol you asked about I'm not sure but when I get back from my road trip in Pittsburgh I'll look into it and see if I can find an answer for you. The WC freight you see is a Northbound from Stevens Point to South Itasca WI ( 205.7 Mile trip). Thank you for watching and subscribing Zach
