May I just say here that Surannes' timing on the show is just exquisite! Every face, every eyebrow lift, every line, every scene is just magical! And that deadpanning to the camera got me every time! And Sophie Rundles' performance is just the catalyst to spur Surannes' affections! She's just the sweetest, gentlest & loveliest character! Love the show & what incredible talent!
I am from halifax and been visiting Shibden Hall for 50 years. I specifically remember in the early 1990’s seeing Helena Whitbread at Shibden for a talk and a small reenactment of a small part of Anne’s life which was attended by no more than 10-15 people. Today probably a football stadium wouldn’t be big enough to house such a gathering. It is there i bought my first book ‘I know my own heart’ i have literally read the pages off of it. I was always amazed by the diary’s and could relate it to her travels around halifax and wider a field. I could of never imagined it hitting the screens but so glad it has. Suranne playing the perfect part with Sophie. You can see that there is a love between these two actress’s. There both an absolute credit to the memory of Anne lister, Ann Walker and all who was concerned within there lives
@Lyn 5 I saw a clip of Sophie trundle with a American accent and it bout messed me up..weird hearing her American accent would never know she was english
I'm absolutely blown away by Suranne's portrayal of Anne Lister! A real tour de force performance! Great cast, witty dialogue and beautifully filmed! UNMISSABLE!!
Hmm..i just finished watched all the episodes twice again during pandemic covid quarantine..i'm personally very addicted with Surane Gentleman Jack portray Anne Lister loving Ann Walker..very beautiful.love story
As someone who's been with a person who had chronic mental and emotional challenges, I can absolutely relate who what she's saying here. It can be so hard and exhausting. Even with love and the best of intentions, it doesn't always work out. I appreciate that the show didn't shy away from this, and we can see Anne, who is very strong, have her doubts and falter. I'm so glad they were able to get together in the end, but I think season 2 will continue to show us those challenges in their relationship and likely won't just sweep Ann's mental state under the carpet. More kudos to everyone involved for portraying this complex relationship.
Pour moi Suzanne Jones mérite un Golden Globe pour le rôle elle est fantastique et magnétique elle nous tient en haleine du début à la fin c'est un rôle magnifique bravo
Suranne is playing Anne Lister brilliantly, such an amazing woman,I'd never heard of her until series and i also can't believe all this happened, what a wonderful character and her diaries wow !! This was great, farting in bed Lol, both Suranne & Sophie are amazing on screen, they have got this great chemistry going on and its so believable for us watching !!! This is one of the best period drama ive ever seen, ive watched so many as i love period drama's and yes ive said it its the best and its true !!!!
I loved this interview. Gentleman Jack gave me the push to start feeling like I don't need to care about what others think. I'm a lesbian and if she could get married and have a wife so long ago, I can too. 😁 There's no shame needed.
Some folk, especially women, have the ability to blur the line of friendship and romantic relationship. I used to have a lot of friendships when I was younger and they are the ones I look back on with fondness.
It's not just Women that are in love with Suranne's portrayal of Anne Lister (I feel it is important to emphasise that it is her PORTRAYAL of the person that is so endearing), or indeed the fine actress herself! I for one fancy this version of Anne myself, even though it is obvious I would never get anywhere with her!
The lip licking thing she does, she obviously can't help doing it cuz she does it in 'Scott and Bailey' too. I don't know what's happening to her voice though, she's got a Southern vein running through it when she's totally Northern?
Her voice for Ann Lister is q southern - why ? She was born & bred in Yorkshire why not give her a broad northern accent? Mind you if you think about it - this may not have worked !! Both should have been portrayed with northern accents instead of faux southern tones.I don't think " ee up me duck" & " aye up" " I'm in fine fettle, me duck" would have worked artistically speaking.Sally Wainwright possibly thought it wouldn't work , but giving em posh educated voices may indicate middle class bias or suggests writers license to change ,
@@715michala She uses that accent instead of a Yorkshire one because Anne Lister changed her accent to better fit in with the wealthier class. She wanted to rise above her station.
@@715michala Yes, I believe it was. Sally Wainwright mentioned it in some interviews, but I also ran across it yesterday in one of the Audible books about Anne that's not associated with the show. So either Anne mentioned it, or Eliza Rayne (her first lover in boarding school) did in one of the letters that was found with Anne's journals. It was a mention about how Eliza had a Yorkshire accent, but Anne had schooled herself to sound more upper-crust.
Even Suranne is fangirling the Ann(e)s!
Suranne's "BUT THEN THEY GOT MARRIED!" always gets me everytime!!! Absolute love for her, Sophie, Sally and the cast/crew!

I absolutely adore Suranne Jones so much..."we're not lesbians"... well Bravo because I am, and I can't seem to lesbian as well as they did. 🤷♀️🤣
🤣🤣🤣
No one could have played Anne & Ann better than Suranne & Sophie. Legends
She is just so sweet and charming. It's no wonder she could really play Anne Lister's flirty side and make every girl swoon.
Suranne you are beautiful, your smile is captivating.such an amazing actress.
Lesbian or straight, Jones and Rundle placed love on the screen between them, their characters rang real.
0:36 "neither Sophie or I are lesbians" and...I wake up to reality. 💔 Suranne you are going to break many of our hearts.
But they MIGHT be, after all this 😁
@@Jen12_03 let's hope that

All I gotta say is I am so like Anne Lister. Finally figured out why I am the way I am. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Such a heart-stirring emotional story based on true events...
I can't believe they're both straight. Nice one

They are both so good in their acting that is hard to believe neither of them is a lesbian!
I was blown away today when I found out neither was....I was like what??? Can't be!
It really is an amazing series.
Sarah Anne, você é incrível!!!!!! 😍
Oh my god 💕
EXCELLENT SUPERB to everybody concert with Gentleman Jack
1:00 when she said "Dozy and geeky" I instantly remembered "Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich." Music fans of a certain age will understand ;-)
