this owner was legit he was so calm and wasn't rushing Dave to look at everything in the restaurant and even his wife who was in a rush was very chill for how excited she was. I love that they didn't remodel this place either the vibe is just right
Yeah Steve and Jill are really nice, genuine people. That’s what I love. Hate going to some places where owners are arrogant. Never been the case with them. They make you feel welcome

Yeah, you gotta listen to your customers if you're making money. Don't remodel because all the sudden you lose your regulars and have a new crowd who's going to want craft beers and weird drinks. These old time places need to preserve the history. Although if the pizza is that good, the regulars would probably stick around anyway.
This place is my kind of place. It reminds me of this restaurant back in Indiana where I used to get steak sandwiches and breaded tenderloins.

Whats weird is since the whole covid thing hes been both too harsh and too easy. He actually briefly sort of acknowledges it right after giving the 8., its like since covid his scale starts at 6.3 and ends at 8.5 99% of post covid scores are between 6.5 and 7.5 lol

Dave it’s time to drop the “rule” about not being able to change scores. Pizza is a sophisticated gem that must be treated with such fluidity and flowing energy as it provides for us. If that Pizza is truly a 9.1 then you must say that. No matter when.

Know Steve almost forty years and a fun terrific guy. Patsy's, phenomenal pizza my favorite the pepperoni garlic pie burnt. Meatball spaghetti is terrific as well as many board specials. But I always hollered at Steve, why didn't you save mom's cheesecake before she passed -yeah I knew mom too and like Steve was a personality and a half. Be seeing you real soon.

That old picture of his grandfather behind the bar from the 30’s, then you turn around as see that very bar. Things like that are amazing and priceless. This place has so much character
Love how the 1930’s is old to Americans. Here in the UK there’s buildings everywhere that are 200+ years old.

Watching so many of these I get it pretty close when he calls it and I called it and 8.7 when he said 8.3 I was like bro that shit was too diffwrent for that low that crust alone was worth an 8.1 had that detroit rising style but staying thin flakey and crispy, never seen anything like that before

This is a local joint for me, and I feel very lucky to be able to drop by and enjoy one of their pies whenever I'm in the mood. Along with Pizza Town (Elmwood Park) and Bruno's (Clifton), Patsy's is yet another establishment that helps identify this region as a hot spot of pizza history and culture. I don't feel I'm exaggerating (though I'm admittedly rather biased -- but who cares) when I say this area of northern NJ really is blessed with some of the best pizza in the country.
Those seem like great owners, the place looks awesome, and looks flush with American history. The pic of the guy's Grandpa at the same bar after prohibition.. so awesome! Love hearing that people say the consistency and quality of their pies is and has been the same for decades. Best to Patsy's Tavern and Restaurant!

Years ago, there was a place in North Conway NH known for their lasagna. The place was a "dump" (it wasn't, just never remodeled since the early 50s) but everyone loved it. It was a bit dark and full of old wood floors and booths. Sometime in the early 80s, they gutted and remodeled it and it looked like a crappy high school cafeteria. I think within a couple of years they were out of business. Ambiance is important in the sit down restaurant biz.

We used to go there when Marilyn owned it, that’s her son. Patsy’s was one of my dads spots and he’d always bring a pie home to get himself out of trouble for having a few after work. Then when I grew up my firehouse that I worked at was down the street and we used to order quite often. Glad to see still making a great pie.

One of the best parts about dave is he always stays the common man. Always willing to talk to strangers like they are on the exact same pedestal as him. Love how he is always willing to talk to everyone

I went to this place for my birthday. This was the best pizza I ever had, hands down. I was in shock by how good it was and I've tried most of the famous places in NY/NJ

Paterson! I was born there. Most of my family grew up in Paterson. My aunt Sadie& Ruby had the little dinner in downtown. My grandfather Bill Cohen had the gas station. He had to ration gas during WW2 for the truckers. Lots of memories. I live in Massachusetts now. I miss the pizza in N.J. and N.Y. They dont know how to make great pizza around here! Ok! My family said. Patsy's. Great! Been there for ever.

He's awful with his scoring. He treats 8's like 9's now. Barely ever anything out of the 7's unless its terrible then he'll go to 6's. He'll be like "This is as good as any pizza I've ever had.... 7.8 that's a review."
@@marksommers4179 well because of the app, I think he does places with good reviews now (7+). Back in the day he would just go anywhere and find out if it was good or not. Thats why I think the scores are always in the 7's. Also, he's always been super stingy with 8's and only given out a couple 9's.

8.2 is low for this, they deserved an 8.6 easy, it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had, granted I haven’t had as many as Dave and I haven’t done a lot of eating in New York but still I think it deserves a higher score. For my taste it’s a 9.1, maybe a 8.9 on a bad day. It’s got a good helping of high quality cheese, good sauce, the best crust I’ve ever had by a mile, and it’s cooked to perfection. Just a tremendous slice all around, bravo to the guys over there at patsy’s tavern and restaurant
Edit: wow I just got to the end of the review and saw he changed his score to an 8.9 or 9.1, what a coincidence. Also, I don’t care if he wants to say he can’t change the score on a technicality, he changed it whether he wants to admit it or not, as he should.
