- I just recently passed my 5-year anniversary with pixel art đ so I thought itâd be a perfect time to dig out the very first piece of pixel art I ever made and see what improvements I could make after all this time!

The animation actually was very helpful since we don't really get to see your animation process
Thanks! I've been meaning to share some animation timelapse and this felt like a really useful one to show :D
@@BJGpixel but in my opinion the t-shirt has gone too quickly
edit: but animation is ok :)
I like ur name.

Other pixel artists: i make pixel art
Brandon: I make pictures out of tiny squres
Yes
Isn't pixel art making pictures of pretty big squares?
@@theaddictofgaming9174 yeah, regular art is more like art out of tiny squares
@@osc-omb47896what about vector art?
@@osc-omb47896 *digital art, as it's the one that mainly uses tiny squares. Where as traditional art is more like making art out of tiny spheres.
Seeing that old art and looking at him now really shows the progress of how he improves over the year. Amazing art my man!
Over 5 years yes
That Nano hulk caught me so off guard đ
The animation actually helped a lot with my learning
i like how the expression for the first pixel art you made was just like 0oO

I like the way you've gone for blue hues for shadows rather than just darker versions of the main colour. I shall keep that in mind.
He made a whole video about hue shifting if you want more depth, check it out!
i do a darker version, but i should add a hue change (or something) to the shadow
Color theory guys. It helps
Kinda eminds me of an article "Why Monet Never Used Black, & Why You Shouldn't Either"
Basically, why use just the darker shade of a color when you can use color theory (the illusion that simple hue contrasts could bring) to do the job, and even better.
the reason I love pixel art is that you have to use your imagination and work with a limited amount of supplies. when drawing you can basically just. "draw" but here you have to think more strategically
This is the definition of Minecraft youtubers saying: "I did a little work off-camera", and then EVERYTHING looks different. (But still good)
He did all the work on camera tho?
@@lemonke8132 I... don't think you get it but sure ok.
(This comment hasn't aged well in the slightest...)
@@lemonke8132 i think he meant if you compared the old version with the new version?

I love the idea of having a single idea to revisit every year, like drawing a new Luke Skywalker. 2019's looked really good, can't wait to see what this year's will look like!
I need to start waking up earlier to catch these videos at a better time đ
Haha thanks dude! Yeah I really liked the stylistic departure with the 2019 Skywalker, and I'm not sure what I'll do yet for the 2020 version - maybe an animation using that styling..? đ€
@@BJGpixel Oooh! A Bespin or Throne Room vs Vader animation would be so rad! đ
When you said your first pixel art was in 2015 I said to myself, "Damn... I'm old." I started copying old tamagotchis and redrawing GBC Pokemon art in the late 90s and then started editing my own art over the style of the DBZ Legacy of Goku sprites. I haven't done pixel art in a while but alway still enjoy the process.
Watching you fix the animation at the end reminded me of some of the nintendo transformations in games where the character would cycle between frames for a moment before transitioning to the next frame then cycling between that one to lengthen the animation time of the transformation and make it look more intense, I wonder if that trick would look good in this animation too.
CZcams algorithm came through. Just been recommended your channel and I know I'm gonna be hooked.
I've been making pixel art for 3 years i really should try the same thing it sounds so fun
I'm dying over 'credible holk' right now
It's kind of "NES vs SNES version" in a certain aspect.
it is
dang i just wrote the same thing...
this guy really helps teach and give tips about pixel art, and his lessons help for beginners and experts! this particular video formed my style of bright yet soft colours. :)
This video made me go back to my favorite art and now i'm applying new approaches and slightly more advanced techniques. That's a lot of fun and lets me see how my vision changed with time. :)
I've been doing pixel art since around 2005, and 15 years later you're still far beyond my ability after just 5 years. Inspirational, but also a little demoralising. :V Well done!
This was brilliant to watch. It was a tutorial without being a tutorial. Very informative and fun. Thanks!
been doing pixel art for a month, thank you for encouraging me to always do better!
I love the animation keep it up ! And congrats on 50k subs! You have the equivalent of a small town following you!
Hahaha interesting way to think about it, and thanks for the support! đ
My dude you are killing it
That was amazing! Expressionism is piece of cake next to doing and animating a 28 pixel art!
Dude, I started pixel art yesterday and this freaking blew my mind! Itâs insane!
Thanks to your awesome videos I'm trying out pixel art! It's great to see where you began, makes me feel betterđ
Same dude, same.
I hope thatâs going well for you!
@@creepalotl8841 thanks đ
I like it as it is--reminds me of the 80's cartoon. He somehow got his clothes back when he turned back into Banner. :D
Wow.. at first I thought you had been doing pixel arts for decades.
This gives hope and motivation
what a great progress
âA short break of 5 yearsâ
Valve: you did good son
Watching your videos is getting me into pixel art
Youâve improved so god damn much aaaa
I have started doing pixel art 4 years ago and I think I'm joining this challenge now!
you inspired me to do pixel art and now i've started commissions, made 3 sales so far! Thanks for giving me money basically
I canât remember the video. But I watched a video about the sprites used in Metroid and how they created a smoother animation by having frames in between full pixel jumps. I think this could help with his idle breathing
Update itâs called sub-pixel. I canât find the original video Iâm referring to but there are some good videos about it
That's definitely the biggest glow up of The Hulk in 2020. Looks great man and awesome growth on your art! Excited to see more!
The way you made the new shading really tought me a lot since I usually do shading like the 2015 pixel art.
Thanks for making this, love your work
There is something Blankaesque in this Hulk. I like it. Probably the yellow eyes and tint give that feeling. You progressed a lot in five years. Nice vid.
"just see what I've could do better"
Everything my man....
Everything
It aint that bad
Ya the fact that itâs another mega-man copy made it so much worse tbh
This channel has helped my pixel art so much! All the tips and inspiration is a good way to show people how you do your pixel art and how they can improve theirs as much as they can.
Being very truthful, I believe this additional exaggerated frame in the transformation process actually threw away some of the smoothness of the animation, the version without it was a lot smoother to look at (in my opinion); still, amazing artwork done there, mainly from someone doing this for the first time. Your pixel art skills are amusing.
the Nano was fantastic! I was hoping but didn't expect. Thanks for that.
Awesome work as always, looking forward to the next one :)
Loved the counter at the end!
Wow, what a jump from 2018 to 2019! Playing around with a few sprites for 2019 as well, to show off your many gained skills!
Keep it up my man !!
"I'm not gonna create a new sprite" proceeds to edit the heck out of the first one until it is unrecognizable
OMG this type of pixel art makes my eyes tears, but tears of joy, nice job bro.
Those 2019 Luke pieces look awesome! Getting a LucasArts point and click vibe. Love the simple eyes and nose.
Lol short break... for 5 years. But seriously that respite looks so awesome!
I'm sure I've seen this guy in a cartoon, can't think which one though, this is gonna drive me nuts. Nice pixel art btw.
Wow! Awesome video. You acquiried a new fan
As always, great work, Brandon!
Very significant progress you've made! We hope to follow your steps đ
P.S. I love how that little fella turns into a big green Brezhnev đ§Hehe
Always learn a lot of new ideas/techniques from your videos! Thanks!
Was kinda expecting you to build on the idea of this version of the hulk being styled to be like a Mega Man boss, still rad sprites tho :).
I love that the Hulk Nano from the last community preview discussion made it into the video, awesome easter egg!
that hulk transformation sound sounded like the death of a slime in caves of qud
would be cool a little platformer game with Hulk... transforming when he got angry for some reason :P
Ur videos make me happy. They are so smooth and relaxing. Keep it up!
Really nice !! This is huge !
Amazing work! Just wanted to say that IÂŽve been watching your videos for the past week, and absolutely love them. Thank you for the hard work, beautiful pixel art, great editing and comprehensive tutorials!!
Impressive work! I know very little about animation, and I am not jealous at all!
you are super talented sir
Great video Brandon (also, I was wondering if you could try making a sprite analysis video on Undertale?)
So freaking dope :D. Really enjoyed it :D Keep up Brandon
These videos have helped a lot. Thanks.
Have you done head-shots before? They are basically small pictures next to text boxes used to depict who is talking in dialogue, such as in Final Fantasy games. Anyway, I have been trying to make my own, and I think it would be something to try.
I've done a little bit but that's a great idea for a video :)
Hulk's face kinda remindes me of the pixel art on the back of some of the Scott Pilgrim books
I've recently gotten back into pixel art. I haven't made any since like 2 years ago, and even then it was only a hobby. As it still is. Just im having fun with it, is all. Which is probably why i got this video in my recommendeds actually. Since i downloaded a pixel art app on my phone.
ah yes the classic mega man sprite, the one we all start with :b.. wonder if i still have the one i did of my oc anywhere
Astounding work buddy wow
I liked to see your progression through the years with Luke Skywalker art, but I think your style in 2019 was most mature and I prefer this version
subscribed, your videos are really didatic, i could learn much to practice in my sprites! thanks
Weirdly enough, I also started pixel art by taking heavy reference from the nes mega man sprite
Thanks my dude
this channel is amazing!!!!!
Awesome. Not sure if I like the teeth since, at this scale, even being a single pixel tall, it looks like a super prominent feature of the character.
umokay! 3 years left! almost 2 omg
Wow! this guy is SO much better at pixel art than me! any tips for animating sprites? I'm working on that right now.
Love the animation work! Great video again :)
You should do one of these transform animation with curt connors! (The lizard)
âI did some spriting off camera!â *PROCEEDS TO MAKE IT 10X BETTER*
I really love this video yo!
Seeing this channel made me make my own videogame lol, dev started june 3rd
nice
Been wanting to try pixel art, I think today is a great time to start.
I'm gonna commit myself to five years since I'm starting on a round number and see if I can achieve the same kind of progress
Beautiful!
I love your videos. I am trying to do Pixel art myself so your input helps a lot.
nice remake!
Awesome video!
Seeing other people's art improvement makes me feel hopeful. Maybe in some years I'll be satisfied with my work... :p
you've got me excited about pixel animation again. Subbed!
Amazing progress. Loved the video thoroughly. So much fun.
Thanks for sharing your art process with us, it was really helpful!
Amazing stuff. Really inspiring.
Thanks Doc
I love how at 8:12 the background music syncs with the frames
Dude... so good... đ Kinda jealous
10:21 The Credible Nano đ
I wonder how a version that maintains the Mega Man feel, maybe basing off Guts Man, would look.
Itâs really good! Just some constructive comments from an observant rando: the emphasis lines around the biggest hulkâs head appear only in one frame and then disappear, so my eyes didnât know what was happening and actually thought they were part of the next regular hulk frame which took away from the effect. Maybe consider having a regular hulk frame before the emphasis one, or emphasis lines that grow over a few frames. Also the shoes disappear in 2 frames which makes it hard to see. Also there could be more arm movement in the breathing since it looks like two repeated frames are in the same location. Not that I think I could do better, this looks amazing!
This is excelent content
Thanks
This was really useful
High detailed art like the game eastward sir :)
Wow never heard of this, it looks so good - thanks!
@@BJGpixel i wish you create a content aboutthis kind of art :) it has post process I think
