High gear would be 8th gear. You start in 7th gear and power shift into 8th, is one of the purposes of the Power Director which BTW is a reliable rugged two speed power shift unlike most all other power shifts built at that time and you can use it to ease from a stopped position to a rolling load without worry. I have driven these tractors since the age 13, almost 40 years and I've literally done that hundreds of times. You can't do that with a TA or Ampli-Torq and you can't do that with most 4020's because most 4020s aren't power shift..... which was not indestructible back when they were in heavy use plowing.
@@SilverGleaner so many folks misunderstand the Allis Chalmers transmissions. It’s like when someone complains that a 190 doesn’t have live PTO.....I actually think the Power Director for live PTO operation is easier to use.
@@GMdieselman I agree completely with two exceptions. One: using a snow blower, two using a round baler without a bale kicker so you have to back up every to eject every bale using a 190 or 200. Every other PTO application I've ever used a 190 or D series, I really prefer the Allis Power Director with the neutral position.
fast forward to 2021: i need a tractor that's built for the gender fluid. that can handle the demands of organic soy co-op farming. ...on days i feel like it.

Didn't mention that the transmission can't be shifted on the go and forces you to try and start out in high gear. Good thing it has the hi/lo!
