Even in Season 1 when Jon took his vow at the Night's Watch in it he said he , " would wear no crowns" Foreshadowing. I agree though, he should have been King. The one who doesn't seek power is usually the best type of ruler, so saying he doesn't want it is pointless. He was a leader. That being said there was a ton of foreshadowing that 1) Jon wouldn't be King 2) Dany was like her father the Mad King and would go mad herself 3) that Bran would be King. Everyone likes to act as if they ruined the show in season 8, but in reality if you picked up the clues it was there all along. I knew since Dany watched her brother die in season 1 that she was no heroine. No tears either. I said it then to my husband, "oh, she's going to go full Mad Queen one day." Heroes don't act the way she did even to their enemies.

The way Varys described serving for so many kings, more than anyone, and being very intellectual and knowledgeable about history and understanding that every king he had witnessed and learned about always loved the idea of being King. Maybe some were less greedy and prideful than others but still seemed to be a thing that was common in all. EXCEPT Jon Snow. He truly didn’t want it. Yet he always acted like a true king. Unlike Dany who was full of pride and entitlement only because of her last time. Even with Jon knowing the truth about himself, he still didn’t want it and Varys recognized him as the true king not because of his birth right either but because of his character. Jon hated to be violent, Dany just cared about how she would be looked at because of it but Jon truly didn’t want that on his soul. He was all the right qualities not just for a king but to be the very best of them all. WHY DID THEY MESS UP THE ENDING SO MUCH, like why?? Even with the same amount of episodes they could have at the very least stay on track with everything but instead decided to wipe their behinds with all those years of hard work and dedication and give us something worse than an elementary kid could dish out. The costumes, scenery, and CGI were phenomenal! The Witcher writers could have learned from this. This was a masterpiece! I can't watch it enough, and I will always say Jon Snow is my absolute favorite character. He is gentle, but he is fierce when he must be. I liked Danaerys but felt her character was a bit ruined. I wanted her to be more as well as Jon. I think both deserve the best stories. Unfortunately, I can't get past the nephew/aunt part and definitely would not wish to see Jon and Danaerys together as a couple. I had hoped she and Drago would have ended up together and Jon find someone as amazing to cherish (like Ygritte). But regardless, Jon and Danaerys deserve the best story, although I favor Jon the most and will always wish more for him.
