      *”They had no intention of being civil.”*
      The players in turn land into a ‘Don’t poke the bear’ situation when things end up in a game-ending disaster. Players have a responsibility to remain professional at all times.
      Common sense should dictate that picking up a lit flare and throwing it back into an already uncivil and irate supporter group that is very much prone to violence and could potentially rip a player apart to injury or death is unprofessional on the player’s part, let alone a player who’s a part of the arch-rival team. Not to mention the chance that either some innocent spectator who would have absolutely nothing to do with the Terrace or the hooligans, or one of the barracker’s children, could get hit by said flare.

    • @razor9247
      @razor9247 Před rokem +5

      You do realise that it was thrown by accident? It went sideways, so clearly it wasn't intended to land at the active support. And judging by his reaction, I don't think he realised what had happened. I certainly wouldn't be standing there if I threw a flare at a mob of thugs, let alone watching them swarm me knowing that I would be assaulted. Either way, both teams need to be fined for the use of flares, Izzo's netting was cinged by a City flare. But Victory needs to be punished for what really is just a reflection of their club culture. Victory active support were chanting abusive words at Glover before the flares, some idiots in GA threw a bottle at Leckie when he was leaving the pitch. Judging by some of the faces of Victory's active support, they seemed to enjoy the spectacle whilst everybody else were clearly shocked. It's these nasty people that pollute Victory's fan base and they need to be stamped out. The flare was clearly thrown with no intention of hurting anybody, but to throw a bucket of sand at someone's face is just criminal.

      @@razor9247 Mate, you are right on so many aspects, but I gotta address this. Sorry, but do you hear yourself there with that first statement? How the actual hell do you throw something by accident? How do you be a goalkeeper who judges the distance between his position and his teammates before throwing the ball back into play, and throw something by accident? That just doesn’t make any sense.
      Though on Glover’s reaction, as much as players have a responsibility to remain professional throughout the entire time, sometimes logical and rational thinking heads straight out the back door when a volatile situation is unfolding. Both sets of fans were already irate and fired up by the APL’s GF decision. This flare going into the already furious (and prone to violence) supporter group just ended up as the straw that broke the camel’s back.
      And as to the violent culture and who should cop the fine, do not go about blending the clubs with the so-called supporter bases that claim to represent them. There’s a big difference between the two parties. Fining the club is going to do nothing else but cripple it, and the league, even further and serve as a nothing deterrent for the hooligans. There are so many fans of the clubs that actually love the sport and love the club while at the same time having absolutely nothing to do with these supporter bases. Why should they lose out because of the scum that decided to retaliate?
      The ones who should ultimately be copping the bill (and the bans) are the hooligans from the “supporter” groups involved, OSM in Victory’s case. The sport already has a poor reputation in this country because of the hooliganism culture.
      (There’s another big fuelling to the background of this culture, but to avoid having the social warriors stomping my head on the road and having me cancelled rather than using their heads to think about it, I will not mention it here. All I will just say is have a good think about why these incidents are prevalent in Soccer and to a lesser extent in Rugby League, but hardly at all with Footy and Union.)
      The governing body/ies of the sport in Australia also have to take responsibility, because over the years these sorts of incidents have happened and all these bodies have done is all big words, no action. They’re either blaming the fans outright or blaming the clubs, but they nearly never look at themselves in the mirror and question their actions.
      As for this, if the game for the moment has to be finished behind closed doors, they should absolutely do it and get it over and done with.
      No disrespect at all to you Razor, but I have to leave it there on this matter before I trigger someone else out there, since this is starting to tread on some very sensitive territory.
