  • Eliki, Jonathan, and Harley didn’t have a ride home this day so the only choice was to do what kids used to do back in the day: WALK HOME FROM SCHOOL.
Looking for fruit, playing games, with the best ending of all after a long hot walk.
This is what Fiji is like for us:) And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bring back memories of my village school days, the 1 hour walk morning and afternoon. Stopping at any fruit tree along the way. Significant learning period of the humble beginning we came from. Good luck to you Eliki, you will grow to be a strong individual.

Thank so much for the comment!
We were really hoping that this video (as raw an unedited as it was) could be a fond reminder to many people who have now grown up and moved on about where they started and came from and also something those parents could show to their kids:) much love!

Seva and Eliki is experiencing such a memorable life as a child growing up the way it should be cause here in the city Suva our kids don't experienc that anymore and how we wish it was like the old days where kids was fearless not worrying a small bruise on the leg and drinking from hosepipe our "Internet" was outside playing until we get the "Sasa broom" this was the life we all miss.
The way Seva just swinging from that tree and picked himself up again for another is just awesome and fearless of anything 👏 😀 🙌 too good God bless you all
Vinaka for sharing this part of life

Enjoyed all the comments about picking guavas, mangoes and whatnot en route home from school.
But here's the full story...if you dawdled, lingered, and took your sweet little time, knowing that your chore when getting home was peeling cassava, husking or scraping coconuts, or gutting and cleaning fish, you prayed that Dad not be home.
If he were, he'd be awaiting your arrival with either his leather belt or a hibiscus branch.

    Bula Re Waka Family,
I took my son back to Fiji where my Mum grew up for him to walk the red muddied track that my cousins kids still walk today to access their school.
It's an access "road" that snakes thru thick jungle with a lot of 'co gadro' - prickly weeds in open areas. It takes them about 45mins to an hour to walk to a proper gravelled road, as it depends on how muddy it is for my young relatives, to catch a bus for the rest of the journey these days. Then of course back home again after school. Unfortunately, no fruiting trees on the way as its virgin bush, but walking with them, they created their own games and sense of fun to quell the boredom and the daily repetitiveness of their journey with seemingly no complaints.
When we got back home my son never again complained about his journey to school which took him about 45mins in an air-conditioned bus then a train.
