- Jazmine Sullivan stayed relatively quiet since she dropped her third album, 'Reality Show,' in 2015, but her new EP, 'Heaux Tales,' proves it was worth the wait. The conceptual project isn’t delivered through Sullivan’s vocals and songwriting alone. It’s punctuated by six spoken-word interludes from women detailing their inner-most thoughts on relationships, love, and sex. For the latest episode of 'For The Record,' Sullivan sat down with Genius' VP of Content Strategy Rob Markman to discuss the critically acclaimed project, why the interludes were such an important part of the EP, and how she reacted when she first heard Ari Lennox’s provocative lyrics for “On It.”

Yes I must say the first time I listened to the song I said "oh my" ! Lol. I love the double entendre of the lyrics. Sensually let me sit on it/spit on it and then when I settled down to realize it could also mean let me think about this/ speak on it and convince me. Genius! My favorite song on the album.

On It is my favorite song! I wake up with that tune in my head. Throughout the day, in the car, before bed I need to hear it. I just can’t get the tune out my head. My husband says it’s an outlet that’s needed for women who’s not into “city girls ratchet” but enjoy to get down too just more into soulful r&b.
I’m weakk at the fact that Jazmine said she sounded like she was singing gospel because I definitely said that! Cause baby they was sanginggg on the BET awards . But especially if your musical background is grounded in church it’s always going to be a piece of you musically.

You’re such a gifted story teller. The interludes were intentionally placed to even if you don’t like interludes they’re worth listening to because they add so much to the EP

It's hard for me to pick a true fav. I've listened to "bodies "at least 50 times now, vibed to "on it" ( probably the fav right now if I am forced to pick), twerked to "put it down". The album is so relatable to the everyday woman. It either applies to you personally at different stages in your life or someone you know. This was a Masterpiece. If you see this Ms. Sullivan, Thank You for the experience, for putting the feelings to words and keep up the good work. ❤❤❤
