The fact that Cordelia died midway through the episode was a stroke of genius. Everyone would expect the wish-maker to somehow find a way to reverse the effect and set things right by the end of the story, but instead she just dies from the bad world she created. And yet the ripples she left behind still manage to connect with another character and set things in motion to save the day, because (Giles) the other members of the gang are just as good.
This part of the episode is so powerful! I still get goosebumps while listening to it, imagining all our favourite characters dying and the final haunting, hanging shot of Buffy meeting her end. No friends, no hope, nothing. Such a fascinating "What if?" scenario. One CZcamsr I really like does episode guides of Buffy and his video for this episode was terrific. His channel name is called Passion of the Nerd if anyone would like to check him out.

No. This has ominous quality to it. Sacrifice from the Gift wasn't eerie sounding and had a sadness to it in an endearing way... it was uplifting and sounded the way it was supposed to - a girl who knew she had to save the world. This music sounds like tragic and ruines, nothing but death and jadedness.
She looked right at him when he said "Buffy", but she didn't seem to care. Then again why would she, she really didn't know him. He cared for her because as we learn from season 2, he saw her as a regular teenage girl and claimed right there he loved her because he could see her heart. Angel always loved Buffy.

I just thought wow best friends become best enemies also in that world families must of meant nothing and if getting home before sun set was important sudden't school end sooner? I'm surprised Cordelia didn't realise the lack of students sooner
Some of my favorite episodes of any tv shows are the ones that don't actually happen withing the show's timeline-like this one. This one, the One on Angel where he becomes human, etc.For some reason, I highly dislike this in movies. If the end of the movie winds up back at the beginning, I feel like I've wasted my time.

@@starrtucker I was 29 when BTVS was a new show. Not before and nothing since will ever come close to the power of these characters and the story lines in those 7 yrs of life changing television. BTVS helped me get thru some very emotional times in my life. And Angel, as well.

This episode is one of my favourites - along with passion, hush and innocence. It is just episodic perfection. And this music is so evocative.
