just keep reminding yourself of the reason why you're doing the fast every single hour. Think of the positives, and then think of the damage you've done to your body from your addiction. Keeping these things in mind makes it easier.

I've found that fasting is much easier when you first make dietary changes like completely cutting out sugar and flour. It takes several days and the sugar addiction is gone. That's the trick - just cutting it down doesn't work.

I am on day 3 and I feel you wanting to eat. I watch videos on fasting every day to help remind me of the benefits of fasting. Also, when you break your fast, remember that you fasted for longer than you have in the past. Good job! Also, you can fast for a day longer next time. You got this. I know you can do this. You are worth the effort of fasting.

I believe I became insulin resistant early on as a child so that's one of the reasons why I was fat for most of my life and had a hard time losing weight and keeping it off. I’ve fasted on and off for a few years now, thing is, the more often you do it, the better you get at it. I’ve done 3, 5, 7 and 10 day water fasts. For me the 3 day fast is the hardest to do. But, because I KNOW exactly what happens when you wake up on day 4 and that is the insane surge of energy and clarity, it’s like the reward of winning ! Day 5 is even better and invariably, if I’d decided beforehand to do a 5 day, at this point I don’t want this feeling to stop, I want 2 more days of this before starting to feed again. I become a totally different person when I am eating sugar and processed food. I isolate myself. I don’t want to do anything or go anywhere. All I think about is the next junk food I can eat and how to hide what I am eating from my family. I have come to the realization that I have to be an abstainer from crappy carbs, not a moderator. Eat one cookie and the whole bag disappears. I have been eating ketovore and one meal a day for 2 years. I am on day 6 of a 7 day water fast right now. I was starting to eat sweets again and getting out of control. Had to detox and get the carbs out of my system. I will break my fast tomorrow on Christmas Day. It feels good to be back in control. I went on keto again couple of weeks ago, expecting some of the same symptoms . None of that showed up, I feel great, can exercise etc. Just because I'm no more addicted to carbs, a completely different experience. I also can fast pretty easily now. I started Keto almost by accident. I came across a random video on YT about why sugar is bad, and decided to cut it out. And since carbs are converted to sugar, I cut those out too. I slowly began exploring keto more and more, and over time, developed an actual keto diet. Now, I'm not a heavy person, usually coming in around 170lb~ but I dropped to 150 in a couple weeks on keto. My anxiety disappeared, my heart palpitations disappeared, my cravings disappeared, and my insomnia disappeared. All by eating well (no carbs/sugar) and doing intermittent fasting. But it's all about the mindset. This is by far the easiest and most effective way to lose weight, but you need the discipline and power to tell your cravings *NO* because without the power to control your "wants", you will fail.

I ended up in prison with a hard IV drug use problem and I relapsed 50 times before I got it but learning to speak to yourself different. I absolutely can feel the addicted part of food it’s definitely addictive and poison. I finally got better and finally found my way out. Luckily food was an easier shift for me than drugs but I know how hard it is to shift out of my extra unneeded cupcake at night. Exercise and meditation….. priceless. If you want a way out of addiction you must go inward and find the core self and this is not an easy process. Addiction isn’t black and white but most of society believe it it. remember bit by bit you change your behavior. Learning how to walk through a craving and being successful IS SO EMPOWERING. My story is much like everyone else but I wanted to add that among the many benefits of fasting including weight management, you really can't underestimate the anti-inflammatory effects and how many different issues in your body that can resolve. For about two years now, I've been doing OMAD (One.Meal.A.Day) in a 2 hours window from 5-7pm. I also do a prolonged water fast for 3 to 5 days once a month. (Sometimes I skip...) Two issues resolve for me were chronic pain (under pressure) in my knee and psoriasis. I could not put weight on my knee for the longest time due to an injury. One night, I knelt down at my bed and accidentally put pressure on my bad knee. I instinctively winced and backed my weight off....only to realize it didn't hurt. So I put more weight on it and then lifted my other knee so ALL of my weight was on that knee and it was fine. No pain ever again after two doctors told me I was "...just getting old..."
Psoriasis isn't and never will be completely cured however it's very sporadic, localized and almost unnoticeable to me or anyone else. As soon as I trip up and start eating more than one meal a day and don't do a prolonged fast for a few months, the psoriasis immediately starts to flare up.
Finally and almost more importantly, this new way of eating rebooted my ability to identify true hunger and satiety. For the longest time, I never felt full ever. My wife would ask me how I could eat so much. I couldn't ever stop eating and just say "Ok, I've eaten enough". To me, full was "stuffed to the point of bloating". After about 5-6 months from starting this new lifestyle, I started to become aware of when I was ACTUALLY hungry and requiring nutrients. When I do eat, I'm only just now starting to really tune into my body and understand the signals that say "We're full!". It's unbelievable.
The best part about people like Dr. Jamnadas, Dr. Robert Lustig and CZcamsr Dorian Wilson and all others rewriting what we know about how our bodies use the food we put into it is not only the information but it provides validation. When the people around you say "What? You don't eat for 3 days?? Why are you starving yourself? Do you have an eating disorder? You need to eat 3 meals a day!!" you've got the data to back up your life choice. Where is theirs?

After only 3 days, my energy improved immensely and my inflammation in my nose I have had for many years was completely gone. I can breathe through my nose better and sleep way better as a result. I have had heart palpitations since my first pregnancy (5 years ago now) and I haven't had them at all since fasting. My symptoms of depression and anxiety are completely gone and even my ADHD symptoms have changed drastically. My motivation is so strong, I'm cleaning my house like crazy and getting everything done. My patience with my kids is so good now and I'm rarely irritated. My body pain is going away as well and I feel very light on my feet. I didn't change my diet, I just started fasting but I noticed the last 4 days I have been actively craving proteins and veg during my eating window instead of reaching for sugar and carbs like I always did before. It feels so easy because I feel so good like he said. I fill myself with healthy whole unprocessed foods during my eating window and fast easily without much hunger at all.
This is changing my life and I know I can keep going and eventually work towards some longer fasts. I watched all this doctors videos and especially when I'm fasting, watching him helps. Feeling better than I have in my whole life.

I was 3/4 the way through a planned 48 hour fast when I watched this video. Something said, “uh oh, I may have to go for the 72 since he just it cures cravings.” So, I did. The second night of my 48 was rough - cravings and withdrawal symptoms. I was relatively OK the last 12 so I felt good about going for the 72. Last night the cravings were off the hook again, but no physical symptoms. I’m now only 5 hours away from 72 and I’m shocked but happy to report that, while I certainly want to eat, I no longer feel that I NEED to. I’m blessed with a good metabolism (but I work out daily) but have a long history of emotional eating which has been out of control lately. I started with the time restricted which was fairly easy. Then I did a 24 which was pretty easy as it’s only 6 hours more. But, not gonna lie, going beyond has been very difficult but I’m confident that I’ll be able to discern between want/need much better in the future. Thanks Dr. J for sharing your wisdom.
    UPDATE
It’s now the first day after my 3 day. I’m shocked. I used to eat a bagel almost everyday. Today, not only was I not craving one, I didn’t even want one.
I have more awareness of just how much I was eating out of NEED and the delusion that food would ultimately satisfy me - this was unconsciously fueling my bad eating habits which included eating as fast and as much as possible. I didn’t even realize that I rarely if ever really enjoyed what I was consuming.
Today, I literally cannot eat fast - it took me 5x as long to eat a salad with avacado and hardboiled eggs and I enjoyed every bite and didn’t feel the need or even want for more when I finished.
I also now find the relatively small amount of chocolate almond milk I put in my cold brew way too sweet. Half or less is so much better.
Happily shocked at what I’m finding - like he says, so much more freedom naturally arises when not so dependent on food.

I somehow came across his videos and decided to reduce my carbs, eat more whole foods/less processed foods. And I started intermittent fasting (16:8) paired with some fasted exercise. Fasting has changed my life. Now in July 2022, the results are in and I am no longer prediabetic (A1c now is 5.5%) and 200 lbs. I’m not done yet but I feel like I have my body back. All it took was making these small changes over time and my prediabetic symptoms are gone.

I have to purge my kitchen & prep for success. I did a soft start Monday with the ideas in mind. However, I'm giving myself & my husband a full 2 weeks to be at 100%. So far so good. It'll take the full 2 weeks though because changing out ALL of our pantry & refrigerator is expensive. I wish I'd seen him when I was your age. I could have saved us a lifetime of damage. Good Luck to you on your continued journey!😁

I've lost 50 lbs in 5 months. No exercise. I'm 5'6, 48, and gained over 80 lbs during a long grief period. I'm 5'6 and, in 08/2021, reached my max weight of 225 lbs. I started watching Dr.Fung, a Canadian nephrologist who has impressive studies on intermittent fasting. I jumped right into an 18:6, then switched over to 20:4 4-5 days a week. I lost 40 lbs in 4 months and just finished a 7-day water fast, which I lost 13 lbs.
My cravings, b**chiness, chest pains, high blood pressure, joint pains, fatigue gone.
I just started a 30-day, 5-mile walk challenge and plan to start strength training afterward.
This video is so timely, and I've added this Dr. to my essential subscriptions list.
Edit to add: I was a heavy carb, processed food, sugary drinks eater. I cut all of it out and incorporated a very boring eating regiment. A cup of coffee in the am (no sugar, cream), break my fast with a green salad. Snack on hummus and sweet peppers or apple and nut butter, then almost always have fish and roasted veggies for dinner. Outside cup of coffee, I drink water. I still allow myself occasional food and wine with events with friends and family, but I've only done that 4x in 5 months. On weekends, I don't IF but I don't get crazy with crappy food either. I feel as good as I felt in my 20s.

We are in the exact same boat. I am 29 with the same height and used to be the same weight as you at 145 with great will power watching what and how much I ate, exercising, and doing intermittent fasting (without realizing). Life happened; I got married, had kids, and then went to school and ballooned to my max of 195. I had gone vegan a for 4 months this past July and dropped down to 161 in the first 2 months and stopped vegan in November with all the birthdays and holidays and I am back at 175.6. However, I started losing so much hair being vegan no matter how many beans and lentils I ate for protein and even though my cholesterol & triglycerides improved I became prediabetic.
I am trying to go back to intermittent fasting and follow a paleo lifestyle instead as Dr. Jamnadas recommends to prevent further weight gain and to lose weight to go back to those 145 lbs OR have a similar or better physique than did back then even if I weigh a little more.

@@Ash2beauty I wrote a long comment and lost it. Deleted by mistake. This is a different thought...
Reading yours and the other commenter's comment, I started thinking... It never occurs to us that we could be bigger. We always think or act like, the weight we are is the maximum we will ever be.
We focus on losing weight, forgetting that we could gain weight.
And then we gain weight, and we think that weight is the maximum we will ever be,
And then we gain weight, and we think That weight is the heaviest we will ever be...
We never think, if I keep doing x, in x months, I will be x times heavier. We always think, if I could just do y, I would be y times lighter.
If we focused on maintaining weight, we would save ourselves so much angst.
And everything we see or read says the same thing, lose weight, lose weight, lose weight. No one says, maintain weight, maintain weight.
If we focused on maintaining our weight, at whatever weight we are, we would have that much less weight to lose, or no weight to lose at all.

I cancel plans because I'm embarrassed of my weight gain and failure when all my family and friends knew I was on a diet.
My marriage has been suffering because I'm always lashing out on him.
It's taken me until this moment to realize why I have been sabotaging my own relationship with my best friend.
Thank you for waking me up.
    I'm not quitting anymore.
It's time to take charge of my brain, my habits, and what i am eating.
    Water fast starts today.
I have been starting "tomorrow" for a year.

I have Type 2 Diabetes and have had Angioplasty procedure a few years ago.
After trying several diets, and yes, Diabetes Australia instructing me to eat 5 times a day (CARBS) and pump me full of unnecessary drugs I Listened to a few long :) Videos by Dr Pradip.
Although I am fairly new to this new way of living (4 weeks 16hrs fasting) and a few 24hr fasting.
I can say as a patient, I am relieved to have found this invaluable information and such a good speaker.
Basically, I've stopped taking my Metformin and a few other drugs and I feel great, alert and pain free. I weaned myself off Lyrica taken for acute Neuropathy.
After having zero sugar for almost a month, all natural foods nothing packaged or processed, my Neuropathy is almost gone. Pain that I felt here and there is gone, basically repaired. So far I have lost 7 Kilos, however since I also lift weights my girth has shrunk considerably.
So thank you for posting your videos on a public medium like CZcams. Your videos have added many years to my life, and my quality of life in just a month has improved dramatically.
Out of all the doctors I have seen and money wasted, this visit has had the biggest positive impact in my life :)

Thank you for sharing your exeprience. I’m on a 3 day water fast and am at 84 hrs now about to break my first ever water fast. The reason I started was after watching dr. Jamnadas’ video on fasting and then watching his other lectures I started cutting carbs, then doing IF and finally my first 3 day water fast. I’m not unhealthy but I can be very addicted to sugar and basically dopamine in general. The reason for starting this journey was to optimize my health and get off the addiction bandwagon. Seeing that one 3 day water fast might not do the trick but perhaps a second or third might gives me perspective. So thank you also for that.
