james Croom nope. this song came out in 2009, he was 1 year sober. he overdosed in 2007. so he was literally clean and sober when he wrote and released this song. you can read interviews and find out why he wrote this shit, but beautiful is the only song on relapse that he started writing before his OD and getting clean.
