The Gateway Arch is more than a cultural divide. Pioneers heading west to settle in less crowded areas than in the East, gathered in St. Louis to join wagon trains and gather supplies for the journey. They followed various trails depending on their destination, the most famous being the Oregon Trail. The fact that the journeys started in St. Louis, the city became known as "The Gateway to the West". That's why the arch is "The Gateway Arch".

Almost everyone in the world equates the Hollywood sign with American cinema and entertainment, both of which are experienced by people worldwide every day. Of course, it is very recognizable everywhere. The Grand Canyon isn’t a symbol of the United States - it’s a dramatic geological feature. Many people wouldn’t recognize it like Americans do.

Just to clarify, while Gutzon Borglum was the sculptor who designed and supervised the work on Mt. Rushmore, there were nearly 400 people who worked on sculpting the faces. The video made it sound as if Borglum and his son did it all. One of the sculptors was Korczak Ziolkowski, who went on to design and start the sculpting on Crazy Horse, which is ongoing.

The NY Yankees are a symbol of America, not because other countries actually know and follow the baseball team, but because people in other countries often wear a baseball hat with the Yankees logo as a status symbol. And I say this as a Red Sox fan, their hated rival haha.

But the battle of the Alamo was in 1836, and what we know as the Old West cowboy only existed for about thirty years, from roughly 1870-1900.

Beesleys, it appears that you didn't understand the cowboy in black shooting the guns out of the hands of the group. The joke is that he shot the guns out of the hands of all of them before, and had his gun back in its holster before even 1 could get a shot off--impossibly fast to the point of funny. This was a scene from a weird comedy movie, Blazing Saddles, which featured again at around 8:15.
"Full House" was a cute family sitcom of a single dad and his big group of children which ran from '87--'95 (Golden Gate section).
I don't know if I could answer the question of whether the Yankees are an American symbol. You could answer it better. Are they?
    Re. Mt. Rushmore's 1300 acres = 2 sq.mi./5.18 sq. km.
She got it wrong about the Alamo, in that most weren't cowboys, but patriots and military leaders.
At around 9:35 was a cartoon character of decades past--Mr. Magoo.
Personally, Family Guy isn't worthy of being called a cartoon, since my view of that term is Bugs Bunny, but that's just plain profane. I'm ashamed to acknowledge that show as American made.
Obviously, bald eagles aren't bald. The term originated in the days when somebody with white hair was referred to as bald.
Before #1 was revealed, the arch is St. Louis' Gateway Arch, which was recently upgraded to our newest national park. Before that, I believe it was a national monument.

This is the poem on the Statue of Liberty
    The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
    Emma Lazarus

Historians have always been skeptical that Betsy Ross designed the American flag. However, on Christmas night of 1776 George Washington led his army across the Delaware river and surprised a garrison of Hessian soldiers in Trenton NJ, serving King George III. He won the battle and probably saved the American revolution, because it was in a desperate situation at that time. The garrison at Trenton had asked for reinforcements before then and a Colonel Donop was on on his way there with a regiment to reinforce the garrison at Trenton. However, Donop was known to be a lady's man and when his regiment moved through Mt. Holly NJ there was a young widow who was conspicuously present. Most of the other young ladies left town because of many reports of rape. Colonel Donop spent three nights with this young widow (Christmas Eve, Christmas Night, and the night after Christmas) delaying the movement of his regiment. If Donop had not been delayed he might have prevented Washington from winning the battle of Trenton, which might have ended the American revolutionary war. There is no proof as to who this young widow was but there are some clews in letters found in Germany some years ago by colonel Donop. The best fit to the data is Betsy Ross. Betsy was a patriot and was known to the founding fathers of the U.S. including George Washington. If this is true she was far more important to the American revolution than anyone ever realized.

Okay. This video is rather suspect. The New York Yankees? Seriously? I'm not even that sure about the Golden Gate Bridge. When I think of U.S. Symbols, I think of the bald eagle, the flag, and Uncle Sam primarily, not all these tourist destinations and certainly not a New York baseball team.

The hollywood sign is not the U.S. it's a big deal for LA, for the rest of the country not so much. This list left out some things that would be a better representation. MOJO tends to be unreliable in its lists. A lot of the others are pretty much true or close.

The Hollywood sign is very representative of the US around the world - of course it’s the US. American cinema and Hollywood are world renowned.
