In our school days, both side people were growing rice cultivation, but now one side the field is filled with construction materials. At monsoon time this both side fields were taking all water and was going to vaddem under strong railway opening.
Agricultural lands must be with the farmers and they continue to produce food. More coconut, cashew and mango farms with vegetables farming. a must. for Goa for Goan's existence!!??
If that land is meant for farming,then why for so many years(almost a decade) no farming was done? And if that land belongs to farmers....the land should be used for it. Save our land. Nothing against Daji but we have to stop the disaster.
Two crops were done with the surplus water from Mimolem lake upto Bela Baim fields where in even variety of vegetables were grown now still some farmers on one part they grow vegetables
We have stayed in viscinity from birth...we used to play in those fields during summer. Now it is used for only water from illegal housing to migrants from mangor hill😢😢

Happy to see Vascokars rising up to restore the paddy fields in the oldest city. South Goa MPs support is much appreciated too. However (as wetland researcher myself) I am surprised that Notifying Maimollem as wetland will be detrimental to restoring the paddy fields?? Infact Notifying Maimollem as Wetland provides better possibility and opportunity for "Restoration of Traditional paddy field" farming within the notified wetland. The wetland Rules 2017 generally PROHIBIT THEVCONVERSION OF WETLANDS FOR NON WETLAND PURPOSES, which includes conversion of existing wetlands into paddy fields. However, the Restorative principle of same Rules allows or promotes the RESTORATION OF ABONDONED OR DEGRADED Paddy fields, as a part of the wetlands' natural hydrology. Infact mechanised water sports, boating and other activities that could cause pollution or disturb wildlife or alter natural hydrology fo wetland come under PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES in notified wetland. Yet, the Rules promote community involvement and 'sustainable use' of wetlands by the local community for their livelihood. Hence I SUPPORT NOTIFYING MAIMOLLEM AS WETLAND under Wetland Rules 2017.
