  • Since starting in a shed in west auckland in 2012, Makaira Boats has had an uncompromised approach to building aluminum plate boats. This consistent drive to achieve the best performing offshore boat, has led to the development of the latest generation hull, the Makaira Boats Gen3. The Gen3 pushes aluminum boats to a new level and achieves an aluminum flared hull. The flared hull is found in sport fishing boats from around the world, but many thought it was impossible to achieve in aluminum, and it can now be found in an aluminum trailer boat built in New Zealand.
    The aluminum flared hull is being adopted throughout the Makaira Boats range, from the 750 right up to the 35ft. Apart from creating a unique look,the aluminum flare is also practical, resulting in a dryer ride that is softer and create lift in the bow.
    The Aluminium Flare is an additional feature that aligns with Makaira Boats standard features which make up the Makaira difference

    Yes it has "some" flair which I assume is a bit difficult to accomplish with aluminum. Your on the right track but in my humble opinion you need more flair than you have to call it a Carolina flair. I would like to take a ride some day. It's a long swim from the States. Keep evolving

      Do you know how many tonnes of force is needed too bend and mold a 6-7mm sheet of aluminium? now try flare a sheet downwards while maintaining the bend and curvature at the bow of the boat

    • @RStout59
      @RStout59 Před 12 dny

      @S_Chassis91 I'm sure you need a lot of force and the job is extremely difficult. My issue was using the term "Carolina flair". That term denotes an extreme flair which the Makaira does not yet have to my eye.

    Revolutionary Allan, was trying to figure out how to get a flared bow on a plate boat. Interested in visiting once I get a chance to get home to NZ.

      A true plate boat is a 6mm hull. Anything less is classed as a tinny.

      @RedAnchor12 Před rokem +2

      My first plate alloy boat was made in Qld by Wayne (Yellowfin) Osborne in July 1983. It had 6 mm thick plate hull and framing. We added an extra 2m later when we had more $$.
      Tinnies are boats made by pressing of thinner alloy sheet. They are “pressed” boats.

    Gorgeous looking fishing vessel, I wish there was some sort minimum weather conditions that had to be used for boat ads thought. Yeah she flies but how's it handle a big swell with some crosswind?

    Never understood why people chose fibreglass over aluminium. Aluminium is far better in every way. Fibreglass should be banned.
