While using the Westcott Rapidboxes during a demo at a recent photoshow it occurred to me that a lot of people didn't know about these types of softboxes - so here you go! If you have questions or comments or what to share your experiences using these boxes comment below!

I've seen them a few times and looked them up. Thank you for educating us about the options out there to level up our photos.

You’re right about time being our biggest assets, especially when you have kids! I bet I say “I really need a clone” at least a couple times a week! Great work James!

The Glow para-snap series is probably one of the fastest setup/breakdown systems around even in comparison to these and they can be folded flat for storage as well as use different light system mounts. It can also be collapsed with the folded modifier pointing downwards while the flash stays pointed forward, which can be useful for space saving. Since there are no metal rods within the modifier obstructing the flash tube they are very efficient and can be folded with the inner diffusion and outer diffusion still attached. I feel like the long term durability of the Westcott is likely better but it still may be worth giving them a look.

I have about 15 different Glow modifiers and love them. Overall great quality and reasonable price.
12x36, 24x36, 12x56, 31x47 softboxes that all take me like 20 seconds to pop out and lock and ready to go.
Thanks again James for your time and knowledge.

I agree about the ABSOLUTE PAIN putting the boxes together is!!! I am now 72yo and not a big guy... I have recently started shooting Studio work and adding in SoftBoxes I found myself Wrestling with the boxes (I was a Pro in my 20's thru my early 50's when I got sick and had to quit) I remember it was a pain, but only a few options then)and was recently considering my Manhood:( UNTIL I saw a much younger and very fit photog having a fit trying to put an old style box together,,, As soon as I could find a reasonably affordable pop-up boxes I bought them !!!!! ThankYou :) :) :)

I love the Parasnap octas. They’re even quicker to setup and tear down and they pack flat, which means you can use one lightstand bag w/ two or three modifiers and lightstands. They also work w/ my COB lights when I shoot video. Perfect for solo shooters like myself.

Thanks for posting! I bought the ez glow box because they were easier to setup and totally agree there’s hardly anytime to setup when in the field. It like you mentioned the ez glow and these cheaper boxes sag some. I’ll be looking into wescott boxes!

James, I feel like you should have had a "Glow ParaSnap" or similar in this "Quick Setup" lineup! These are by far the easiest to setup and tear down!!!

I have two of these types of boxes. I've rented other versions. The only thing about them over time is the possibility of losing tension. I rented one and it didn't want to hold tension on the rod and would keep closing while attached to my light. So thats the only con i've seen with them up to this point.

@@QuantzPhoto I love those soft boxes that simulate stadium lights. I shoot voluntarily for my school (I'm a teacher) and started doing their team and individual photos for free. Maybe one day for Christmas I'll get one. I was surprised by the cost but they are well worth it. Thanks for the videos

I have 4 older Creative Light/Profoto boxes. Wrestling with rods and speedrings is something I can certainly empathize with... I checked out the videos for the Westcott Mods. Those are designed to velcro into any softbox, correct? Not just Westcott? I like the 1 X 3 strip.

    • @QuantzPhoto

Yes they'll fit other softboxes. There's a list of boxes I've fitted up on the ProLightMods.com website.

Yeah if you're using all the same boxes then a color cast wouldn't be really noticeable unless it was really bad and they weren't.

If it measures a true 36x48 it should work. Just make sure to get a set of tension rods for the PLM if you don’t have them already since I’m pretty sure you’ll need them to support that box.
