An OUTRAGEous Trip!! Over 1000 Miles Offshore in a Boston Whaler 420 Outrage!!

- Another absolutely incredible #Solo Trip offshore in this outrageous @OfficialBostonWhaler #420Outrage powered by @MercuryMarine quad 350hp #Verado outboards. This is the same #BostonWhaler I brought down from New Jersey last year and featured in a few other videos I have uploaded recently. I have to say, all of the updates have made a a substantial impact in how this boat runs on #BeastMode all the time!!
On flat water or anything under 2-3ft, she is just a dream like cruising on an open road without a care... turn up the seas to anything larger and this is where the 420 Outrage breaks away from every other boat competing for your attention. When your situation becomes even more "exciting" due to weather changes or simply caught by surprise, there is no other weapon to get you home safer than the Boston Whaler 420 Outrage!!
On this particular trip, I launched her from Cooper River Boat Yard in Charleston, South Carolina without even thinking a need for a preliminary sea trial was necessary. Over the Winter break, I reached out to @USPMarine and ordered their Verado Performance Kits, complete with all new inlet, supercharger pipes, and the Billet Fuel Filters. Each one was an easy install and the difference in throttle response as well as midrange power could be definitely felt... even on a boat weighing 30,500 pounds with 600+ gallons of fuel on board!
Another upgrade of note is the addition of the Mercury Enertia Eco XL Propellers! I ordered these from Offshore Performance in Ft Myers, Florida and they sent everything to my door with the hubs included at no extra charge! The Enertia Eco props I chose were the 16 x 18" wheels, since this particular Whaler was sold with the 17" Rev4s which are usually equipped on 420 Outrage models ordered with the Fly-Bridge option. All of the data Boston Whaler has shows their testing with the 19" Rev4 props for this model boat and the new Eco wheels bested all previously recorded tests I have found and far passed all previous data I have accumulated on past trips. The return trip as you will see at the end of this video, was an absolutely brutal affair and I am convinced there is no other prop that holds the water in a side or following sea like the Enertia Eco!!
I also switched the Mercury Verado JPO steering fluid from the Mercury/Quicksilver brand to the Mobil1 ESP 0W-30 Advanced Synthetic oil for all the hydraulics. This oil is formulated specifically for all Porsche, Mercedes-Benz & VW vehicles where the highest pressures created by today's diesel and direct injected engines demand more performance. It also has a very low ash content so while not being used for a combustion process, gives incredible protection of all metals against corrosion or the absorption of air/water which is what kills the Steering Actuators. This ability to fight against thermal rise when put to the test is also what reduces the oxidation levels, again saving your steering actuator & pump from destruction internally.

Once again I have proven @UnstoppableMorgan is completely WRONG in that a large boat can successfully piloted solo without issues. Now that she's back on @CZcams , and almost daily... she can pay her debts to those she owes money to!

Looks like you had a great trip and the boat handled it well! I have to be honest, if I’m solo, I would probably throw a PFD on, but it’s your life to live.
Definitely a good call. There’s always the chance of being thrown off an “unsinkable” boat.
I would wear a PFD and be tethered to the boat if I was alone✌❤🤗SAFETY FIRST
Great setup!!
Epic....... I'm jelly !!
Great video
My dream boat.
The Whaler 420 is not the fastest of the big center consoles but it is without any doubt the most comfortable
Great video. Really impressed with how that boat handles the waves. I am just gonna say it’s safer to travel with others - give me a call 😊
Very nice boat.
What a trip!
It sure was one of those amazing Bucket-List kinda weeks!!
That's an impressive boat.
One of my favorites and if the owner had kept it… it was getting repowered with the Mercury 400R V10 outboards
@@DavidWilks I'm very new to the hobby so forgive my ignorance but from what I've seen about those V10s, they seem to have a lot of weight per horsepower compared to the 450 R or the V12 Mercs (which are also heavy but obviously powerful). I guess in a boat this heavy it's silly to worry about such things.
My dream boat😊
It’s one of the most amazing boats ever!!!
i wouldn't dare go on such a long trip all on my own
When you have a boat like the Boston Whaler 420 Outrage... the distance seems far less than the fuel this boat burns.
Terrific video. Very impressive that the 420 can cruise at 29 knots in 6-footers. Curious why you needed an I-pad for navigation -- why aren't the Raymarine chartplotters as good? If the 420 is so impressive, why are you selling it?
The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Active Tab 10 which is fully waterproof, has a 16hour useful battery at full brightness and updates via Wifi & Cellular so I have 100% the most accurate tide, route and tracking data available. I use it because I am not always on the same vessel, going places where I want the tracks from previous trips. Additionally this boat has the Northeast maps loaded onto the database and I did not see the necessary expense of updating the maps when the new buyer can do that. I also am not a fan of Raymarine's fishfinder... it is archaic when compared to the Garmin's mapping of the fish and sea bottom.
The reason for selling is the owner is a connoisseur of high performance cars as well... and looking to buy something larger with more power and not a gasoline generator. This is kinda like the 7.3L Excursion 4x4 and he is wanting something more in the lines of a Raptor-R.
Hey David, I just took delivery of my 2017 420. Can you tell me the exact size for the enertia props that you are using? Is the boat really getting .68 mpg with the new props? Thanks in advance! Beautiful boat!
Yes it is. I used the 18” Enertia Eco props and bought them from Offshore Performance in Ft Myers, Florida
David, what MPG did you get before the enertia props if you recall? Great stuff
I can't afford this boat, but even if I could, the hardtop supports resting on the gunwales would be a deal breaker! Could you imagine being hooked onto a monster tuna and having to go one handed while you awkwardly maneuvered around those supports? Outstanding boat, but no thanks. Unless I could get one that has supports like a center console does. Allowing 360° unobstructed fishing access.
I understand why they would be there if it had a fly bridge, but it doesn't.
It would be faster, get better fuel efficiency and be more fishable, if they weren't there on this non-fly model!
link for the props?
You have one of the hardest job nice video I would love to e able to do that it I get sea sick 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🍺🍺 Let’s go Brandon And FJB !
Id do something like this but im 2 poor
Me too!
