    You know, that's one thing I do not miss about airline flying: hanging out in the thirties where all the other traffic is (not to mention most of the rough air...) Now that I'm retired from all that I'm flying Merlins and KIng Airs, and we cruise in the low to mid twenties. It's consistently smoother and there's much less traffic - almost none at all.

    Look at 48 seconds. Cloud helps us see how fast these go. If its filed with plain background it just feel like nothing is moving.

    It's cool to think, the closing distance between two converging aircraft like that would easily be over the speed of sound.

    • @hooker1304
      @hooker1304 Před 10 lety +16

      Water vapour is one of the main products from an engine exhaust. The increase in water vapour in the air created by the engine can raise the humidity of the air past saturation point (the point where it cannot hold any more water). Due to the cold temperatures at high altitudes it condenses into tiny water droplets/ice crystals (like when you get water form on cold windows in winter), which is the visible white stuff you can see. I hope this helps!

    • @AaaaNinja
      @AaaaNinja Před 3 lety

      They're called contrails. The air up there is COLD it's the same stuff as when you exhale on a cold day. They're created depending on the humidity of the air it passes through, the moisture turns into ice crystals.

    Those aircraft coming at you are like cruise missiles heading your way, but with hundreds of human lives on board. As for the millions doing their thing on the ground thousands of feet below. Well the majority don't give a jot about the busy highway being played out above their heads. Perhaps they should.
