Your commentary about all of the little nods to book canon are so spot on. I am very excited to see them fold in more book lore in season two. Especially with all of the possibilities for more Jesper backstory!!!

the heist sequence might be my favorite sequence in s1, it felt so true to the crows!!! except one inej almost stabs kaz, cause she def would know his stance anywhere. also i'm dying, i didn't notice jesper snacking in nina's room. but yeah i hope they go deeper into his character cause he has LAYERS
I agree that she would have known it was him but also their little interaction we get out of this scene is so good so I’m like ok fine 😂 but YES they have to give us all of Jesper!! 🥰
I think she knew it was him and was just playing around. In the books, Inej mentions how she "tried to sneak up on Kaz a hundred times" after they met but he always knew she was there and it drove her crazy. And if you look closely at the scene, Inej appears to turn her knife so she would have stuck Kaz with the handle -- not the blade. So I think this was a nod to that book part.

She was a white woman heavily covered in makeup to make her look like Amita - so basically, in brown face. Which is…. pretty terrible.

I'm 100% HERE for the Kanej fangirling. 😆😂❤I read how Leigh said SAB is basically a "fan fiction" version of the Six of Crows characters and to expect changes. So while I LOVE the show version (and am very excited for S2), the books are way better in my opinion. Kanej's book story is my top-favorite YA romance because it's so uniquely done and so healthy. At least compared to other YA romances. I'm here for all the fangirling!
In side notes, I caught that too with Inej clearly uncomfortable with the guy grabbing her and the subtle "shake it off" gesture she did. I wish they were clearer about what happened to Inej and gave a more in-depth look at her trauma aside from the few mentions. The girl is a human trafficking survivor, ripped from her loving family (in the show they even give her a brother that was also sold), endured violent abuse at the Menagarie (physical/mental/SA as she talks about in the books), and in the books we see her struggle with PTSD from it. That's why we LOVE her character; she endured so much violence and yet came out this badass survivor ready to defend the innocent.
I know some fans complained about the show being too subtle about Inej's abuse in S1. Especially when it's blunt in the books about what happened to her. So hopefully, we see that struggle in S2 and see her open up about how her past and her dreams of ending human trafficking. (I wonder if they're going to expand the missing brother storyline. I hope they make the most of that new storyline!)
On a positive note, I also read that S2 is supposed to REALLY feed us Kanej fans. They're hyping that up so I'm hoping they deliver! ☺🙏
I aaaabsolutely agree that book kanej and show kanej are different but I am just so excited for some of the scenes from the book so I want their dynamic to be similar so they deliver the same feeling I had while reading the book, you know? I do consider them like two versions of these characters I love tho, which is why I always say like just give me more anyway and I’ll be happy 😂 also I feel like their dynamic and the length of their slow burn works really well in the books but might not translate as well on the screen, so I understand some of the writers’ decisions! And in some way, the show being kind of like a fanfiction makes it super exciting because we never know for sure what’s gonna happen 👀 so I appreciate that, as long as they keep them in character because you know… I adore them 😂❤️
I also wish they had explored Inej’s trauma more! Maybe they will this season, although it seems we’re getting a lot of Jesper and Kaz backstory - which I’m also VERY excited about obviously! I think we’ll be getting more at some point 👀 it’s such an important part of the book and it’s so well done, so I would be disappointed if we didn’t get to dive deeper into Inej’s character for sure.
YES give us all the kanej feels, I am so ready 😌✨
