    I am a beginner welder and have watched a bunch of Beginner Welder videos. This video was way more helpful, and felt more like being in a welding shop and having someone actually explain what is happening with your fails and how to fix it; thanks Trev!

    I have a similar R Tec welder. I am not a professional but my welds were acceptable. When teaching my son the basics of welding we found R Tec had a settings table that was downloadable from their web site. Then just a bit of fine tuning. The worst thing, My son had a natural flare for it , And shows me how to do it better. A great video and thanks for doing them.

    Trev, I have been worrying myself senseless in trying to be taught welding. Being on the Isle of Wight, there is nothing but between you and Matt's channels, I have learned a great deal, from you the basics up to intermediate and with Matt, the little tricks to get a job done. I hope that you are keeping safe and are not bored in this dreadful lock down but you have your workshop as an outlet. Thank you so much. David

    Hi Trev, with your R-Tec 180 Mig Welder having a No Gas Flux Core capability, would it be possible for you to do an episode in one of your future blogs on working outside of the garage/workshop in the open air doing Gasless Mig Welding and some of the magnificent bodywork fabrication that you do. The reason I ask for this is it’s not always possible to work in a limited space garage/workshop, and I feel a lot of other people besides myself would find this episode very useful and informative. I follow your blogs and I’am always amazed at your fabrication skills you are one of the best I’ve ever seen. All the best to you stay safe.

    Well put across Trev , I don't have to bother with all that as I have a GYS smartmig - dead quick and simple set up - what I would mention is the importance of a good earth/ground/return MIG can be sensitive to that and have you fiddling with wire speed etc , when in fact its the the naughty little ground connection .

    I can't wait for #3 as that is the most confusing thing I have found while trying my hand at mig welding. With regards to volts,my confusion comes from having 240 volts house power (USA has 110 120) and I can't work out what volts are in a welder when they talk about 60 volts eg. against what I thought voltage is. This is going to be a great series.

    Hi.
    Something I think you forgot to mention that you probably should have, is mentioning that you use CO2 or CO2 mix (gas) to create an atmosphere that your weld metal can work in its molten state. Also maybe you should mention that using a thin wire such as .9mm copper coated solid wire would require far less heat than the likes of 1.2 or 1.6mm and is suitable for such work? I'm a boilermaker welder with 18 years of experience who's been asked to do a panel beaters/sheet metal worker job (replace a roof on a 70 Holden Torana), so thought I'd check out a video done by a panel beater. Otherwise it's a good video.

      @trevsblog  Před 4 lety +1

      Jon H as far as MIG welding is concerned on car bodywork the techniques are more about doing a short blast of welding opposed to laying beads due to the heat distortion issues. Travel speed on bodywork is more relevant to TIG welding. Cheers Trev 👍

    Really great video! As it happens, I received my new inverter welder today. It has got the regular current and wire speed adjustments as I would expect, but it is also possible to adjust voltage down by 10volts or up by 10volts. The manual say its an "Arc length adjustment" but I'm unsure of what effect this has on the weld. As you said in the video, my old transformer welder only had the stepped 1-6 "power" settings.

    • @trevsblog
      @trevsblog  Před 4 lety +1

      wyldcard I don’t know for sure but I would guess that it’s mimicking what your old welder would be doing by stepping up or down a setting. I’m going to try and explain the whole volts and amps confusion in part 3. Think of volts as being used by your welder to make internal adjustments to keep the weld running correctly, it’s monitoring a voltage drop then making internal adjustments in order to maintain the voltage you have set, and then think of the amps as the thing that creates the heat. As confusing as it seems volts don’t create heat amps do. Cheers Trev

      Sammy are you using a bead roller to put that line in?

      @@trevsblog I had a couple of goes at it. I made 2 door skins. The first I tried a bead roller , the next an English wheel, but they both worked in creating the line but tend to flatten the panel a bit. I tried to use (what I call ) a chaser (like a very blunt chisel) and tap it from the back along the swag line to stretch it back to a crown , but I wasn't all that successful so I thought seeing pro like your self do it would be great.
      Its an old Alfetta Sedan. If you search for a picture on the net , about hip height there is a line going horizontal across the door. I started by wheeling the skin to the right crown but getting that hip line in causing me grief
      any chance you can do a video doing something similar or provide any clues ?

    Thanks again for great information and helping me become less stupid. I have a long way to go so keep it up. I guess I am missing something, but what is up with the “Here’s Johnny “?

      Sorry I didn’t clarify my question. What is “Here’s Johnny”? I don’t understand the reference. Is it from a movie?

      Thanks. I am not much of a movie watcher. I probably only see one every 6-8 years. Now I understand the reference.
