- čas přidán 3. 03. 2023
- This video showcases my brand new 32 mm gauge custom Roundhouse Engineering Bertie. The engine is decorated as a War Department locomotive by Roundhouse. It pulls a Jennie tender, which carries a radio control receiver and batteries. Other custom features include a water sight glass and refill Goodall valve system.
In this video I show how to fill the gas, water, and compound steam lubricating oil. Then I run this engine for the very first time on my Pencross Railway of Vancouver Island.

Check out this engine running on my teeny indoor layout! czcams.com/video/SHDgVh8FIPc/video.html
5:41 Mamods may have fun in their quirkiness, but a Roundhouse loco is up into a a whole new level of quality engineering
Indeed. I do love my two Mamods for various different reasons. But this engine is awesome in every way.
Had a great time again! Thanks for having me over.
It was fun!
You are definitely tempting me towards live steam, Terry.
Must....... resist............!!!!
Fun being a part of this one. Cheers Mate!
Resistance is futile. Bwa ha ha haaa. However, a live steam engine true to your fine 1:20.3 scale would be very expensive. Accucraft have appropriate engines but wow, pricey.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Yes, Accucraft sent C-25s out just before Christmas I think. They are rather nice, but near 5 grand I think. As I ideally would like a K-36 or K-37, I guess they'd be towards the 6 or 7 thousand mark,... that's if they decide to do them.
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy yep. Not cheap.
Great rolling stock....Roundhouse are always smooooooth attention to detail, dedicated staff
I am impressed with Roundhouse for sure. The rolling stock was very easy to put together. Being made from resin they feel very solid.
Looking into getting a Roundhouse Lilla, this little series proves they're the right builder to go with.
Nick, I have Accucraft, Regner and Mamod engines. The Roundhouse stand out. I posted this video yesterday and it shows three RH engines. I am very pleased with mine. czcams.com/video/sa_Mr82bd_I/video.html
Everything is absolutely brillant! Perfect video! Thanks a lot.
Thanks Ernst! I appreciate your saying so. ☺️
A great looking train with such an interesting collection of wagons that all go so well together. Oh, and the liquid sunshine added to the occasion as well LOL! RH suggested a 10 hour run in period for my Katie (Percy). It ran so smoothly from the start so I didn't think it would get any better, but it has improved with time. Mine will pull a rake of wagons hauling granite in the order of 30lbs! I think I'm correct in saying both our locos have the same cylinders so once it's done a few runs, load it up with rocks and listen to beautiful chuffing music.
This is good to know Steve. It was super smooth. If it gets better that will be amazing.
Runs great sounds great looks great.Well worth the wait.
Just love it Terry.
Now to start saving.I want one too😊
You can’t replace the fun quirkiness of the Mamod Brunel and the fact it has its oddnesses. But for near the same price the basic Bertie is amazing. As I mentioned I decided to get it over the Mamod Sterling or Quarry because Roundhouse will add a water sight glass. On the detailed invoice the cost of the sight glass and extra labour to add it was less than I expected! Of course, adding a Jennie tender with RC drove the price up. But still a bargain in my opinion (well, ‘bargain’ in the live steam world). And THANKS for lending your voice to the video!!
Wow! Nice Locomotive Terry!! 😍 The little personality's each have makes it so much fun to watch! 😂
Thanks Richard! 😊
Love that little locomotive! Your videos keep tempting me to try out live steam.
Live steam is a… druuug. Careful. Lol
Brilliant and I love all the voiceovers
Thanks Jo! The voice stuff is fun. I write a silly little script and send the script to all and they send me back voices and I edit it all together, which is a bit of work because their recordings are at different levels and whatnot. Good fun. Perhaps I need to find a Jo figurine?
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Agreed, definitely good fun and even better once it all comes together in the video.
@@watchfordpilot your being modest Steve. Your and Alison add a lot. Jo, Alison does community theatre over there in Merry England. Steve, Jo and I have leads together in an upcoming comedy/drama she co-wrote. Jo is awesome on stage and I have done theatre with her lots!
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi That would be smashing! She could be .....waiting for her soldier to come home.....OR a station master or conductor, who knows? ...OR even a damsel in distress tied to the railway track!
@@jodance1000 lol. I need to source some more figurines.
Nice run Terry, I will send you an email with some pics. of the car port layout and the new engine house soon. Keep up the good work.
Awesome!! I have been wondering how your progress has been.
Nice engine and figures Terry.
Thanks Hunter.
Brilliant engine there. I have a Mamod Stirling that I've only just started using now I've got my planter railway laid down, it was seeing some of your videos that made me think of doing it. I have to say that after some running in that is now running brilliantly, it was a bit hit and miss to begin with but now gives really nice running at slow speeds, think I'll have to get the servo tender for it after seeing this 👍
Awesome!! I’m so glad to hear you have a planter railway. ☺️ The absolute best thing about this is the servo tender for sure.
Will you do a vid of your planter and loco?
Yes I will do. Track needs a little more work and I'm waiting on delivery of a Mamod Boulton and Tram so should make a nice video with everything running together
@@ben2692 awesome!!
Awesome
It’s a great train. The Swift Sixteen wagons look great with the engine.
That’s a neat little engine!
Thanks! It certainly is. I am already in love with it and I only ran it the one time. Lol. So far…
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Now that the weather is turning a little warmer in the southeast U.S. you’re making me want to run my Mamod locomotive again. 😂
@@H.O.Scalemodeler4501 twisting your arm, hey? Lol.
@@H.O.Scalemodeler4501 Which Mamod do you have?
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi An old SL1 I believe. It was heavily upgraded by the previous owner. New cylinders, Goodall valve, lubricator, uprated safety valve, repaint, 3D printed batter/receiver box (which I removed and added to a custom tender), and cab regulator. All for the price of an unmodified MSS kit. Most of the time after upgrading a Mamod fully you end up paying the price of a nicer locomotive from accucraft or roundhouse. However I was lucky.
Idea:Try putting a hole in your wall, so the inside layout meets the outside layout, easy transport.
Great idea. However, this is not the house we’ll retire in. We are already planning that house and it includes a ground floor hobby room where the trains will go through the wall and into the garden.
Oh
Fab videos terry dave Bradford West Yorkshire
Thanks Dave! Glad you liked them. The thing I have loved most about starting my channel has been connecting in this way to people from all over the world. Cheers, Terry
I should have asked this sooner - where did you get that dual gauge track?
I made it. The track started out as old Aristocraft Aluminum rail track. I got a lot of just aluminum rail, made myself a track gauge, and went along and screwed the rail down to the ties (not every tie!). Aluminum bends easy and it was a fairly easy job. The switch point was a challenge but I made it work.
I just remembered I made a video about it: czcams.com/video/FozsOF9L6W4/video.html
Who's track support columns are they? Would be perfect for my balcony
I don’t remember the brand name. I got them here in Canada around Canadian Tire. They are aluminum saw horse legs. I still have them but in the attic of the garage until I can start building something new in the Spring.
Ah! These are them. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/certified-galvanized-extendable-sawhorse-leg-2x4-pk-0580347p.0580347.html?gbraid=0AAAAADojZpggLYHFCzV-Q6t-U1d8Kq8bQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1NTIgY6VhAMVpFJHAR2zMAQVEAQYASABEgJHL_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#store=625
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi thanks Terry, I'm in UK btw, I will have to have a look round locally for some
@@Mr-Steam 👍😊
Splendid little engine
Dont ye think its time for a coal fired one?
I have always wanted a coal fired one but they are very very expensive.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-CobiCan imagine
I saw a k38 for R25k
How the blases people aford that
Then you get the coal fired version
I think it was 28
@@laaity generally I find coal engine and cola converted engine to be twice as much.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Maybe you should make that one engine thats made of salvaged parts a coal burner
@@laaity I wonder… that engine would need a tray below it to burn coal in. But it would not have forced draught so I am not sure how good it would be. I wonder if anyone has coal fired the basic Mamod or MSS loco… I’ll have to go on a search.
🤣
You can come for a turnip cook up too.
Yes theres always plenty of turnips to go round😁
@@davidwhite1864 you and turnips are now a thing in my vids Dave.
Only happy to be part of it Terry👍
Fantastic video Terry! 😊
