A simple video showing how easy sand casting is. Petrobond does not require venting because the grain size of the sand is large enough that air and gases can escape through the sand itself unlike more compact brands. www.diycastings.com/

You're a really cool fella craig. I'm jealous. Was that hunk of junk piece of silver you melted something you'd crafted before? It looked handmade to me. Anyways, Thanks for this channel, I'm going to enjoy watching your work.

Hello Craig, have you attempted to create a hollow form type ring shape (not hollow though, same shape but solid) with this method instead of plain Jane wedding band? I’m currently attempting as I speak...I will let you know how it comes out, I did to have make some extra adjustments in addition to the standard method, I’m getting ready to pour in the mold now... would be great to know your thoughts about this...thx

Most anything will sand cast as long as it has no negative areas to trap clay. This is one of my earlier videos but now I'm doing sand casting with cores or stone in place and having success with both.

Hello Craig, what is the best silver alloy for sand casting ? the sterlig silver(925) or other? I try 990% silver and results are very bad,it seems adition of copper into silver make the alloy more quick runing into molds cavities...

Pure metal like Fine silver is very difficult to cast because it has no alloy and basically draws from itself as it cools often causing cavities or dips in the surface. Sterling silver is best!

What is the name of the material used in the molds? Is it normal sand or a special material?

I suppose I'm a bit late to answer this but the owl is called a pattern that is pre made specifically for sand casting.

Hello, I noticed there was no vent added other than the pour hole. Is that why you dug around the sides a bit?

    • @craigdabler-thediycastings7511

I'm glad you asked this because it made me realize I needed to edit the description. Petrobond being a larger grain sand doesn't pack as tightly so venting isn't necessary. Air and gases can escape through the sand itself.
