Gimbal Showdown - DJI Ronin S, Zhiyun Weebill S, Moza Aircross 2, and Moza Air 2

- Gimbals are becoming as ubiquitous as the cameras they're supposed to hold, and lots of companies are releasing their own flavor... so which one's the best value? I've collected 4 similarly priced and equally popular gimbals over the past year - The DJI Ronin S, Zhiyun Weebill S, Moza Aircross 2, and Moza Air 2 for a showdown in my own style. I'm comparing the following:
- Price
- Weight
- Size
- Maximum weight limit
- Daily use
- Battery charging
- Battery life
- Sport mode speed
- ...Various other things. Just watch the video.
I DIDN'T talk about: What cameras are supported (always being updated with firmware), interface from working with actual camera controls on the gimbal, features missing or extra features within each gimbal's app, or every accessory available. I don't care about that stuff, and I rarely use the camera controls on the gimbal. My approach with gimbal work is somewhat minimalist.

Have you seen the Pocket RGB Showdown? Go watch it! czcams.com/video/zOMKQtrh-8s/video.html
Nope. I'll watch, thanks.
If you don't care or could bare the weight of ronin s, go for ronin s, now the essential kit just cost $386.
If you care about the weight but no plan to load the heavier lenses, go for ronin sc
Then moza aircross 2.
Never go to weebill s, so many issues with it, like the roll horizontal issue (always tilted a little bit right or left), and it more hands like a TOY rather than a tool.
(One thing I really don't like is, weebill s sell around $270 in China, but $399 here. Personally I just thought it's over-'valued' here)
One of the easiest reviewers to listen to, knows his shit, and doesn't mess around with stupid gimmicks. Love your work mate, keep those vids comin!
Thanks! I really appreciate comments like yours. Makes it worth it!
Amazing review. I came to the exact conclusion you did after thinking, reading and watching for 2 years prior.
Just purchased the Weebill S for its small form factor, under slung mode and heaviest payload when considering size and weight.
Yo! This video was perfect man. Can’t thank you enough. Don’t see how anyone gave a thumbs down. Super detailed review. Answered all my questions. Been watching your journey for a while! Thanks for the Qaulify content
Thanks man, I appreciate that. :)
Thank you so much for this clever, well-designed, comparison video. It was so helpful to see the point scales. I'm impressed with the Weebill S, thus far, because portability is so important along with ease of use and strong motors.
I have paired my Weebill S with a7iii and Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens, resulting in amazing footage during shoots. I did buy a 3rd party grip handle from Amazon for 15 bucks which solved the problem stated by Tommy.
I really like that way of reviewing. This was helpful to me. Thanks.
More coming. :)
Amazing work! The presentation quality great!
Best reviews I’ve come across 👌
these are the best comparison videos on youtube
Thank you - my favorite compliment ever. These videos take SO long to plan create the way I want. I'm glad you appreciated it!
The AirCross 2 is climbing to the top of my gimbal purchase list. That integration with the Slypod, combined with the small size and portability of the Slypod is making it an enticing choice for getting creative with moves.
Hey Tommy, thank you for this video, it really helped a lot 👍🏻😁
Glad it helped!
Great Review! Just recently bought the weebill s. Luckily my phone was on the compatibility list for the ZY Play app. Pairing was seamless and all of the app function works.
Good to hear! I might have to try the app again soon.. haha
Good job man! Good info and helpful.
The discussion was interesting and worth listening to.... the scoring was close to random though :)
You can add the same "motion control" point to the weebill-s too. It can work in conjunction with the YC Onion Slider nicknamed Hot Dog 3. Basically you get a slider coupled to a gimbal and use the same app (way better now) to control both.
Tommy, this is extremely helpful and informative and interesting video! Thx much! 💛😎
Thanks for watching, Glen!
Thank you for mentioning my video 🤙 awesome comparison video. ! 🙏
No prob, and thanks! You make good stuff, keep it up.
@@TommyCallaway 🤝👍 thanks. I appreciate it and I plan to !
So what more good moza aircross 2 or weebil s?
The weebill s has a lock mechanism for the sling mode tripod handle, putting that much torque on that with the lock ON is the sound of you breaking the plastic
Thanks for the review, it helped me to make my choice.
Came here for the Gimbals, ended up buying the Moza Slypod. Thanks to you I knew of it's existence.
No prob! I finally bought a rhino arc 2 myself the other day. The Slypod is great for some specific things but I needed the workflow optimization and time savings of a dedicated system
@@TommyCallaway bro! do a video on the Rhino Arc II! What are u waiting on?! lol
Waiting on shipping. It was on Backorder for over a month.. canceled my order and bought a used one. Should be here next week.
@@TommyCallaway awesome sauce! i'm looking forward!
hey tommy love the showdowns, you didn't talk about the transmission kit for the weebill s and the transmount quick change mounts by zhiyun(game changer lol)-- also would be great if u had a cutaway link to the end sort of a tl:dr for a quick wrap, but that aside you're killing it!
I had the same issue pairing the Weebill S. I can tell you it is totally cool when you get it. Select the tab on the upper left to select the correct picture Weebill S to pair. It actually paired really easily. You can use your phone to move it around. The initial mistake I made was pairing the Weebill 2 that shows on the screen. That is the wrong one. Strangely, the Weebill S doesn't show, you have to find it to pair. Good luck.
Pretty cool comparison. I am looking still closely at the Zhiyun Weebill S. I don't think I will need to torque the handle as tight as maybe some folks till. Also a thin neoprene washer might afford more grip between the grip and angled mount. Just thinking there. I have an a7ii also and want an a7rii later. I am one those who gets bargains and makes a go with them the best way I can. Would love an a7iii. Still spendy for me though. May just get an a7iii and trade in the a7ii. We'll see. But the Ronin was a big contender for me, but being such a pain to setup plus no locks. Not thrilled with that. The more stable app for the Ronin is cool as my tablet or smartphone will come into play as an interface. The Zhiyun does concern me with its wonky app operation etc. but it is now 6 months later so maybe they got it together now. Good audio in your production by the way. You sound great. Yeah, I am one of those audiophiles. I worry more it will sound bad than look bad.
Very helpful comparison! Do you know whether any of these have full functionality with older DSLR cameras, particularly the 5D Mark II?
Yours reviews excite me like Street Fighter used to.
Hi! Great video! Would you know which of these gimbals are compatible (i.e., balancing and firmware controls) with the Sony PWX Z90?
So detailed, thank you 🙏🏽
No prob!
Nice work, bro!
Oh! Love your lights!!!
Thank you! Lights are awesome!
Tommy Callaway indeed, they are magic when used properly 👍
Great detailed review! First time stumbling upon your channel, obviously hit subscribe.
Wondering if you have ever done a video on your audio setup on those voice-over cutaways when you were lit up in red before, because that sounded great.
Thanks man! The audio setup is pretty much identical to the rest of the video - only difference being mic placement (which you can see). I was moving around with too much chaos with the gimbals, and that light below me created some undesirable audio reflections, i missed the sweet spot during a lot of the presentation. At about 7 minutes in this video: czcams.com/video/qsnQpTEQRSM/video.html I go through my most recent iteration on the sound stand. The equipment is pretty much the same as far as recording and power, but now it just moves around a lot better.
@@TommyCallaway Woah! I really appreciated the super fast and detailed response! I'm gonna dive into that video, and many more of yours I'm sure!
I work in film production (in the production department) and only recently took a dive into the actual creative filmmaking world myself (thanks quarantine!), and audio is definitely a major weak point of mine, but also looking to jump into that gimbal world, which is what lead me here, haha.
that was a pleasure. great thanks
Thanks alot was about to buy now I know wat I should use on my canon D7
Awesome review of all gimbals! Gotta ask - what type of quick release plates are you showing off here?
Hey, I was wondering about your quickrelease plates. Are they arca swiss? If yes, what are they called??
I own a weebillS and mine works fine
The app works great ( the app connect super fast) i never had a problem with it
Soooo helpful. Would u be able to do one including the Ronin SC?? Might just with the lighter set ups. Briefly go over some of these and just add the sc.
Hi Tommy! Very nice video, thanks for sharing! Have you got any recommendations for a gimbal that can hold the Fuji X-T3 with 50-140mm F/2.8 (or another mirrorless with 70-200-ish lens)? I would like to get a gimbal that is not too big, but most gimbals don't seem to be able hold the weight (balance-wise) or just bump into the camera for some movements. Do you have any experience with this?
Same question here
For me as a traveler small size is a huge issue. I love the size of the Weebill S for what it can do and it's payload capacity-I would go with the G6 max if I could but I have the Sony A6600 and a variety of lenses and don't believe that the longer zoom lenses or even some of the prime lenses will be stable on the g6 max gimbal. I'll be purchasing an extended warranty for the gimbal, assuming I go with the Weebill S-and may go ahead and take a chance with the locking arms, etc. with my warranty. Thanks, again for a great review. I would love to see the G6 max and the Weebill S side by side since many of us want a small gimbal for our mirrorless cameras and the G6 max is close to meeting the requirement. My payload would be, for example, a Sony A6600 plus 30 mm Sigma, 16mm sigma, and sony various zooms. Thanks again!
Zhyuin crane plus is still a great gimba especially for the sony camerasl. It's the steadiest of any gimbal I've used or seen. Even when I had my bmpcc 4k on it upside down lol it was still more steady than my moza air 2. I can't get stable shots with that thing. I just recalibrated it so hopefully that helps.
I bought the Moza Air Cross a couple of years ago and generally like it. I thought your review was pretty accurate and fair. It works well and (after a lot of practice), it can be balanced relatively easily. I think the advertised weight capacity is exaggerated. My biggest complaint is that there is no option for a cross arm, which I think would make it easier to operate. .... Thanks for the video.
How you turn motor on the aircross 2 to the left side? And can it be done with other gimbals?
Dear, I saw the Moza aircross 2 hand grip design. And I think it's not confortable to use for 1 hour, for example?
Am I correct?
What quick release plates do you use? I need one of those for sure
Great video. Thank you.
Hey, great video. What quick release plates do you use ?
Well done!
👍⭐️Excellent! Thank you so much. 💝
Hi Tommy ! Can i use the MOZA Aircross 2 with my 1DXII ?
great video !
Just found your channel. I know this is kinda old, but I'm also kinda old, so I'm just getting into making some movies and want to do some good quality stuff. I appreciate your presentation and work in the video production. Very well done. I'm now also looking at your recording equipment. :) I'm leaning toward the Moza Air 2 with iFocus since it's so cost effective. Now I see the Moza Aircross 3 is available, so that is certainly a contender, with its upgrades from the 2. Thanks again for the info.
Awesome review! Thank you. I have the ronin sc and I want to sell it, not cause isn’t good, but because I got the canon EOS R with the 24-105 lens and it’s a bit tight. Can’t do all the movements I would like...., would love to get the C although I heard it’s heavier than the SC. Thanks again, man
Tommy, another excellent video. Curious, though, I've had the AirCross 2 for a couple months, and almost never have had to dip into using the app for any regular shooting situation. Wondering what you've needed to do that you couldn't accomplish with the scroll wheel and OLED screen?
Is the moza aircross 2 so good?.
Or i just buy the weebil s?. .
Job for wedding and sport 😊
@@HantuBorneo I haven't used the Weebil S, but the Aircross 2 has been excellent for me.
Nice work👍
You have a very good presentation style and your detail was exceptional but, playing musical chair with the gimbals for each category made following one gimbal, let alone following all of them extremely challenging. Also your scores for each category flashed too quickly for me to track and you didn’t show the scoring totals for each gimbal, which seems to be the crux of the review. I appreciate your inclusion of the two external tools as well as the product links. You seem to have an excellent handle on real world use for each product and I’ve subscribed to your channel-I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks.
What RBG teal lights are those gimbals standing on?
Lets all chip in with some $$ for Tommy's sturdy desk, just so we dont get motion sickness, lol... No seriously, I'm not investing in a gimbal til issues with Fuji X-T3 is sorted (X-T4 around the corner), I'll tough it out with my Feiyu for now... Love your work Tommy
hahaha.. it's more sturdy than it used to be, but I think I need to get two small monopoles with a superclamp on each side for my "ideal" situation.. I'll explain it in another video. It's just a light panel on a rolling combo stand, and inherently is wobbly, but could be made more sturdy.
New desk is built.. along with the rest of my studio. Rebuild video incoming in a few days.
@@TommyCallaway looking forward to it..
Hello Tommy, I would like to get your opinion on the Zeapon Micro 2 connected to the Moza Gimbal if you've used this combination. I just watched a really cool video where they use the Zeaopn connected to the Webill-S. Before dropping money on this combination I would like to get a second opinion.
never have i been so early for a video in my life
You win!
@@TommyCallaway the video was great! We have 2 Ronin S's right now. I've been thinking about selling the oldest one to get a Weebill S, mostly for portability. This video helps to confirm that decision!
@@MikeMarrah Thanks for watching, and I'm glad it was informative. It took me 3 weeks to make it! lol
Hi.Great video. What type of quick mount did you use to attach to the Moza Aircross 2?
It comes with a standard quick release plate.
thanks for the video! i wouldve loooooved some timestamps there to check every aspect =)
How is the best gimbal for canon 800d? Good jobs
Have you had a chance to use the Ronin SC? I'm trying to decide between that and the Weebill S. I have a Panasonic G9 by the way.
Unfortunately I’ve never played with the SC, sorry Vlad! I hear it’s a lot like the AirCross 2.
Which one is ideal for the D7500
What do you guys think about Moza AirCross 2 for action filming?
Hey! Thanks for your Review But can You break everything into one Word? I am getting the Gimble this Weekend and Moza Air cross 2 and Weebill S Are actually at same price just some difference in the price the air cross 2 is a Lil cheaper but I am confused which should I get?
Since this video, I've given away / sold all the gimbals except for the moza aircross 2.
I just grabbed an xt3, so this video was right on time. I was wondering if the xt3 was compatible with the weebill.
You’re going to love the XT3! What gimbal do you plan on getting after watching the video?
@@TommyCallaway I was leaning towards the Weebill S, then the Aircross 2, but this video made me more confident in the Weebill. I couldn't find many videos with a Fuji and Weebill S, or most were talking about the Weebill Lab.
Bro please tell which is best for wedding and prewedding..???? Up down round fast focus ..auto focus..etc
Of this lineup, I sold everything except the Moza AirCross 2.
Tommy, you should do a slider showdown. Particularly between the Edelkrone setup vs. the Rhino Arc II setup. I've been dying to see a *non-sponsored video about either of those.
* That doesn't suck.
I want to do this one too. I will need a 3rd party sponsor to jump in and help make it happen.
@@TommyCallaway Throw in a cheeper brand too. I always love those "is it really worth it" type of reviews too.
@@markbenavides3345 Way ahead of you. Also need to get a kessler crane system in here.
Yes! I would also love to see a slider showdown.
Hi Tommy, great content. We USE the Air 2 and lab s, but still miss the ronin s from time to time. AS for motorized sliders would you include the syrp 3 axis system as well? Thanks!
I just got the weebill S for my a6300. Would a 18-105mm lens be too heavy for the gymbal?
Brayan Barranza have you tried it
Hi tomy
I have a sony alpha a7rii and a samyang 24mm lens.
What do you recommend the Moza air 2 or the zhiyun weebill s?
I would roll with the Weebill S out of those two.
@@TommyCallaway
Thank you very much teacher for your quick response.
Great video, but.... FEWER buttons, not "less buttons". MANY/FEW are number of something. MORE/LESS are amount of something. Few ice cubes. Less ice.
Perfect video for me my brother!!! Pricing my first gimble. Like'd and Sub'd. God bless you.
Bro I’m fluent in Chinese and still can’t pronounce Zhiyun 🤣
Some say they're still figuring it out themselves as well
Zi- yoon
My friend selling me moza air 1 for 140 $ and the zhiyun weebel s new one costs 350 $ which should I go ?
Hey can you do a review of the moza aircross 3 please
@TommyCallaway Bruh! I need to know more about those quick release plates!! Can I get those on Amazon??
I have a a7r111 that I use with Canon 16-35 f4 and a metabone adapter. I'm a video newby. What is best for me? Perhaps the problem is the dimensions more than weight. I'll be sure to subscribe, really like how clearly you inform.
hello, the display screen on my moza air 2 recently went blank after a firmware update please do you have any idea how to downgrade a firmware update
Hi, did you resolve this issue? Which firmware was it?
This showdowns are awesome. Will there come more of them?
Yes, I have a few in the works!!!
do you have video on your video rendering settings? because i Have very good quality when my video is opened on my PC but after it is uploaded on youtube in gets blurry and pixelated. I have tried so many ways to upload, and only way I get youtube to reach the same quality is upload at least 1440 which looks like my 1080 (opened on PC) So weird
I usually upload everything in 4k.. try that first before redoing your whole workflow?
@@TommyCallaway I actually did that , and my quality on 1080 didn't improve but when I switched the gear button on the 1440 on youtube it looked like 1080 on my PC. But I want my 1080 on CZcams to look as good as my PC 1080
Because your 1080 on CZcams looks like mine 1080 on PC
@@TommyCallaway and you could just make a video because that's a great content 😄
@@TommyCallaway and you don't make 60fps maybe that's the reason or something else I don't know...
Hemm for the weebill s actually you didnt even buy the full equipment include (extra tripod+fast tripod clip)
I snagged a moza air 2 with ff unit for $449. Not too shabby.
Better build quality is all metal and very little plastic. However, more metal means more heavier to carry around. I have the Weebill - S and I like it. The issue with the gimbal locks is that if you constantly lock & unlock them they will eventually degrade. However, once my Weebill is turned "ON" and well balance I do not put the gimbal in lock. I keep it on all the time when I put it down because the battery life is 14 hours. So why turn if "OFF" and lock the gimbal then unlock then turn "ON" the gimbal. It's wear and tear on the locks.
You forgot to mention that Ronin's app not going to work if you are to block location.
I returned it without ever using it.
In terms of over tighting on the weebiel..... A friend kept over tightening and breaking mounts on his budget Chinese lights and magic arms.... He does work with Arri cameras and reds all the time! with some of my budget light stands and magic arms I had to remind him that these are NOT industrial grade mounts.... These are domestic grade mounts.... Same for those gimblas.... None of those are industrial grade! But theres always operators that like to over tighten metal threads on plastic bodies.... That's fine if your using industrial arri camera gear and light stands.... But for domestic gimbals that's probably Not a good idea. I'm still using a zhyun crane v1 😄 but I am looking around for another gimbal that can handle my metal heavy vintage lenses😁
I still have a Weebill Lab
Any tips? I have a Nikon d3400
If I were you I'd keep it. Honestly the current differences between gimbals aren't enough to justify UPGRADING. I'm waiting for a major new invention on gimbals that would be worth the upgrade
Great comparison! What are your thoughts on FeiyuTech G6 Max?
Haven’t seen or played with it... but If you own a gimbal, you don’t need to buy another one. They’re all amazing. :)
@@TommyCallaway Thanks, still looking for a gimbal right now.
Ehy Tommy....Moza Aircross 2 vs Ronin SC for a fuji x-t3
What do you think?
Never used the Ronin SC but I really, really like the Aircross 2. It's my daily driver of the 4 in this video.
@@TommyCallaway yes...just asking what you think about it based on what you seen on paper. Actually I think the Ronin SC is cheaper than the Aircross2
@@PierpaoloPerriFotografo The app requirement alone for the Ronin SC makes me not want to use it.
I bought my Ronin S because I was listening to all the CZcamsrs and I hated it. It's big and clunky and heavy. Then balancing it takes longer than other gimbals. Would not recommend it in 2021.
Weebill s perfect 👌
What about the moza air 3
I am confused between moza air cross 2 and zhyuin crane 2 which one should I buy
I prefer the AirCross 2
@@TommyCallaway can use for canon 1300d..??
@@omkarpatil5325 Yes - I don't use the camera feature controls (start stop record, etc) on any of my gimbals so I can't comment there, but the gimbal will definitely work to stabilize your camera, which is the only thing I use a gimbal for.
