Mystique (born Raven Darkholme) was a mutant with the ability to shapeshift into anyone.
Portrayed by: Rebecca Romijn - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Rebecca's Mystique was the best. Mysterious, deadly, sexy, not showing many emotions. Just ready to eliminate her enemies.
True.
Facts
You sus and true at the same time
For sure, and the makeup very well done, just look at the skin texture. Lawrence's makeup was too artificial, nothing real.
I know right
This version of Mystique was perfection made flesh.
Yes
Prolly the best thing to come out of this franchise. The shifting scales when she transforms + the decision to make her nude was a stroke of genius
@@Sevalithi yeah. I think her concept was taken from how reptiles change colors/adapts and doppleganger which the latter shows how both mystiqual (no pun intended) and insidiously scary she supposed to be is.
Magneto: I said the real Mystique
Magneto: Perfection
FACTS!!!!!
This version of Mystique just seemed lethal to me; part ninja, part spider - the way she uses her limbs is nuts. I think her being relatively quiet through almost all three movies made her more mysterious and seem deadlier. The makeup was also a lot better in these films. With the newer movies her color is so much lighter, like legit Smurf. That’s not even a dig - the last movie had her almost the exact color of the newer movie Smurfs.
Yea her skintone definitely changed a lot in the new films. Her original darker blue so much nicer, definitely fit the character vibe of being mysterious and off putting almost
Well 'ambidexterity' is one of her superpowers.
She can use her legs like hands.
Oh not to mention superhuman flexibility and dexterity, so its almost impossible to restrain her and she can slide away from any attacks.
What they did to her on Dark Phoenix was unforgivable
They took everything that made the OG design so iconic and threw it out the window
the younger actors that came in the later x movies were horrible
@Sad B!tch in the comics she was a lighter blue
Rebecca Romijn as Mystique is in my opinion one of the most underrated superhero movie castings of all time, I thought she was amazing as Mystique and it really saddens me that she doesn’t really get brought up anymore when people talk about superhero movies
I agree I think whoever casted her had a clear vision and was brilliant. Her background as a model really added a lot to Mystique with how she carried herself even in scenes where she is not the focus.
She really grabbed that role. Great job.
I don’t think it’s underrated though, everyone adores her in that role. Despite being sub par in terms of story, the first two X-Men films nailed the casting. First Class onwards - just no!
The way she acts, the way she fights, and her abilities in general make her so fantastic and of course dangerous. Plus I can’t get over the fact of her having the makeup done for her entire body. She was her own character instead of being a team member. That is why her portrayal was better.
Yup, everything Rebecca did was 10x better than Jennifer. Jennifer is a subpar actress, basic and average body with 0 capabilities. It really downgraded Mystique. I felt Rebecca never got the amount of respect she deserved just like I felt Famke never got the amount of respect she deserved as Phoenix. 😊
@@LeeoGoneWild felt like the idea of frank castle. You had a cold blooded and hot blooded mystique. She did better cold blooded since she had a cold hatred for humans but she didn’t act up.
That is why I liked her response to nightcrawler.
“Why not be like everyone else.”
“Because we shouldn’t have to.”
It must have taken six hours. Meanwhile Jennifer Lawrence gets it all digital.
Mystique really is really an example of a mutant who mastered his/her skill. Imagine being able to copy a person with just a glance down to smallest detail like what she did in the retina scan scene. The mental capacity it would take to memorize and command over her cells in her body is astounding. I also, think, by copying a person, she's able to know that persons capability and limits. Maybe that's the reason why she can easily go toe to toe against Wolverine.
Her copying powers are done by instinct. Just like humans walking up stairs would take robots millions of programming code.
@@bruceli9094 walking isn't instinct, it's learned. If you don't think when walking it's because you learned it so well. As much as I know human doesn't have instincts, just some reflexes. Intelligence replaced instincts in human
She cannot copy a person's scent though, thats why Logan was able to know it was her posing as Storm.
If Mystique is enhanced by Apocalypse, it will give her the ability to copy a person down to their DNA structure, that means she will be undetectable as fk, its like she will have the ability to be an exact clone of a person.
@@princessneekee853 the only thing that would stop her is knowing their memories but she would be a unstoppable force to be reckoned with lmao
@Sad B!tch
True.
But itll be useful against mutants with super senses like Wolverine.
And we know animals too can differentiate each person's scent, Mystique's ability to negate her scent will be useful not to get detected by animals.
I do love how they don’t erase the fact that her powers are literally DANGEROUS ASF. Like sure she can’t fight apocalypse or thanos but to society she literally has one of the most dangerous power there is
I always think about the potential her powers would have in a parallel universe where she simply wanted to rule the world.Having the power to transform into diverse politicians, start wars on a global scale...
It would be cool if she competed against clayface to see who can trick the most people lol.
You gotta stop saying literally for no reason.
@@SuperVictor400its funny you say this bc in Days of future past they say if she wanted to she could cause nuclear war if she really wanted to
The old version of Mystique and Jean was so much better than the newer version. The makeup, the abilities of mutant power, everything is better and more real.
The acting also.
the truth is sophie and jennifer are great actresses, but it's the direction the directors took the characters. Let's make the bad guy the good guy and let's make one of the nicest characters seem contrite. The younger jean didn't seem likeable and in days of future past they should have let mystique become "mystique' and not be this Raven hero whatever thing she was.
@@laurenceedward5910 The truth is: Sophie and Jennifer are mediocre at best; there's nothing 'great' about their performances. There are too many sub-standard actors in modern films, where identity is more important than ability.
times are changing. adapt or die. i rarely watch movies anymore since everything has an agenda or something. i do feel like mediocre is strong but type casting might be more efficient. however i will concede, actors in different roles now aren't the same as they were back in my day. (not that old, im only 31)
different movies different characters
now it feels like its different movie same actor
@@kasegiyabu5030rebecca and famke are just better mystique and jeans. Sophie and Jennifer are good actresses, Jennifee especially when given the right material and direction but their performances are just alright, maybe even good but not exceptional.
The sliding middle finger was my favorite scene out of all of these movies
Yes! That part is so epic!
It was the best
The way he walks at 2:50. Something under-appreciated is how committed all of the actors are when playing Mystique as their character. Hugh Jackman's self-fight? So good.
Mr.Unknown
I never thought of that, it is so true! The actor actually walked the way true Mystique would do, in sort of intent, fearless, graceful female way
Bruce Davidson rocks the hell out of the role.
Dude!!! I never thought of that, in my head it was all her performance even when Hugh Jackman cried at 1:20 when impersonating Mystique impersonating Wolverine!! 🤣😂😂
well thats what makes it look fishy, you knew that was mystique by the way he was walking LMAO.
I love how graceful, and powerful her fighting is. I’ve always loved the mini moments of her personality, licking her lips, or winking. The “toodle loo “ wave when she’s Stryker as the doors close. Giving the finger as she slips away lol I’m okay with JLaw, but her character was based off giving the actress more airtime. They never let Mystique be as evil as she was in the first three films.
lol can't have "grace" anymore in modern day heroines. People will get mad and say stuff "she doesn't fight realistically! A woman can also fight like a man"
In-universe, mystique's personality shift went towards a downward spiral after she killed Bolivar Trask, resulting in this version of her, but they changed the timeline and prevented her from doing that and that was the reason J-Law's version is a "good guy".
1. It’s kinda creepy and impressive of how good she is at using her legs for stuff
2. I actually feel kinda bad for her in the end, she became normal and magneto was like “no we good here” and just leaves her
in the end she still betrays him, very well done
@@SuperVictor400 hard to tell in 3, she did tell where the base was but it was just decoy it's left a mystery if she was aware of it or not
Dont forget those feet. If I had to choose how I'd die I'd definitely want this mistique choking me with her feet 😌👍
But the cure wasnt permanent so the possibility of her powers returning are high
@@Demigod2NE3 I mean that's another spiral of things, 1st the x-men will likely be re-introduced so anything that happend in previous x-men movies are irrelevant (they might bring in some of the old actors to reprise but they may not tie in the movies they had them in) so asking the return of mystique with her powers returning is meaningless, 2nd days of future past is a movie that technically continues off at 3 but they hide it to a degree that not many would notice and old Mystique is nowhere to be found in that movie
The fight between Wolverine and Mystique in the first movie is still the best Male v Female fight I've ever seen
@Cthulhu scales
It's really good, but I prefer the one against Lady Deathstrike
@@monsieur9520 fair point
It's good but why the heck it's so slow

Honestly I saw her. Rebecca Romijn as a queen and she was born to play as mystique. Her Role and Flexibility are flawlessly extraordinary
There is no other....she is Mystique...*the Mystique straight from the comics...literal embodiment. She cannot be surpassed. Period. 😍💜
Rebecca Romijn is the mystique
That first scene in the helicopter. The music as she slowly reveals her true self. Such a great introduction to that character.
So graceful, so ruthless, so intelligent.
Prefect casting, great effects, stunning fight choreography.
Now THIS is the mystique i grew up loving. Nobody can do rebecca romijn justice imo.
Edit: that move she does at 1:40 always left me in awe at 6-7 lol, it was so graceful but painful looking.
She hella agile as Fuk to do that
Admit it, we'd all pay money to see Rebecca reprise her role as Mystique in an MCU film.
That and be apart of it as a different character in the MCU who just happens to look like the human version of Raven.
Rebecca's was an upgrade version of her comic counterpart. She was gracefully dangerous, enticingly deadly and seductively lethal all of the same time.
She was definitely the highlight of the 2000 released film.
She's the highlight of the whole trilogy, period. They made a mistake of making her human at the start of the third film.
I’m so happy to see comments like this because throughout the X-Men series being released, I didn’t feel like she was respected enough and I was VERY upset when they hired “younger actresses” to play Mystique and Phoenix. Echoing that, I felt Famke was extremely underrated. Her take on Phoenix was perfection.
@@LeeoGoneWild hear hear! Though i like JLaw, her portrayal of Mystique was not even close to that of Rebecca's to say the least. The worst thing they made to Mystique was she became a superhero, and the inspiration for all mutants in the coming generation.. can you imagine Mystique was the field commander of X-Men, while she was the personal aspiration of Storm's and Jean's. How preposterous! I love her the way she was and is... They never should have rewritten her story!!!
@@LeeoGoneWildIt was the direction of storytelling ffs: *their characters were younger in those movies, the changes were not personal against the actors.* 🤦♂️
I have no idea how you were able to sound so detached from reality in your comment but I'm scared...
@@alexolivo4155 it actually highlighted what a bad actress Jennifer is, she has no range at all, she also pretended to be “allergic,” so she didn’t have to sit in hours of makeup. The younger generation is so so so lazy… lacks talent, and beyond ungrateful. We will never get the talent we had with the older generation, ever… again
The Best version of Mystique everrrr!! better than Jennifer Lawrence version.
Too bad she had to endure hours of getting that makeup on and off during filming, which was certainly not a pleasant experience.
I am a hug fan of Jennifer Lawrence but yes her version was not even a villain
@@NakedSnake1836 she was a trooper about it too and knew it was part of the job. Not a crybaby like Jennifer Lawrence.
@@junemoon1664 I thought Jennifer was allergic to the makeup.
@@NakedSnake1836 so why would she even go for the role? Stupid. I never heard she was allergic just disliked how long it took.
Anyway I still don’t understand why you had to make the makeup process such a negative thing? Rebecca Romijn never complained about it. She always talked about how much she loved it and Mystique. She was a dedicated to the process. Don’t try an make it seem like a bad thing for Rebecca to make Jennifer look good. JLaw was just terrible as Mystique down to the personality and fighting.
It’s so satisfying to hear her transform, the sound it makes
For me Rebecca played Mystique better because she acted with a natural allure and an air of superiority.
You couldn't really tell what she's feeling until she talked. Which was always terse.
Jennifer's version always had something to say, and was usually sarcastic. Which ended up annoying me.
"Mutant and proud" **cringe**
I agree with your opinion as get it what they're referencing with "Mutant and Proud" I mean I get what the writers were going for but for me, it's not just words but also your actions that define what those words mean.
Not to be rude or disrespectful towards Jennifer Lawrence in her portrayal as "Mystique" but I always prefered Rebecca Romijn as "Mystique" over her as I feel that Rebecca R. had more in touch with Mystique than Jennifer did however I will give the younger actress good credit for her effort in portraying the character. In my opinion, Rebecca portrayed "Mystique" as being way more deadly, sexier, coming across as a cold-hearted person to everyone except Magneto who made her feel as if she had a place in the world as a person than some kind of piece of s*** because of her mutant nature.
To me Rebecca's Mystique was the best, with Jennifer's nearly as good as her.
Jennifer got the earlier years down, like Tom Holland as Spider-Man
But Rebecca has much more older & experienced tone, like Toby Maguire in Spider-Man 2&3
It's not the BEST compairison, but It's what comes to mind for me
Is a great exemple of how you dont need transpose everything from the comics to the screen and make it even better, it doesn't have the characteristic clothes but it's still impeccable and works on screen
the thing about her that stands out is that she was able to give a sense of "mystique" to the character
The best live action Mystique. Why won't they bring her back
I hope Rebecca will appear in multiverse of madness

This is the Mystique I grew up with. Her mysterious side and getting only occasional airtime (which always entertained) is what kept me intrigued about her.
This version of mystique was perfect her movements and mannerisms there was nothing to add or change. Jennifer Laurence had big shoes to fill.
Many said that. Her graceful movements like a gymnast and her composed mannerisms were stellar. Jennifer was very bland.
I didn’t like Jennifer as Mystique. She was only good in Days of Future Past.
let's be honest: Rebecca Romijn is the one and only Mystique we need.
I can’t state enough and emphatically, that Rebecca literally Bodied this role! 10s across the MF board, I literally couldn’t wait for her scenes! I was so moved by her performance that I drew fan art of it. She and whoever decided on this iteration of mystique deserved awards for this!
The best Mystique forever. (J. Lawrence) as a Mystique is nothing compared to Rebecca. Rebecca give justice to the character with flying colors. She's so elegant as a Mystique, ruthless and heartless and she don't give a damned to her enemy's, she's ready to eliminate them by all means, no mercy or whatsoever, and she's so sexy as well.... 💜💛💪💪💪
Ikr the first time I saw X2 in theatres and Logan kicked her out of his tent I called him gay
Lawrence's Mystique was just learning , most of the time she was protected and in a way controlled by Charles. She was confused . So she was limited . And those movies were a bit watered down ( MCU style) . So there is no chance
Y’all don’t always have to compare different versions of a character. They can both exist without constantly being compared.
She's the reason why i love Xmen... so perfect... super slick and badass Mystique...JLaw could never...
Honestly jlaw played the younger version of mystique so well! The way she was timid and scared and naive. They both did fantastic job on covering both areas of mystique's life
Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique should had her own solo spin-off movie in the X-Men Universe
The amount of stuff she did throughout the trilogy to get the work done is insane.
Can We Agree, Rebbeca is a way better Mystique than JeLaw?
I think JLaw would agree also on that
@@philip1718 Rebecca really embodied Mystique rather than Jlaw

I love the little detail that they also preserved in JLaw’s version how she fights mainly with her legs
Her Moves, facial expression, body posture, the way she talk she is really mystique.
When she was still scary and badass.
True
I like this version of her her transformation 😍
Just put 1 more. Her, her, her
My only issue with Mystique is how they drop the slow shiftshapping. In the first one, it was so interesting to see the scales changing.... x-men 2 and 3 it was faster, loosing all of that. it becomes just more fake. Now Rebecca Mystique was better than Jennifer. Both Mystiques are different, yes, but it seems that Jennifer didnt even try to create a character... It was just Jennifer in a blue suit and a red wing! While Rebecca did disappear and sell us that she was Mystique.
She was the best mystique. Literally fascinating and she didn’t play around.
Her musical theme perfectly described her. Seductive Lethality
The best live action Mystique so far! They say that a model can't act but they are wrong.
fun fact for all the lover of this mystique. Mystique is now considered as an omega mutants and is able to recreate mutant’s power and abilities. She’s officially one of the most powerful characters in the comics with all her shapeshifting abilities : any texture (making airplane wings to fly), healing, memorization and deadly with any weapons and can take any animal form as well- she’s deadly if they put her in the MCU 🥹❤️🔥
Her move are so graceful and sensual. The camera angle and cinematography is gold.
The absolute best version of Mystique. I’ll never forgive Marvel for not giving Rebecca more movies as Mystique, instead they gave it to Jennifer, that destroyed the character.
Trust me and again, trust me, many side with you. Millions. This was best version of mystique. Many reviews over the years (because I'm a big fan and seen every film) have said that Rebecca stole the scene whichever scene she was in. She was like the perfect Mystique. Sexy, deadly, mysterious. They destroyed with with giving it to Narcissistic Jennifer. Jennifer plays "Jennifer" in all her movies.
Not destroyed,.but just not mysterious or cool enough
@@MusicismoreImportant not mysterious and not cool. Both of those literally mean DESTROYED
She’s an icon she’s a legend and she is the moment now come on now 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This Will forever be my fave version of mystique. We barely knew anything about her during the movies but it didn't matter hahaha
Wishing she would appear in multiverse of madness
Nightcrawler: Then why not stay in disguise all the time? You know, look like everyone else.
Mystique (in her normal voice): It's because we shouldn't have too.
Rebecca's Mystique is classic as much as Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. Her performance and make up were so ahead of its time that we'll never get to see something like that again. Her fighting style was also something so unique that raised all action scenes to another level.
Mad respect for Ms. Romjin's remarkable physical and mental prowess to endure the almost 10 hour makeup sessions and displaying her incredible acting talents while semi-naked in what I guess must've been really cold movie sets.
Her theme in X1 is iconic
The way she moves even while she's fighting is so graceful and elegant. That version was everything.
Many said the same. No wonder she was a prolifiic model in her prime. She moves so graceful. Hard to really explain. Like her movements and like everything from her posture to her walk is so smooth
Exactly !!! So flexible, elegant, her expressions and body movements. Like a snake a perfect humanoid mutant.
@@toshilongchar9567 perfectly said and written
The moment they took her powers from her that's the moment these movies stopped making sense to me :( She was flawless as Mystique.
One of the best Marvel characters out there! I wish someone like Sarah Paulson or Kerri Washington could play her in MCU, or maybe Zawe Ashton who is cast as a villain in Captain Marvel 2 is her? I would love that

I imagine Charlize Theron as MCU's version of Mystique
Great idea!

She was definitely the best mystique ever! She is probably the reason why she mystique is popular today because she brought her to life now you switched her with someone else it wasn't a good decision to change. Not too say the current actor isn't any good because she is good just a different feel. Mother mutant vs teenager mutant.
People who say Jennifer is a full/real actress seem to miss the facial and Body acting that Rebecca does. Way too many people brush off models turned actors.
Mystique stole every scene she was on, credit to Rebecca. She became a favorite and what did they do, replace her with an actress that wasnt a great fit.
Rebecca played mystic like a BOSS! PERFECTION MYSTIC!
The real Mystique as a kid watching these movies I always loved everything about her so graceful yet deadly
Her fighting skills are top notch 👌
I could never get enough of her in her blue form! 😍
We need Rebecca back to play Mystique NOW!!!!
I wish that with this version or even Jennifer's that they hinted Nightcrawler was her son
This mystique was so badass and the actress did an incredible job. Showed mystique as the capable, dangerous, and sly mutant she is
Her, Wolverine, Prof X and Magneto were the main stars of the series. She was so good Jen L couldn’t even come close.
@NinjakX exactly! Jennifer Lawrence is a great actor, but her version of Mystique could never compare to Rebecca's.
The scene where she loses her powers is the saddest scene in the franchise for me. She literally saves Magneto, she's been by his side the entire time, and he just abandons her like she's nothing. Truly tragic.
