Very generous of him to share his secrets with everyone. But he is very well aware that very few would be able to be this proficient
When it comes to the guitar, this man has no limitations.
Like Guthrie Govan said: if you steal from one person, it's plagiarism; if you steal from multiple people, it's doing research.
Research HAHAHHAHA
Good to see GG mentioned on a Tommy Emmanuel discussion :)
Good to see GG mentioned on a Tommy Emmanuel discussion :)
Tony Bennett also quoted that.
So basically what GG said wasn't original though
Saw Tommy in concert last night, and it was the best show I've ever seen. You've got to see him live!!
Totally irrelevant comment
THE LORD OF GUITAR PLAYING!
Awesome!!!
After all Emmanuel does mean "God with us" :) Just needs to be a lower case g since (believe it or not) he's a mortal
Lord of the strings... haha get it?
Wow, now someone who is a great guitarist that has guts to say he steal from Chet, well i put it as "Learned from Chet". And i know it takes a lot of determination & hardwork to play like chet, well chet is chet & tommy is tommy, both great guitarist that ever lived. Now tommy is sharing us what he has learned from chet. Respect to both of this guys. Special mention is mark knofler. Its really fun watching mark videos also. These 3's are legends. "RESPECT"
5:59 Waltzing matil...wah wah bla bla... The way he mumbled it out killed me haha lol.
Got it! Thank you Tommy! I've always wanted to get one of these crazy harp like 'floating ' licks, and this is a real gem. You've become my number one favorite guitarist. Thank you so much!
Me too
The great guitar master. God bless your teaching, Tommy Emmanuel.
What possible reason could 65 people have had to dislike this video? Solid gold. Can’t wait to re-watch it with a guitar in my hands.
Cuz there’s no playback speed under .25
Haha as I was playing a Chet Atkins lick as an exercise, Tommy Emmanuel says he takes influence from Chet Aktins. He's one of my favorite guitar players aswell.
I love the CGP at the 12th fret. Certified indeed.
You are the all time great guitar maestro. You go one step further and actually share your legacy.
Pure class as usual.
Good luck! Great inspiration. Just need to practice, practice and practice. A true living legend.
It is great watching maestro at work, looks so easy 😉, thank you Mr Emmanuel
Tommy is a great teacher, and thank you for taking the time to teach us all...
1:30 instructions unclear, played wonderwall
Tommys lessons always great.
Tommy genio!! Que gran estilo de tocar la guitarra acústica!! Gracias por inspirar!
You are the finest folks in the world for bringing this lesson to us.
Sounds like a Chet Atkins, Cascade lick? Thanks so very much
Wow tommy you rock give goosebumps 👏you make me to pick up my 🎸thanks lovely work
The best in the world!
Too good mate. Truly admire you
Planet sized talent, but he's retained his humility. One of the all time greats, no question
I love it! Thank you!
Really cool, already been doin the first one via slash , some Guns N’ Roses song, the other 2 I’ll definitely have fun trying
Thank ya
God I love the sound of that guitar,
Chat would of been proud of you T.
Amazing...thanks Tommy!
Love your videos !
muy ,muy ,muy bueno ...gracias maestro, now to work it...buf ¡¡
What a legend!
Great! Thanks for support!
Thank-you Tommy from guitar players everywhere, for 'passing on' these foundational licks made famous by your mentor, Chet Atkins, and the great Jerry Reed. I was struck during the first part of your first lick, where you stressed anchoring the root note; in this case, the index finger fretting middle C. It was like a light bulb going on suddenly in my head!
After thinking about it, it made so much sense to me to anchor the root note (or barre) and then play whichever lick you want with the middle, ring and pinky fingers and occassionally the thumb. It eliminates jumping back and forth to fret the anchor note and whatever intevals the player adds to make a lick harmonious or dissonant and enjoyable to play and listen to.
I'd also say that anchoring technique might be somewhat challenging for smaller players, mostly smaller women and kids whose fingers may never be as long as yours or mine. Their playing could improve in a lot of ways bylaying smaller-bodied guitars like Palors and OOOs that have shorter scale lengths and usually narrower nut widths.
when Tommy's guitar is still new
The master of master guitar
Love this. I got the first one. The next two won't be a problem either.
Beautiful. All of it.
Woawwww Tommy thank you very Much
Got to see Tommy in State College PA a few years back. Was about 20' away !! What a show !!! The opening act could not make it so he did a double show for us !!! WOW !!!!!!
My friends asked me if I picked up any tricks from him being that close??? I told them "No way he was going too fast "!!! What a wonderful man a so so humble !
Do you have anything relevant to say about this guitar lesson?
@@FIshfood500Yes it is great - from the master himself!
Thank you Tommy.
Amazing tutorial👍
God bless you master
You're like the weirdest thing man. You are a realist with such a kind way about it.
Really great sir 👍😇
that "petty theft" line had me cracking up. That's true, and so is everything you said after
On lick 2: I believe chet stole that lick from jerry reed as well. I thought you were going to say you stole it from him.
Hi Tommy, I'm your great fan. I like all your videos but this one especially, because many licks I've already know but I would like to see all yours famous licks.
HE - GENIUS !!!!!!!!!!
It's not stealing... it's allowing a tradtional style to live and not die ❤
Awesome
living legend
I like it going to practice that!!!!! 10000 times outta do it!!
I'm a simple amateur guitarist. I see Tommy Emmanuel, I click.
thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
Браво маэстро!!!!!!!!🙏🎶👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯
Thanks
I am always amazed at the generosity of Chet and of Tommy. True greats! Sadly, while I was on my way, (so to speak) I’ve developed a problem in my left wrist. I’ve gone to three docs and all they did was give me injections . They worked for 5 months. And now, I’m right back in pain and I can’t get any more injections . . Don’t know what to do . Anyone know a GREAT hand doctor?
Wow what a talented guitarist. I would like to jam with him. Play stuff like pipeline. Ventures stuff.
🐐
😄 “Good luck”… yep, I really need it.
Nice Brother....
I love you sir
haha that's awesome. what a gifted artist.
o
Samson Urbano practice
That 2nd lick is spicy
Super
Hit the like within 20 seconds.
My bag of licks is so empty..
I have about as much chance of learning this as flying a helicopter 😜
Hi. Great lesson. Is there any licks to play those licks in another chord than C and G?
Cause you’ll need it. Otherwise it’s just a lot of dedication . Thanks.
I use the gear icon in the window to run at half speed. Helps.
the last one was amazing! only I did not play right.....
GRAZIE.
Its amazing dear!
Goods
Am turning my guitar into a coffee table...
I have some 3 note licks that I am pretty fond of... you can borrow those anytime 😂
I want to steal the amazing personality from Tommy.
it is not steeling, it is proud giving ;)
" good luck " - thank you, Master Tommy , be blessed !
In the hip hop scene you steal something and instant beef, but amongst musicians it’s encouraged I love it
What? The hip hop scene is built from sampling!
I was about to say this.
My grandpa..... Can't wait to see you
I really don´t know your right hand techine !!! Is there any video about it ?
ooo look at this one ;)
He make it look so easy😭
If I can get 1% as good as him, I will be happy.
You got
256beans Don't shortchange yerself - strive for 6.447%

Which guage string does he use ?
I need tabs for 2 & 3! :(
😮😮🎸👍👏👏👏👏
Whats the name of that last song Tommy played and sing a bit with It?
I often wonder when it is time to give up and realize that there are limits to individual abilities. You have surely shown you still have not yet reach yours but how do others know when "that's just not gonna happen". You make it look easy and possible. Have you had students that you know will never really get there?
A very good question. It is always good to keep trying, however, it is my opinion that there is a genetic component to finger/thumb independence. Some people are just pre disposed to this skill; others, not as much. As much as I've tried, I just cannot get it.
luthier47 You could say that but I'd like to think that with enough practice these licks are possible. Now that may be weeks or months of sitting with a guitar practicing at half tempo but compared to the practice that guys like Tommy have to do in order to get to the level that they are I would say it's a fair trade.
Simon, I absolutely agree with your statement but in my situation, the variables are different. You may be a bit younger with time on your side. I'm closing in on a different clock. I can't take too much of that time to keep practicing (not that I wouldn't want to) as I would lose out out on the other intangibles life offers me now. It is very unfortunate view but it is a view we will all get to see at some point. On the other hand, while you can...don't let the grass grow under your feet as they say. I hope you knock it out of the park 🍻
luthier47 as Tommy once said, "how good you are is up to you." Keep practicing! Don't give up, let your playing drown out the negativity! I'm so sorry that sounds corny as hell but hey, a little encouragement never hurt anyone
It might be that, but how much do you try. You have to realize, when these people first started guitar they might've (and almost always) practiced for 6 hours a day or longer. By his age he proly has over 100-400k hours into the guitar.
Think about it, I have since I was a kind no less than 30-50 thousand hours in video games.... I guess that because i know I have 10k in bethesda games alone lol It's not hard to imagine that a 60 year old or however old he is that started playing as a child (most likely and in general IDK about this guy particularly) how many hours he has in the guitar.
Now ask urself, do you REALLY put in the time?
Thank you for the lesson. I do have a question about something on your guitar neck inlay. What is the C.G.P. on fret 12?
Certified Guitar Player.
@@charlesjohnson-cj1or I've never heard of that. I will have to look into it. Thank you
@@rebuiltbyusn it’s a thing Chet Atkins came up with and called himself and so he passed it down to like 5-6 other players and then Tommy towards the end of his life. Tommy uses it on his guitar and his merch, like a doctor does with their degree haha. Tommy Emmanuel, CGP
@@spinblackcircles I think you responded to this a long time ago. So I do know what CGP is. Thank you again for the explanation.
W.o.w
I am starting to learn on to finger pick. Should I use a thumb pick like Tommy?
It doesn’t hurt to get comfortable using a thumb pick, so that way it’s not too foreign to you if you’re playing something that needs clear bass notes.
Yes...and Tommy also uses the thumb pick like a flat pick as did Chet ..
can't hear the2nd. lick nor see what you're playing anyone able to name frets and open strings please?
See him live if you get tbe chance.
Господа, Это что-то!!!
is the second lick played with two or three fingers?
“Here’s a lot of things I can do on guitar that you’ll never be able to. Good luck”
I’ve been trying to get the tuning for questionsIf somebody has the tuning out there please tell me I appreciate it and God bless
Standard
I have the same thumbpick and I sound nothing like that.
You forgot to charge it--with talent!
@@terrymiller111 ...and Maton guitar
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
same problem
Nunyo Bidness it needs some practice and takes a time to get used to it
