Just 2 of the 4 open cast mines in this area, with more mines dotted around the island, Because of its volcanic history, the island is rich is Bentonite which is a water purifier, pond liner and used in lots of everyday items such as cosmetics and toothpaste.
Massive scars on the landscape and huge terraced hills created with tailings.
