    Superb video, I have exactly the same bike as you Ricky. It is a roadster, and not to be condescending, it is a roadster, not a sports bike all geared for top end speed for the track. Yet you prove me wrong. Says a lot about the new BMW boxer that it can live with, or even excel, the sport bikes on a track day. One thing that is not much said about the boxer is its braking with the throttle off. Bit concerting at first, but one can leave a bend right to the last second, and even use the engine breaking though a bend. You give this bike due credit.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Malcolm, the bike reveals more and more of it's true capabilities while still remaining a great real world road bike. I know there is more to come on the track too, the limit will be my riding ability for quite a while yet!
      Yes the engine braking is pretty strong, but also when you are hard on the brakes, the fact that they are linked means there is rarely any drama or need for the rear brake. For the track I used Dynamic suspension mode and I put the Preload on Max instead of Auto and it handled everything I threw at it. The bike certainly punches above its considerable weight 😆

    Nice vid, thank you, the R dash in sport mode is amazing isn't it?... decent lean angles for the big boxer, and some good dicing with 1000 cc bikes,....😁 the 1250 and its pilot were caring riders and respecting slower traffic before overtaking,... great fun you must have had! thank you for sharing! Thank you for your message Regis! Sorry I missed it and didn't respond sooner. I had a great time at Donington on the big boxer! It may not be the best choice for a track day but the bike handles it well very well! And the dash is very impressive.. I did get up to 47° to the left in a different session 😊 I just wish I could download the telemetry from the bike/app so I can add it to the video but sadly it's not really possible.

    2min is a good time.. there was some traffic but you seem to coast too much instead of being either on throttle or on brakes.. your traction light is going nuts so reduce that a bit.. you can actually brake later and trail brake into the hard braking area’s..

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  Před 2 lety

      I'm slowly getting better but as you say I do spend too much time coasting. Trail braking is the next big thing... at the moment I can't make myself brake any later even though I know I'm braking too early. It will take a while to make myself believe I can brake later and still make the corner. Thanks for your feedback!

      @RikkyTang  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Rich! Yes it was great to meet you too! I hope that you had a great evening at the track.
      I use a program called Telemetry Overlay, it's good for lap times, GPS positioning and the map overlay. Making it create the graphs at the top of the screen was another matter! I had to split the laps up manually and export the graphs as transparent movie files so I could import them in me video editor (Davinci Resolve). It took ages, but I'm pleased with the results! Maybe Race Chrono could do that bit easier - I'll have to take a look 😊

    What cam telemetry thing do you use?

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  Před rokem

      Hi, sorry for the late reply. I use software called Telemetry Overlay, its reads the data that is embedded in the GoPro video and it comes with a choice of different displays for the data. The one thing it's missing for me is the option to compare lap times (i.e. live feedback on whether the current lap is faster or slower than the previous lap) during a session as it's not really a dedicated app for racing/track days but otherwise I really like it goprotelemetryextractor.com/telemetry-overlay-gps-video-sensors

    @torquetours5725 Před rokem

    Is there any reason why you didn't use Dynamic Pro?

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  Před rokem

      Yes indeed there is... Dynamic Pro doesn't offer any more power or better DTC/ABS modes than Dynamic. Dynamic Pro only offers more mix & match options i.e. you can combine the Dynamic throttle map with Rain traction control if you wanted to. On other models such the S1000R, Dynamic Pro does actually do something extra, for example it disables the integrated wheelie control on the 2nd gen model i used to own.

    Once you're into the one fifty somethings then that's a perfectly respectable time for inters, and it looks like you know what you're aiming for with your lines. Your "cold tyre scare"... was that by any chance the rear spinning up or stepping out when you got on the gas whilst still leaning over? In my humble opinion, you are getting on the throttle too early and too hard mid-corner. Is that orange triangle on the right of the dash the traction control? You're on your way to a highside. The solution is what you say in your comments above. Carry a bit more speed into the corner, ideally so that you roll up to the apex without needing to get back on the gas. Then apply throttle progressively only as you start to pick the bike up. But don't go crazy and carry so much speed into the corner that you loose the front end or (more likely in my experience) bottle it - build it up, little by little. So there you go, some free advice from some random guy on the internet who could know nothing about nothing 🤣.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  Před 2 lety

      Thank you internet stranger for your contribution! The cold tyre slide was on my out-lap and was down to getting on the gas with too much lean on cold rubber. The traction control saved that one it was nothing to do with me! I usually take a couple of laps to warm up my tyres but this time I was the second bike out on the track and my stupid brain told me to go a bit faster so I didn't hold up the faster bikes behind me. Lesson learned... until the next time!
      Yes the orange light on the right is TC and the blue DTC display on the left shows how much TC the ECU is applying... you can see that it's busy for quite a lot of the lap lol. Yes as you say, more speed into the corner will be the next thing to work on, along with body positioning and everything else!
