Ren has constantly got to me emotionally. For this one I think I was more enamored by the lights, the guitar work and everything else to fully hear the lyrics.
Ren usually gets me in my feels for sure!
@mcflyjp The last- I've been lost bit he does, you can see it connect with him, it's written all over his face/body language, and even the way he changes certain words to spoken, rather than sung. And for me, anyway, it translated into that channeling thing that he does, where the emotion just pours out of him. I, in turn, could feel that

It does not get much more poignant than Ren looking out at Calgary while singing "I've been lost".
His friend, Josh, did a great job filming this video too. Yeap, Ren & his guitar….that’s all we need. I think he mentioned that his next album in 2024 will be Song & Guitar! I’m so ready.

It’s just Ren.. we are surprisingly unsurprised at how good he is… somehow he is still not getting the accolades he deserves… I feel that same way how he hasn’t given us anything to not like… he has tuned into a certain frequency where mainly the ones that need his music get him the most…. His music actually did come into my life at the right time. It's pretty incredible.
I am obsessed with this mash up as I think it’s so amazing how Ren truly makes this his own. He takes the identifiable sections of FRED Again’s tracks and blends them to tell the story he wants to tell.
I love how the room reflects the ‘Red pill/blue pill’ colours, which tells us all we need to know. Ren knows he has decisions to make, because he is on a spiritual journey just like Neo and he wants to help free our minds and create harmony, whilst helping himself to get fully to a place of wellness.
I love the subtlety of the Sick Boi lamp flashing out. On the one hand, to send a distress signal, down to the world that it needs help and people to fight for it, both environmentally and socially. On the other hand, as a beacon signalling hope out above the skyline, calling for us to unite and to make each other feel less lonely.
Yet, Ren himself is telling us he swings like a pendulum back and forth from wanting on one side of the equation to reach out and connect in order to make people happy, provide lasting shared memories for everyone, and to offer us all his talents and beautiful music. To the other side of the equation, which is his need to focus on getting himself to a place where he can be left alone to create, develop his passions and just ‘be’ without being lost in all the endless necessary intervention from dealing with his health issues. Also, whilst living the continuous reality of having to project outwardly from his naturally somewhat introvert personality the larger than life Ren we all hold in such high esteem.
Therefore, I love the whole Yin Yang to this track and the internal need for creative stillness verses the out right pleading for change that is reflected in all of us.
I also love how Ren plays the guitar so imaginatively and perceptively, with nods to The Police, Chalk Outlines/Hold On and Violet’s tale in the guitar parts (after all what do red and blue make when mixed together?!). Ren’s sending out that important ‘S.O.S. to the world’, and fortunately more people are listening now!
Yet he’s also showing us his contradictions knowing after all, that we all have them too.
Wow. Like I said, my Ren radar is lacking after being away for too long. I'd say a lot of what you said is probably true. The red pill blue pill part I'm on the fence about. That's quite specific. I take it more as a contrast where red and blue cancel each other out on the color spectrum; the pendulum to mentioned. The flickering of the light I felt was to signify the end of the song; but also the struggle within himself.
@@mcflyjp We all see things differently and you might be right. I say red pill, blue pill because to me Ren is analysing whether we want, as a society, to live inside the accepted illusions of predestination and pre-conceived or pre-determined outcomes created by today’s seemingly inevitable reality i.e. that we are all going to “hell in a hand cart”. The projection of possible self destruction leading to ‘S’. Or whether to reject this “jungle” in favour of self determinism, self actualisation and the perception that life can be created to rise above and view existence from outside or beyond the trappings and constructs; and that a well society can create a hopeful tomorrow willing it into an ever changing, infinite realm of possibility (as buzz lightyear would say) far beyond the physical trappings (money, looks, desire, instant gratification, battling violence); which breaks the matrix and allows us to always live in hope. In other words “Battling” in the right way, with courage and love.

I love Fredagain and there are some of my favourite tracks in there……Ren payed perfect homage to Fred at the same time as telling his own story.

On another note (bad pun intended), when you were talking about his ability to use his thumb across the whole fretboard, I’m sitting here like…”yeah, despite my fairly long fingers and hyper mobile joints, I’m lucky to get enough of my thumb to wrap around to do the cheater chord for G. Granted, I’m no guitarist. I know like 3 chords. Slightly more on mandolin, but my thumb just does not cooperate like that.😂

It's quite a surreal experience to be in the process of healing. I say not even 3 months ago this probably would have hit me a little bit better as I myself was lost. But through therapy and finding myself slowly but surely it's more of a retrospective feel as opposed to a current feel so while it did still give me chills it didn't affect me as much as I think it would have back then. Not sure if that makes sense.
There's just something about Ren's voice ... it's like honey. I love this one, and it's fun to be introduced to Fred Again!
Ren has so many talents, but I think it's in these stripped down performances where his uniqueness shines the brightest.

To your point about Ren's singing not necessarily pristine:
I've always thought that you don't have to be a great technical singer to be a great singer. Like Tom Petty and Ozzy, Ren has a unique voice, and he is not afraid to use it. I mean, could you imagine no Tom Petty or Ozzy ( and now, no Ren)? Think of all the great music the world would not have. These singers MADE their creations great without being truly great technical singers. And honestly, would we want it any other way? I think not.
Just my opinion, all are entitled to their own views.
