I'm a fan of using the flip out screen on my Canon, I can compose my shot then use a remote trigger to take it. I find it less laggy than the phone app. It has its limitations as you need to be close enough to see the screen but for those kinda shots it works well.
FYI, if you use the continuous mode in the Imaging Edge Mobile app it does refocus every shot, however you can not setup an interval. I will be submitting a feature request to Sony to add this.
I need ALL the tips! I usually use the edge app from Sony, but it's not the best. Sometimes it changes focus as soon as I hit the shutter button on the app. Wait, your vlogging with that monitor on top of it? I can barely hold my camera still without it 😂 The scenery looks beautiful and the photos turned out great, sorelle!
Haha you dropped the Sorelle bomb on me lol. I'm pretty sure she does the same thing with the app. You're totally right that the app isn't the best. It was better with the older cameras when you could use tap to focus tbh. As for vlogging with the monitor... I don't normally do that but I was just testing it out to see lol.
@@dunnadidit haha I meant it as a compliment! If someone calls you Sorelle it means you've got the selfie thing down! How did you like the monitor for vlogging?
Haha I'll take it! She's a bad ass! Re: monitor - its heavy af. Nice to be able to see myself (I got used to that with the a6400) but kind of cumbersome for sure. Arm day isn't necessary anymore though!
By the way, here’s a good thing never to leave home without - bright coloured gaffer tape. Helps mark the spot especially when it’s past the golden hour lol
@@dunnadidit It's also really handy if you've got cables on the ground in a public area - so you can tape it all down with high visibility gaff tape to avoid any liability issues and damage to your equipment :-)
Great video! I've been "attempting" to do self portraits but have failed. I get that nervous feeling of people watching me but I guess I need to get out of that feeling and start shooting.
I've done so many self portraits in public, (I also do weird costumes and stuff though too) i get two reactions from people...one they legit do not care at all, or two they think its fabulous and either ask to help or if they can take a pic on their phone.
The bracket that you used for flipping the camera into horizontal mode - which exact product is it? Can you or anyone in here tell me? Is it that the hot shoe thing? New to photography here. Appreciate any help, folks ❤️
Hey Kristina! Its called an L-bracket. There are generic ones, and then some made for specific cameras. There should be a link to my gear in the description but you can also search on places like amazon.
I’ve always had this problem :/ There’re so many events where I have pictures of my friends but I’m not in them. And I hate giving ppl my DSLR because I have to set it up so the average person only have to point and shoot but that doesn’t always gives the best results 😒
I hear that, I've been bringing a backup camera set to somewhat auto settings and handing it to a colleague for our business's events and I find the shots work out about 60% of the time. But those aren't necessarily shots of me and he has a good eye to start with.
Not a fan of the imaging app, Why not just you a wireless remote shutter, Biggest disadvantage is framing but with a few test shots it doesn't take too long.
This is amazing! I never knew my camera could connect to my phone! I always have my friend take photos for me and she can never take focused pics so now I feel better knowing I can do them myself!
Damn! Just got the A7c and I'm shocked that they still don't allow af-c for interval shooting. I really hope they make self-portraits easier soon. Even with the app, it focuses on my eye and then I put the phone down and get back in place and the focus is lost. Come on Sony we need this!!
Hmmm i currently have a canon t2i and it takes spectacular photos, but it does not have the modern wireless connections. I wish there was a mode where you can set a timer to take the picture but it auto focuses before it takes it.
Yep I do the manual focus and timer but it's a pain depending on the shot it's not always easy to set ... I wish my camera could focus automatically at the end of the timer before shooting ... I'm that kind of dreamer ( well on a 700D you can only be a dreamer ) 👍🏻
I downloaded the app and still wouldn’t work, for some reason when connecting the Wifi icon disappears on the screen of my phone then I receive an error message from the app.
I really appreciate the theme discussed here, but.. the technique described only works with wifi camera bodies. how about the old fashioned way of spot focusing and getting to really know your lens' DoF? Shallow depth is probably going to be a hit and miss scenario though, unless you carry a spare stand with something to act as your "face" for focusing purposes.
Yeah that was basically what I was doing with the backpack. Put the backpack where I was going to stand, focus, then use a timer. Unfortunately, like you mentioned, it’s quite difficult to get right when shooting shallow DOF.
There is an app for my sony A7II but it feels so bad and every time it disconnects from the camera for some reason it's a pain to get it back on. and I don't think I can shoot RAW when using the phone as a controller, I Want a new Sony camera :O
Well done! I was looking forward for a way to shoot myself alone. I was wondering if you can tell if there’s special App on the phone that i can use to control the camera like you did. Thanks in advance.

Really liking the creativity here - awesome solutions to shooting self portraits!
Thanks so much!
By the way, here’s a good thing never to leave home without - bright coloured gaffer tape. Helps mark the spot especially when it’s past the golden hour lol
SMART! I only have black gaff tape right now but I might have to snag some colored stuff!
@@dunnadidit It's also really handy if you've got cables on the ground in a public area - so you can tape it all down with high visibility gaff tape to avoid any liability issues and damage to your equipment :-)
Thanks you so much for making this video, I really enjoy it!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you liked it!
Being the photographer makes you take beautiful pictures of people, but they couldn't photograph you well
Great video! I've been "attempting" to do self portraits but have failed. I get that nervous feeling of people watching me but I guess I need to get out of that feeling and start shooting.
Yeah, you can either try to push through it or just find spots where you’ll likely be alone
I've done so many self portraits in public, (I also do weird costumes and stuff though too) i get two reactions from people...one they legit do not care at all, or two they think its fabulous and either ask to help or if they can take a pic on their phone.
Onewheel 😍😍😍😍😍😍
✌️Great
Almost time for me to put it away for the winter 😢
Peter's Been thereee 😍
Peter who and where?
The bracket that you used for flipping the camera into horizontal mode - which exact product is it? Can you or anyone in here tell me? Is it that the hot shoe thing? New to photography here. Appreciate any help, folks ❤️
Hey Kristina! Its called an L-bracket. There are generic ones, and then some made for specific cameras. There should be a link to my gear in the description but you can also search on places like amazon.
@@dunnadidit Thank you so much for your response :) I had already found it, hehe :) Great channel, btw. I love your educational vids
thanks. this is great for those who have no friends
I’ve always had this problem :/
There’re so many events where I have pictures of my friends but I’m not in them.
You're awesome! Thanks for all your tutorials!
No YOU'RE awesome! Haha thanks Monica!
TF, was sure you were Peter Mcninon from the thumbnails lmao
Not a fan of the imaging app, Why not just you a wireless remote shutter, Biggest disadvantage is framing but with a few test shots it doesn't take too long.
This was a great example, I've been wondering how to take portrait of my self
Thank you!
Professional photograper
If you can hire one thats great!
You reply all comments that is so sweet
I try! I don’t know that I get all of them anymore but I get as many as I can!
Yep I do the manual focus and timer but it's a pain depending on the shot it's not always easy to set ... I wish my camera could focus automatically at the end of the timer before shooting ... I'm that kind of dreamer ( well on a 700D you can only be a dreamer ) 👍🏻
Thats something I wish sony's had the option to do. Take focus just before the shot instead of at the start of the timer. Seems like a simple idea.
I downloaded the app and still wouldn’t work, for some reason when connecting the Wifi icon disappears on the screen of my phone then I receive an error message from the app.
Haha looks like so much work! Great video dude!
Definitely a decent amount. You get quicker at it for sure tho.
@@dunnadidit i'm probably just jelaous my 9 yo canon doesn't have any of the good stuff :)
And it probably still shoots great photos ;)
Thank you for the tips! 🙏❤🧡💛💚💙💜📷
Glad to hear you liked it!
Sub for two reasons...1- great content 2-Nice man from Edmonton... keep it up
Thanks so much!!
Very useful thing thank you ♥️♥️♥️😃
Glad it was helpful!
@Dunna Dit It …. What is that mount on the bottom of camera ??? When you set up the camera on the tripod shooting in portrait, it separated the camera from tripod about an inch or so. Would love that attachment. Couldn’t find it on your gear website !
It’s called an L bracket! Here’s a link to a generic one that will work on lots of cameras geni.us/e37lVA
thank you for excellent tips. happy holidays to you.
Happy Holidays!!
🙂 thanks for the info, im going to share this & hopefully impliment it in my own videos
Would a bluetooth remote control give the same advantage of taking photos in comparison to holding a phone? Specifically for full-body shots.
Thank You! 💛
My pleasure!
Dope! I have the sony a7ii I use for my fitness shots and connecting to the remote is a pain in the ass sometimes! This was very helpful!
Perfect video, just what I was looking for!
Great work dunna., Pls can you share the name or a link to where I could find such kind of horizontal flip you used to hold the Camera while flipped on the Tripods,, I will really appreciate it. Thanks
Thanks so much! Here the link! geni.us/a73Lbracket
can you please upload your preset settings or maybe make a video on it so we can use it
Cheers, good video!
Using a 50mm 1.8 without flip screen and af not-working properly is gonna be tough, a 2011 low-end DSLR.
