Me as well.... It almost feels like times haven't really been the same since the 90's and early 2000's. The 90's was like a different era in almost everything; sports, movies, TV sitcoms, food, music, the economy, etc. I was a kid at the time, but I remember how things were back then.
Family Matters and Step by Step were moved to CBS Friday night block. In moving the shows, ratings on both shows begin plummeting and both shows got axed.
In early 1997, CBS picked up Family Matters and Step by Step in a $40 million deal to acquire the rights to the programs from ABC. Therefore, since Jaleel was undecided about returning at this point, this clip is from 1996.
It's funny because the other day I was reading episode's of Season 10, if "Family Matter's" would of continued on because writer's had already written up storyline's for that show "had it prevailed into a tenth season". Due to it scrapping after the 9th season though (because of rating's) it never happened. However if it did, I remember reading one episode for that season where Steve is working for an internet company where they hire certain minorities in order to fill there quota and after talking with Carl he is finally given a chance @ the company. With all of that said, fast forward to to the latter year's of the "Wayans Brother's" (from when this Keenen show was aired) and there is an episode of where Shawn experiences the same situation. In other words I'm glad that an episode like that was finally brought to the table because it show's that black's are capable of doing other thing's besides sharpening pencil's, stacking paper's, organizing thing's and etc. Just like how that episode (had it happened) of "Family Matter's" would of been.
I've always liked Jaleel White. My gripe w/ _Family Matters_ is that they had a lot of hit or miss seasons. They kinda lost me around 1994/1995. They were tryna be "hood" and it wasn't working. I understand changing w/ the times, but DAMN! Steve started playing Stefan, Stefan started playing Steve and it was just too much. They switched the dark-skinned mama for the light-skinned mama which was a big mistake. Little Richie was annoying. Oh well. I still get a kick outta certain episodes. Jaleel was pigeonholed and wasn't given a fair shot after _Family Matters_ ended.
