  • TUGS - Sunshine 20 Minute & 15 Minute Version Differences!
    Thanks to FlyingPringle for the idea!
    Many have shown interest in my deleted scenes video, and where I obtained the footage from. Demonstrated in this video, are most of where the alternative shots from the first episode came from. Believe it or not, there are quite several differences between the two, try and see if you can spot them (besides length, of course)! Featured are the 20 minute UK VHS, and a 15 minute international release.
    Music at the end: TUGS Themes - The Bridge Cafe Band | S.A. Music (Sped up)
    I do not own Tugs.

    Imagine being a kid in England in 1989, you just watched the first episode of TUGS on tv and you loved it so you beg your parent to get you a tape of the first episodes, you get it and you feel that the episode is longer and different but you think "i must be remembering it wrong" but years later you learn that you had watched the TV version.

      Man that must of been insane to experience or just yet alone to even think about! It must of been even more jarring to watch both versions of Munition back to back since more changes were made in that episode

    The dialogue between Ten Cents and Izzy Gomez is slightly different from the start: Izzy addresses Ten Cents by his name in the TV version.

    I can't imagine this getting an official DVD release, but if it did, it'd likely be like the Warner Archive or BFI releases, where it'd only be available for fans and such, rather than a mainstream release.
    With that in mind, I think it would work out if the 13 episodes were presented in the 15 minute format, and present the four episodes with 20 minute cuts as bonus features, along with the behind the scenes featurette, as well as a featurette on the museum housing most of the models. Some voice actor interviews would be fun too.

    Amazing! I'm so glad the tv version has been saved - I reckon the series hasn't been aired on TV since the early '90s. Now it will live forever on CZcams.
    Edit: I found out that the only time it aired on TV was its original run from April to June 1989. Such a shame.

  • @MKtheinstrumentalist

    I'm _convinced_ that there's a line from Ten Cents cut from 3:38, Top Hat and Warrior's rebukes come straight out of nowhere, completely unprompted. There was definitely a 30min cut of this.
    Another thing: 7:53. "Seen it with my own eyes!" "Yeah, we _both_ seen it." - no they didn't, not in that cut anyway. We only see Izzy _telling_ them about it, then they head straight off to Zero. Another scene cut there and a pretty big one by the sound of it too...

    • @KnapfordMaster98
      @KnapfordMaster98 Před 6 lety +9

      You're correct about the 7:53 one, although the line is recycled from another scene. The cut scene was retained in the photobook adaption. Zorran and Zak are passing by the Star Dock when they overhear Captain Star talking about getting the Duchess contract. This is why they were visible way in the background shrouded in fog. They go to tell Captain Zero, hence "we've both seen it". This exchange was cut and then recycled when they find out about the Duchess' early arrival. Sounds strange for sure, but Sunshine is not immune to really bizarre editing. The "seen it with my own eyes" footage is actually meant for the FIRST Z Stacks scene, and the shots of Zorran and Zak in the first scene were meant for the second one, hence why Zip was always facing the dock but the other's were not.

    • @Thomasultimate1213
      @Thomasultimate1213 Před 6 lety +3

      The joke at 7:53 is that they don't actually see her, and they got their information from Izzy, Captain Zero would have been upset if Zorran would have just said Izzy told them.

    • @BiffBaffBuffer
      @BiffBaffBuffer Před 6 lety +2

      MKtheinstrumentalist
      I was always under the assumption that Once Zorran & Zak heard the news from Gomez, they headed out to the estuary to find out if Izzy's news was true, ''then'' they would inform their captain.
      ''True''; not everything is shown in either version of the finished episode, but neither ''clearly state'' that the two Z-Stacks go straight to Captain Zero without bothering to look...
      The Book adaptation is the ''only'' thing I know of that states Zak & Zorran go straight to Captain Zero without checking if the Duchess is actually approaching.
      Just my perspective. And though Top hat & Warrior's view that Liner docking is no work for Switchers ''may have'' come from nowhere, at least the dialogue gives of the implication that the Bigger Star tugs have docked a Liner before, hence their belittling of Ten cents there and then.

  • @FireStormDel

    It's interesting see the VHS versions since they feel more complete compared to the TV version where there's the odd audio change like some being added or removed, or scenes that weren't in the VHS version, so it'd be nice to see the VHS version with those restored, the issue being with the stuff that contradicts each other.
    Main example being who gives Izzy the tow in the end, were I to remake this episode, having cut up every shot and got the audio split between music, sound effects, and voice over, I'd go with Warrior realising he forgot to give Izzy the tow, it just works better for a joke sequence.
    But in the end, I feel at best, you'd get about a minute or two extra from rebuilding the episodes to account for both the VHS version being the more complete of the two, just perhaps missing some stuff hence the change in the TV version.
    And it does lead me to wonder if the other episodes that didn't have 20 minute cuts have lost audio and/or video for such a thing, but I doubt we'll find out now.

    • @jareddicarlo7816
      @jareddicarlo7816 Před 2 lety +5

      I can safely say ''I've'' noticed.
      Seeing the cropping difference between both versions of the footage is educating, though I must say The lower fraction of the frame looks a little more appealing to me at times.
      For a time, I assumed The Orangy-Yellow Tint was added in on purpose. I know better now, but I like it. I'm ''used'' to it.
      It gives a feel of colour & vibrance. Especially to the scenes at night.
      I have a similar issue with Series 1-3 of Thomas on video. I favour the ''Original video'' cropping & tint over the Restored versions on Dvd.
      Unfinished or not; I actually 'prefer' the 20 minute versions of those four episodes.
      They may have had to be shortened to meet T.V.S time slot, but is it wrong of me to think that the 20 minute releases could have been intended to be Directors Cuts (that time & finances allowed)?
