"The only advantage I have is that there are 0 consequences if I fling it off the road" - unacceptable! You should have Jane on standby ready to break a few bones if you crash.
To be honest, I like nerdy Mike, that was actually super entertaining to watch. I began to panic when you missed up and I cheered for you silently in my head. You did really well!!! Though I didn't understand a word you said, I was super happy you was having fun though XD
Mike, I have done and watched just enough racing to know exactly how hard it is, so the fact that you're playing that game, like that, while giving a running commentary and still placing like you did is truly impressive. I know this is just a game version, but still you did a really good job. You should be proud. Now I'm starting to wish that they would broadcast actual F1 races from first person perspective. Or, talk about a great use for VR Tech!
As an American, and not an avid racing fan, I don't hear these phrases every day... and they are infinitely fascinating. "It could be goodnight, Vienna".
I am of the opinion that Mike's racing videos are secretly the best thing about outsidexbox. Well, at least until that glorious day when Andy successfully barricades the rest of the ox crew out of the studio long enough for him to do a history video.
Time to start up another sister channel...''Inside Mike Channel'' (Working Title) where the host (Mike) attempts to beat real world racing times. Next up Fernando Alonso's Le Mans 2018 24 hour endurance race.
I think this video makes me really understand why Mike likes Dark Souls so much. This incremental lap by lap improvement is a lot like how you work through a tough boss fight.
Anybody else cringing while Mike was shifting gears. Sometimes the car wanted to be let loose and he restrained it losing about 0,5-0,8 seconds a lap and some other times short shifting like a madman and the car getting bogged down. Anyway it was great seeing Oxbox doing something about F1, congrats on Mike's racing debut and we hope to see more of you
No, you were the only one. Not because you're wrong or anything, I'm just pretty sure you're the only one to understand enough about F1 Racing to know what he was doing wrong lol
R4pt0r64 In a Williams or sauber (given the game really underestimates the sauber team, although that's just from what I've seen from a 2 month old build so that might have changed along with Ferrari's engine still being viewed as pathetic compared to the merc's)
El cactus de la muerte the pace of the teams is based on the first 3 or 4 races of the season(probably 3 as Baku is to unpredictable and centred on engine power) when Sauber weren't that quick.
AOR SmokingPuppy841 That doesn't explain the Ferrari engine being so poor, also by that logic force india would be inferior to sauber, Mclaren would be identical or superior to haas, Ferrari would be better than Mercedes and red bull would be closer to the top two.
El cactus de la muerte but Honda are in for some real punishment last year They thought they'd get away from it leaving Alonso and McLaren, but Horner is worse
This was legitimately intense, Mike explaining everything that's happening was great and I don't even like F1 but his passion and knowledge of it got me invested
I don’t watch this channel much, but this video was really nice to watch. A lot of people claim to be F1 fans but know nothing when they’re playing the game and commentating. You could really hear the F1 fan come out in him as he was playing!
Literally was about to comment this. For those who don't know, the rulebook says you have to be within 107% of the quickest time of the qualify session to quality (otherwise you'll be put down as DNQ-Did Not Quality-unless the Stewards of the Race allow you to start anyway, and play no further part in the race weekend).
Another impressive racing video Mike. I'd watched a previous video where you ran until you could beat the Stig's lap time at the Top Gear track. You figured out the hardest part about racing, being consistent, and that takes practice, lots and lots of practice. Keep up the good work.
not really a racing fan, I have to say that watching all of this was really tense but hey, Mike was enjoying it and Ferrari won in the end! couldn't have gone better :D
Sacrifice the first corner (brake a little earlier) to be in a better position for the second corner. So you can accelerate earlier and carry the speed along the following straight.
KarateKitty 5000 honestly I'd say they're pretty average in terms of difficulty. The most important thing to learn for the game is high speed corners. Heavy braking will come in time and experience, but high speed corners set up overtakes
This is one of my favourite Oxbox videos. I like getting to see you presenters fully nerd out over games. Seems like a decent rig you've got set up there too!
"I could stop there, but if I can shave off a bit more time..." This is how it begins! *3 years, 7 months and 5 days later * "I can get to pole position if I just hit that double apex properly!"
I'm always amazed at how Mike can race and comment at the same time without losing concentration, I can't even chat with someone while on the damned 3 p.m. traffic.
Fantastic video Mike, thoroughly enjoyed it! I was so pleased during you last lap, the tension was huge, and whilst the cinematic shots gave it away, it was so awesome for having them haha. It was almost like your own channel, which was really cool to see aswell! and no I'm not going to make a pun about it =P Also I know its a playstation game, but you should definitely do some wipeout collection videos, I'd love to see the kind of detail in this video applied to that game, I imagine you'd be amazing at it.
After that absolute blinder of a 360 save in his actual race, Mike already warrants a call from F1 in my book, regardless of his performance here. Perhaps Oxbox can enter constructors next year? Luke and Ellen would make a hell of a pit crew...And no one is going to mess with them if Jane is manager. Especially if she has Snak- I mean, Andy, in her pocket too.
The driving's great and all, but Mike really needs to work on his racing driver excuses - "only 90% your fault"? Verstappen clearly swerved multiple times in the braking zone and Hulkenburg was totally out of position and a stray gust of wind pushed you into him! ;)
This is literally how a racing game addiction starts lol. At first it's 2 seconds then it's a second then it's a few tenths then you beat it and move on to your next goal and you're constantly just chasing fractions of a second... Last night I was playing Project Cars 2 for 4 hours trying to beat the Track record at Cadwell park...
Mike - "Now I love Formula One, and I love Formula One games" Me -" Really that's news to me, you never said so, I had no inkling that you even liked cars".
It must of been hard to commentate and drive at the same time. Respect. I think Mike needed to relax a bit. He was doing all the gear changes and every corner at maximum attack. A bit more finesse was needed. But I'm still impressed.
Super fun to see Mike getting super nerdy! Granted, he's nerdy at the best of times, but this actually caused me to be interested in cars for about 30 minutes--and I can't even drive! :D
Out of curiosity, I googled the French Grand Prix qualifying grid. With a 1:32.620, Mike would have qualified 8th, beating everyone not in a Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull and Carlos Sainz.
I was starting to get into manual driving in racing games and I feel like this video was the one that gave me some thoughtfulness about what gearing is necessary to corner and when you need to downshift.
As a lifelong F1/Motorsport fan myself I appreciate the nerdiness in the video. This game does look like a fantastic step forward compared to previous titles. What steering wheel set-up are you playing with? I wish you all the best in your burgeoning racing career and I'd love to hear more about your journey at the EGX meet & greet.
I remember trying to play F1GP4 (PC game about 20 years ago) using a wheel, and I just could not keep the car on the track--no idea how realistic that was, but it was certainly discouraging when I'd been able to lap consistently seconds faster than the opposition using mouse and keyboard with the earlier game F1GP.
Aaaw he'll sleep well tonight. I'll be honest i understood maybe thirty percent of what he said but, there's something zen about the footage and Mike's voice over....like zoning off at a lecture.
"The only advantage I have is that there are 0 consequences if I fling it off the road" - unacceptable! You should have Jane on standby ready to break a few bones if you crash.
That would be a great motivation actually
Ideally, she also needs to be pulling him sideways at 4-5G going round the corners if we want this to be as realistic as possible. :)
Ah, Jane and her rounders bat (we are English after all) are a wonderful but terrifying motivator...
Or set him on fire.
I absolutely love these all too rare times that Mike gets to display his motor racing love on Oxbox.
We genuinely need more of this sort of content.
As a F1 fan I'd watch Mike do a playthrough of an entire F1 career mode season
Benjamin Cook seconded
Only if he has the actual race on a second screen and reacts in real time to what's going on!
Also only if Jane and Andy take the place of the commentators and attempt to explain to us what is happening 😂
In williams, please or sauber
Mike is an Aaraav wannabe
To be honest, I like nerdy Mike, that was actually super entertaining to watch. I began to panic when you missed up and I cheered for you silently in my head. You did really well!!! Though I didn't understand a word you said, I was super happy you was having fun though XD

This must be the most serious I've ever heard Mike when commenting during gameplay.
Adam McDDcM Technically he's a technician while sponsored besides his technology's lack. Put Mike in a real Rig!
Dom Locke and Jane does a quantum physics vid
Quite!
Good job Mike on being able to race and give commentary on himself.
Why arent you in your racing suit?? Call this a simulation!?
According to feedback, driving is quite realistic this year
Gotta make sure to be sweaty for added realism
Need to be wearing a helmet and hairnet as well.
He has traction controle to 😑
I love the complete mismatch of Hitman Mike vs Racing Mike.
Matt Ball yea! let's have andy over there for contrast!
Not a great hitman, but a great getaway driver.
@@andrewsherman1797 If you always botch the hits, you learn to get away fast.
Yes I too like *looks at smudged writing on hand* bars
Dapper Horus yes, don't you just love the way they...
Go
Time to start up another sister channel...''Inside Mike Channel'' (Working Title) where the host (Mike) attempts to beat real world racing times. Next up Fernando Alonso's Le Mans 2018 24 hour endurance race.
Mike's Channel? Everyone has made that pun I presume.
A.k.a. "Mike drop"
That video was so entertaining, I want more like that
Brendan Mc it isn't Fernando Alonso's race.He may have won,but the event is so much more than one driver.
AOR SmokingPuppy841 yeah part of a team but Alonso was enough to name.
1 thing right then 8 things wrong is basically how the entirety of Oxbox's letsplays go.
I think this video makes me really understand why Mike likes Dark Souls so much. This incremental lap by lap improvement is a lot like how you work through a tough boss fight.
That.. that actually makes a lot of sense.
Shades of Jeremy Clarkson going around the Nurburgring
...hopefully without Jane appearing at the end and saying she could do a faster time in a van
Sometimes, listening to Mike talk racing is akin to listening to music in a language you don't speak.
Anybody else cringing while Mike was shifting gears. Sometimes the car wanted to be let loose and he restrained it losing about 0,5-0,8 seconds a lap and some other times short shifting like a madman and the car getting bogged down. No, you were the only one. Not because you're wrong or anything, I'm just pretty sure you're the only one to understand enough about F1 Racing to know what he was doing wrong lol
Seeing Mike doing what he love most. This made my day.
As a fellow racing driver it’s great to see mike showing all of CZcams what he can do. Hopefully see you on track sometime!
watching this video reminded me how much I love this sport. Its great to see your passion for this. best of luck in your real life racing mate
MIKE GETTING TO DO A CAR VIDEO! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
Now everyone has to do it.
On full wets.
With no assists. C:
R4pt0r64 In a Williams or sauber (given the game really underestimates the sauber team, although that's just from what I've seen from a 2 month old build so that might have changed along with Ferrari's engine still being viewed as pathetic compared to the merc's)

Cheers to Mike, for being the only OX member as nerdy about motorsports as some of us.
That's a really nice profile picture
Almost as much fun as watching Mike fling an actual car off the road (and, thankfully, not get hurt).
Actually laughed out loud at "come on Max, how about an engine failure?"! (Christian Horner, however, is not amused by this)
Robb Ramirez Renault were also not amused by this they can't wait to stop being shit on
El cactus de la muerte but Honda are in for some real punishment last year
They thought they'd get away from it leaving Alonso and McLaren, but Horner is worse
This is why Mike is awesome. I did not understand a word, but I am really interested in racing now.
This was legitimately intense, Mike explaining everything that's happening was great and I don't even like F1 but his passion and knowledge of it got me invested
Mike is the Stig confirmed
it makes more sense than I want to think about
I don’t watch this channel much, but this video was really nice to watch. A lot of people claim to be F1 fans but know nothing when they’re playing the game and commentating. You could really hear the F1 fan come out in him as he was playing!
The Q1 107% time was 1:37.659 for the French GP so that's really the time to beat to be on the grid at all. (Sorry, F1 nitpicking.)
You’d better believe I was going to fall back on that technicality if I was massively off the pace. 😂
You know who knows that? Life. Life does.
The F1 team huh.
R4pt0r64 any F1 fan knows that
AOR SmokingPuppy841 that was a joke. Never heard of Life? Oo
Mike, your mid race commentary really brought this video to the CZcams winners circle. Love it!
Another impressive racing video Mike. I'd watched a previous video where you ran until you could beat the Stig's lap time at the Top Gear track. You figured out the hardest part about racing, being consistent, and that takes practice, lots and lots of practice. Keep up the good work.
Mike, how dare you not end this video by saying "Thanks Verstappen by!" :D
this was genuinely a bit frightening to watch, imagining actually driving it. suddenly i think i understand why people love F1.
aves rex
No too late to hop on the fanbase mate!
Good innit? 😉
Ah that was just a wildly entertaining video. Gosh darn Mike you might've just made me want to get into racing xD
not really a racing fan, I have to say that watching all of this was really tense
but hey, Mike was enjoying it and Ferrari won in the end!
couldn't have gone better :D
I really enjoyed this! Ever thought about streaming f1, Mike? I'd happily watch you try and get into Q2 for other tracks
Sacrifice the first corner (brake a little earlier) to be in a better position for the second corner. So you can accelerate earlier and carry the speed along the following straight.
Mike, I'm gonna say this with 100% honesty. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OF ALL TIME! So cool!
Going "full Mike" usually means chaos and fire, but today, in this exact situation, it meant a relatively calm and well executed racing line.
The F1 games are hard ! Massive respect Mike , you race on
KarateKitty 5000 honestly I'd say they're pretty average in terms of difficulty. The most important thing to learn for the game is high speed corners. Heavy braking will come in time and experience, but high speed corners set up overtakes
I love watching people who are "Nerding" about the stuff they like. You guys from the OX team are all amazing.
"Being chased" / "Being chaste"
Oh my god Mike that's the funniest non sequitur I've ever heard.
This is one of my favourite Oxbox videos. I like getting to see you presenters fully nerd out over games.
Seems like a decent rig you've got set up there too!
I picked up F1 2017 on sale on XBOX One X recently. It looks and feels incredible. 2018 is going to be added to the collection soon
Love how the chair creaks as he throws himself into the corners XD
Mike racing games aren't really my thing but you made this genuinely interesting. good job!

I don't even like racing nor racing games but you managed to make this exciting. Well done Mike!
I genuinely enjoy watching Mike in his element here. Racing games aren't my thing but I wish anything was as much my thing as they are for Mike
I have no interest in Formula 1. I have no interest in Formula 1 games. I really enjoyed this vid! Good work sir

Great video Mike! Never had any interest in racing games but this format was very entertaining! Hope to see more, maybe in other games and vehicles!
Whenever I get behind the wheel of an F1 car it goes all mike...and by that I mean everything explodes.
Great content mike, good F1 knowledge, you really inspire me
As much as I believe in Team OX, their videos have proven that they still have a long way to go before F1 :P
As someone who has zero knowledge on F1, this is so boring and interesting at the same time. I think I would watch Mike doing this week in week out.
well since Mike beat the stig's time in one of their early videos I believe that racing as f1 driver is nothing for him so GO MIKE!
If you tilt your head, you're in the zone. Great bid man 👍
Haha thanks! I was pulling some pretty weird concentration faces too. 😂
Loved this! Would definitely watch more racing content/commentary from Mike!
Well done Mikey! The most enjoyment I've had watching F1 since Schumi left Ferrari!
This is literally how a racing game addiction starts lol. This is the first time ever that I've enjoyed watching F1. Good job, Mike!
Damn mike. Your racing lines are tight. The real life driving has been good training for your virtual career.
Love how even while racing your brain decided to clear up any confusion between being "chased" or "chaste"
Even as someone who's not a racing/racing games fan, I really enjoyed this.
Mike - "Now I love Formula One, and I love Formula One games"
Me -" Really that's news to me, you never said so, I had no inkling that you even liked cars".

that first lap was not too bad. Color me impressed, Mike!
I haven't been this interested in a racing game since ps1. Good video.
With Alonso retiring at the end of this season, there's a spot available at McLaren...
I was starting to get into manual driving in racing games and I feel like this video was the one that gave me some thoughtfulness about what gearing is necessary to corner and when you need to downshift.
10:45 You can tell Mike is taking this really seriously when the concentration face comes into full effect.
Fantastic video, more of this please.
I love when Mike gets to play games like these
I remember trying to play F1GP4 (PC game about 20 years ago) using a wheel, and I just could not keep the car on the track--no idea how realistic that was, but it was certainly discouraging when I'd been able to lap consistently seconds faster than the opposition using mouse and keyboard with the earlier game F1GP.
I need way more content like this! I love it! I could watch Racer Mike all day! xD
Well done. Glad to see the "Cars & Dark Souls" guy is much better at cars than he is at Dark Souls.
As much as a cringed watching him trying to shift to 9th and 10th and his driving was bad. I somehow really enjoyed this!!!
4:52 Mike is the only madman daring to drive at 199+ mph (or 320 km/h if you swing that way) one-handed without batting an eye
20:04 I've never heard Mike sound this delighted
I would like te see Mike race in real life.
You do know he's racing IRL as well right?
I like how you one hand the steering wheel like a boss haha! I would be lost without the green guide line
Amazing work Mike, now bring that to the real track and win some races. You can do it Mike.
totally late to the party, but GAHHH the stress when chasing those last few tenths... oh man. GG, Mike!
Mike You could Definitely be a Racer or a Commentator You Have a Great voice for it!!! This was Fun Thank you OX !!!!!!! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ♡♡♡
I need a series where Mike teaches Jane the destroyer to drive in circuit races
"You get 1 thing right, and then 8 different things wrong". I finally have the perfect tagline for my time at university.
Bored & Bearded that the tagline for my life
Patience and precision? Mike, do you realize this is how Andy feels playing stealth games?
Man that sounds interesting! wish I had a clue of what a hell Mike is talking about, but it was a great video though, nice gloves by the way.
Aaaw he'll sleep well tonight.
I'll be honest i understood maybe thirty percent of what he said but, there's something zen about the footage and Mike's voice over....like zoning off at a lecture.
jesus christ I was holding my breath the entire time, congrats XD that was tense
