- Peeling off the wrap on my STI ruined the paint! Literally peeled the paint off with it... This is what happens when the dealership cheaply repairs a bumper without telling you!

Pro Tip: when removing vinyl always heat the vinyl first with a torch or heat gun to help break down the adhesive layer and peel more easily. I work with vinyl a ton and when just ripping it off without heating two major issues can occur. 1.) It can leave behind the adhesive layer which is a pain removing, or 2.) It will peel up whatever is underneath it. I’ve even seen vinyl peel up bondo because of how how well the vinyl adhered to the surface.

@@chris_borges I work in a race car shop, a lot of what we do is work on Carbon fiber. Areas of the car that we’ll cover in the wrap we batch with fiberglass and putty, and sometimes the top layer won’t adhere well and the vinyl just peels it off. It’s pretty crazy how good the wrap sticks.
Korkay Wax is the best stuff I’ve ever used on the vinyl stuff. We use it at the track to get everything off. We’ll give the whole car a good wipe down first with a detail spray and then any extra rubber, dirt, or bugs left come out with the korkay wax. It’s in a white bottle with a blue label. I would definitely use that as a base layer on the vinyl, then go ontop of it with a harder wax as a sealer/protectant. I would highly recommend Fusso Soft99 Wax. It’s pretty expensive about $35 for the container and it ships from Japan, but it work’s amazing. I use it on my WRX that’s my daily and it is a very good wax with a hard finish. It’s really good at preventing stuff like tree sap, bug guts, bird poop, etc., from penetrating the wax and damaging the paint.
@@chris_borges Also if you do have any adhesive left over on the paint use a very watered down acetone solution to remove it without harming the paint or clear coat. I’d use a 10:1 solution, 10 parts water to 1 part acetone. Slowly increase the acetone content if it’s not removing the adhesive.

It doesnt look like youre using a heat gun when you are pealing the wrap. The sun does a good job baking the wrap but nothing like a heat gun. Would make peeling and mitigating damage a lot easier.
First thing I was thinking that adhesive is extremely strong & rigid when not heated to high temp not surprised unfortunate the paint came off 🤯

I'm surprised there's no pop clips for the side skirts. My rear Varis bumper has them and I raved about how professionally finished that bumper was made. I would've expected the same for all their pieces. Still, the side skirts are going to look so nice when the car is done.

That paint that came off of the rear bumper looks like the blended a spot into the bumper. 3M those side skirts instead of drilling holes where you can. Try to drill only where it can not be seen.

just so yk you’re car should have tpms sensors to tell you what psi your tires are at unless you didn’t get them installed but you’d have a dash light on for it

Hey Chris, got a question aside from the vinyl vid. I recently got my wife an sti and it came with a Cobb sf intake. Thinking of switching for the redline intake since it has the carbon fiber piece which she kind of wants. Which one would u choose sf or redline?
Not sure to be honest bro! I don’t have any experience with either on the STI. I’d search up some videos to compare the two and how they sound.

I tell people this shit all the time. Wapping is great for cars with clapped paint, but I would just buy a car in the color I want. When you remove wrap, even if it's installed fucking perfectly it can still ruin your paint when you take it off.

You are suppose to use a heat gun to soften it when you take it off. You can't just cold remove a wrap. Watch some videos on it. I know because I'm on my 3rd wrap doing it myself and
I did the same thing the first time.
I assumed the sun did a good job baking it already. 😭
@@chris_borges The heat gun will make the glue release and it will peel off very easy. The sun helps, but you need to pull very slowly in small pieces, working back and forth heating it. Next time! Looking forward to seeing what the new color is!

2 things: why not just hook out a air hose to your tank in the trunk to use to fill your tires and did you guys even use heat on the rear bumper to take it off … when you heat it its more gentle on the paint
