listening in 2022 now, this album never gets old, even at 2050 it still sound fresh.
In an interview, AR Rahman is remembered to have said,
" I took lot of pain to compose the songs of Kangalal Kaidhu Sei " but the movie crashed in Box office ".
As an avid lover of music , I find the songs of this movie with its deployment of background instruments etc present rare innovations on the part of ARR. He is a rare genius and at par with Beethoven, Mozart et al. Dedication & involvement + hardwork alone can produce such geniuses in history. Proud of ARR.

Before KKS, ARR turned down _Kadal Pookal_ and _Eera Nilam_ because of Bharathiraja's nepotism in trying his best to somehow promote his son Manoj, for whom ARR already scored music in _Taj Mahal._ This act in which BR tried to repeatedly promote his son became a major black mark on his name and became a contributing factor to the failure of KKS.
@@arunachalam8169 Actually, there's no reason at all for KKS to fail. It had a good story and talented new actors. Both Vaseegaran and Priyamani were models who underwent screen tests before getting selected. The script was written by the legendary novelist Sujatha. ARR knew that if there was a chance he could revive the greatest filmmaker in Tamil cinema, it was only through KKS. He knew that it was a good movie from the moment he commited himself to it - and he made a good decision. Mind you... the film deserved every effort that ARR gave for it. It's a cult classic and has already reached many sensible people and will surely continue to reach more such sensible people for at least 3-5 more generations, whether you like it or not.

ARR composed many heroine introduction songs: "Poo pookum osai", "Konjum Mynakale", etc. But nothing is like "Aaha Thamizamma".

Hey, did you know that Mani Ratnam had a chance to set things right for Priyamani and utterly failed to do so? He didn't even recognise the gem of an actress that Priyamani is! He cast her in a very trivial role in a nonsensical movie. With this, Priyamani was never to act in any Tamil movie ever again for an entire decade, and the Tamil audience forgot her. I may have a lot of respect for Mani Ratnam... but I'll never forgive him for his act of landing Priyamani into a ditch.
I don't know whether Gautham Vasudev Menon watched _Kangalal Kaidhu Sei_ back in 2004. But I wish that he had saved her from _Adhu Oru Kanaa Kaalam_ and paired her with Madhavan in a good movie. If Priyamani had given two consecutive hits (with that Madhavan movie and with _Paruthiveeran)_ then she would have never appeared in her worst movies (i.e., _Thotta_ and _Aarumugam)._ Her career would have taken a radically different turn.
GVM could have also similarly saved Vaseegaran (the male lead actor of _Kangalal Kaidhu Sei)_ through a masterpiece film with an appropriate actress. Instead, Vaseegaran's 2nd movie was so ridiculous (it was directed by some mediocre) that it knocked him out of the film industry.

@@rahilaa.s5544 I'll add that *no* professional film critic will say that KKS is Bharathiraja's worst movie. Now, Bharathiraja's worst movie is either _Eera Nilam (2003), Annakodi (2013)_ or Rajinikanth-starrer _Kodi Parakkuthu (1988)._ These three films are downright ridiculous.
In the 2000s, ARR turned down two consecutive BR movies (including _Eera Nilam)._ But if after this ARR not only agreed for KKS, but also gave his best songs for it, then there is meaning in ARR's decision and effort. KKS has some logic in it.
