I remember watching this movie with my older sister she was 24 and I was 8 she took care of me for most of my life. This theme basically spoke the feelings of being around her, from feeling safe happy and hopeful. My parents passed away when I was 4 months old and her at 16 took on the role of a mom for me she made sure I was very well attended, she provided my every needs growing up, taught me how to read and write how to take care of myself basically everything. She’s the strongest person I know. I remember going to places with her and people asking if I was her son and she would always say yes smiling at me and now as an adult I appreciate that because I know to her I wasn’t a burden and I’ll always be thankful for her and if I ever need to take care of her in the future I would gladly do it.

I have autism myself and this film is really personal to me. While every autistic person, including Raymond and I, are very different from one another, there were some similarities we could both relate to. The way Raymond remembers little details, like things he hears on the radio or stuff he sees on tv (like "97X, Bam, the future of Rock N Roll" and the "Who's on First" video by Abbott and Costello), is a little bit similar to how I remember a lot of stuff I see in both movies and tv shows (and their behind the scenes features), and what I hear on the radio. The part where Raymond does not like to be touched is how I don't like it when I am touched, though there are sometimes exceptions (handshakes and high-fives are definitely exceptions).
The part where Raymond hits himself when he is touched, is like sorta how I was when I was little, when I used to hit, kick, and bite other people back when they were touching me. I kept getting sent home alot. It was a fucking nightmare. Fortunately, I have matured far away years ago. And the part where Raymond freaks out from the smoke alarm, is like how I was very sensitive to loud noises when I was younger. For example, if I was at a baseball stadium during a game, if it was loud (AND IT ALWAYS WAS), there is only one thing I would always want to do there: leave, because it was so loud, my head and ears was hurting and I was crying most of the time. I am a lot better about it now, but back then I just hated that stadium.
I think that Rain Man has a very well done portrayal of Autism, both in terms of story and the wonderful performance of Graduate and Kramer v Kramer alum Dustin Hoffman, who deserved the Oscar he got from this movie. I almost cried.
And this music by Hans Zimmer, who is a composer I really love for Rain Man, Gladiator, Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman (and a little bit of the snyder cut of Justice League), Hannibal, Pirates of the Caribbean, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Crimson Tide, Interstellar, Inception, Dunkirk, Wonder Woman 1984, The Lion King, Days of Thunder, Top Gun Maverick, Mission Impossible 2, Black Hawk Down, Thelma and Louise, and No Time to Die 007.
And there's Tom Cruise, of course, who I have always loved seeing on screen since I first saw him as Ethan Hunt in the original Mission Impossible, and it's sequels. I also love him in Days of Thunder, Top Gun 1 and Maverick, Jack Reacher 1 and Never go Back, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Risky Business, Edge of Tomorrow, and A Few Good Men. I'll watch him in anything. His stunts are so bad ass.

What this movie has that other movies don't are two simple things. 1) It has substance. By this I mean that there is something more behind the plot. It can be a theme, a moral, or an idea. 2) It brings out the substance elegantly. While many other movies attempt to force their so called substance out this one doesn't. Therefore this message does not become superficial. It is elegantly executed.
Therefore this movie is real unlike the superficial and shallow films that flood the industry.

So my older brother, who taught me about animal mating, chicken care, basic english and how to beat mario games turned out to be my rain man. As time progressed, my mind surpassed him in capacity but not in heart, as his was always dealing with his condition, and mine dealing with the sense of injustice of having such a handicapped brother. His heart only grew sadness out of the few times he realized his mental conditions, whereas I only grew hatred out of the byproduct of having a mentally diseased brother. At the end he got the ritalin, I got this movie to cope with our acceptance in order to have a better saturday afternoon with cartoons and toys.

TBH, Tom Cruise should've won the Best Actor Oscar instead of Hoffman. He wasn't even nominated which was absolutely insane. While Hoffman was excellent, Cruise was the soul of the film. Seeing him go from a guy who could less about his autistic brother to one who ripped up a check for $200,000 so that he could be with him 24/7 was an incredible transformation and Cruise nailed that role perfectly.
