How to fix high CPU usage in MSI Center due to CC_Engine_X64.exe file
Are you finding your CPU overheating or tasks using more CPU resources than usual?
It might be caused by MSI Center and more specifically the task called CC_engine_x64.exe
This is part of the MSI Center program and has been known to raise CPU temps and cause lag and spikes in games due to poor programming.
Luckily this file can be replaced with a known good working one with relative ease.
We are also hosting one of the known good versions of the file on our discord
/ discord
You might be able to fix this problem by simply upgrading or updating the MSI Center app from either the Microsoft Store here
apps.microsoft.com/store/deta...
Or directly from MSI here
www.msi.com/Landing/MSI-Center
Replacing the file reduces CPU overhead from around 10% to around 1% or less!
This will in most instances drop CPU temps by 5-10 degrees Celsius.

True, but I can't buy from the link. My bank won't allow any overseas purchases without me going to my bank, which is almost 50 miles one-way and personally authorizing it.
Hey thanks for the heads up! I had actually noticed something baffling, whenever I opened MSI Center I saw an instant 10 degree DROP in CPU temp (using a monitoring overlay). Close MSI Center and temp instantly RISES about 10 degrees. This behaviour was consistent but really strange. Then I came across this posting, went into Task manager and there it was: CC_engine_x64.exe was using >8% of my CPU when MSI Center was closed. Closing CC_engine instantly dropped CPU temp by about 10 degrees, this was the culprit!
Updated MSI Center from Microsoft store and seems fixed. 10 degrees is a lot when heavy gaming was getting the CPU close to 70 degrees with a toasty R5800X3D which is why I was monitoring this and trying various cooling solutions. Thanks again and a sub from me.
Thanks for the sub
Thanks for the tip, Mike...
I have not run into this exact problem yet, but now I know to look out for it if my system seems to be acting sluggish or slow.
As for the MSI Center, it's a good program, but does it reset all of your preferences every time there is a program update or an update to the Mystic Light module?
Perhaps it's just me and my install, but I wish MSI Center would remember my configuration after any kind of update.
mine usually updates in the background and the settings remain the same. Sometimes if the msi center crashes at boot the fans go a bit nuts, but other than that it seems fine update wise
Great video thanks Mike
You bet
@@mikesunboxing yes down William Hill!
@@PaulBakewellLol!
Thank you for your video Mike.l don’t use any software to check my pc usage.l have no problem using it as l do.l’m not a technical person 👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
thanks Colin
Crazy how software updates can make so much difference to the balance of the pc! How many ppl wud simply accept the update snd not check the impact, i know i wouldnt! Thanks for explaining the steps / reasoning Mike and Kath, will check dters pc as not certain if ever update msi centre on it 🙄 🤔🐈👍
this issue is more noticeable on AM5 and 13th gen as the spikes will ramp up the fans, AM4 and older intel should soak it up
Thats good to know, thanks Mike🐈👍
I don't use MSI Center. but did use the Pc all day long. CPU is at 33C right now. max was 36C.
Mike's Special Investigation (MSI) is Worthy of a Support comment. Like & a share 🙂
nice low temps there
@@mikesunboxing Winter is coming 🥶
have you actually noticed anything about the new AI feature? I just dont know at all about using msi center and am about to deinstall it all together
never use the MSI AI add on, it is awful
So when it reads for example 100% usage while in game does it mean its actually at 100% or just a msi center false read because in the built in nvidia performance statistics the cpu usage shows alot lower like 60-70% while in game
not sure they might be getting different reading from a core or average of cores
@@mikesunboxing will I solve the problem by just deleting msi center, I mean, do I really need it?
Still using dragon, I haven't tried Center since. I only use dragon for Argb.✌
i prefer the simple nature of msi center or dragon center but they are very alike and msi center in general has slightly less system impact than the default install of dragon center
@@mikesunboxing Interesting point, since going 32GB ram, I can't say I take much notice, in icon tray, it appears to be using 58mb but no CPU. After a 3rd gen I7 system impact is now out of site/mind however I don't do much other than game/YT/NetF👍
I had a similar issue with Razer software (synapse I think). Just uninstalled it and forgot about it.
they all have a slight overhead, but sometimes it goes way over the expected range
Mike, my MSI center says there's no Internet to login AFTER it just downloaded all its apps ... 🤔
yes it is a common bug i think. funny app at times
Come on MSI.......do better !
yeah a bit of quality control would work wonders
Get after them Bob !!!!. You know the old saying...if it works you can probably still fix it. 😄 Take care everyone. Be kind. Cheers
Thanks, Mike! I was wondering about that… it did seem to be using more resources when doing almost nothing! All fixed now. Awesome!
glad it helped 🙂@@skystalker7700
Hi, Mike. I fix high CPU usage by not installing apps like MSI Canter. 😊
lol that will do it!
Can’t even get MSI Centre to open now after the last update
sorry to hear that, try this it might help.
CPU suddenly spikes to 100% whenever I enable USB Boost or Storage Boost on MSI Center!
i have not used either of those but i will investigate
My msi center doesn’t work I switched for a new ssd and I can’t install msi center but if I switch for a old ssd I use the msi center why?
not sure that is odd
have you tried using the msi center cleaning tool?
Theres a new issue instead now even with the latest MSI Center as of this comment. I was running just fine for a while. Maybe updated MSI Center a few weeks ago might of still been May. Randomly out of nowhere computer screens start flashing black and going all kinds of crazy. Open up Task Manager and its using 100% of the memory to the point of PC blue screening as I try to end the task. I just uninstalled it altogether. Hopefully my MPG board keeps the color I set for the Dragon Logo lol.
That is strange I will be keeping an eye on that
after you uninstalled the msi center, did you can still set fan profile? i use center just for argb and set the fan curve, but the cc engine's ram usage is suck
Can’t open user scenario on msi center 2.0.36 version. On my laptop. Anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix that. Ty
some devices don't support it
@@mikesunboxing it’s just that version
its silent fan mode is terrible i have 6 top of the range quiet noctuas and msi on silent mode sounds like my fans are at half speed. i just use msi for my rgb now and it doesnt open on startup
i never use the built in profiles and create my own fan profiles to suit my fans and my ears :-)
@@mikesunboxing i watched a video of yours a few weeks ago about having mixed results with the lga cpu bracket, my pc was always running hot even with the bracket idle at 30 to 45 so what i did was reset windows with a fresh install but saving my files, when that was up and running i got rid of all the bloat ware and killed all updating apps my temperature while idle now between 19 and22 and when i have five tabs open its still in its early 20s, i have tested my temps with several other applications and its the same, maybe give the bracket another go. peace
Thanks for the info @@Blobby192
I have msi center afterburner tempture good
“Msicenter.exe is abnormal” that’s error
lol is that a question or a statement
The usage 11% yesterday
hope this fixes it
I was thinking of an update but MSI centre wouldn't open lmao - Mine just started, one day after I put an aggressive fan curve om my CPU for extra GPU cooling when gaming, CPU idles 34-36 now max ramps fans at 38. MSI causes 44 degs😢😒. My issue is MSI.centralServer.👍✌
