But he was underground anyway. He’s probably my favorite Hip Hop rapper, even over Eazy E in my opinion. E made it mainstream popular. Also it was rare in those days to have a Blood out there actually rapping. Most didn’t mess with him, because they knew he was the real deal. Always mentioned his hood in every song.
I'm even going one step further and go so far as claiming DJ Quik as the greatest all around artist in Hip-Hop. That's not even a argument to be made, that is just facts. But DJ Quik is seriously on that Prince level of musicianship in the entire world of popular music. And don't you just see the similarities. Both staying true to their Home, Prince Minneapolis and DJ Quik Compton. He mastered the Production part of Hip-Hop with incorporating instruments on that next level. He is EASILY my favourite MC of all time. My life Energy is running high when I have DJ Quik and Prince in heavy rotation.
